Magical express, since not leaving until the next day??

Hi Everyone, I'm new on here. I'm planning my second Disney trip for September (already have all the reservations, just doing the fun part of the planning). :)
My question is, our flight leaves the day after our trip at Disney. We plan on staying at the Hyatt, right at the airport our last night, (the flight was over $100 cheaper pp to wait 1 extra day, so we figured no biggie). well my question is, how will that work as far as the magical express goes. Will we still be able to get back to the airport on it, even with our flight not leaving until the next day? Do we have to give our flight info? We haven't been in 2 years so I really don't remember how it all worked. Will they let us carry our own baggage and board the bus?
TIA everyone, I'm trying to get all details squared away ASAP so I can relax and breathe easy :-)

Yes, you can use DME on the day you check out from your WDW resort. The easiest thing is to find a flight that leaves 3 hours after the time you want to take DME to the airport. Give the DME folks that flight info. For example, if you want to leave for MCO and the Hyatt at 4pm, give them a flight that leaves at 7pm. They will then have you on a bus that leave around 4pm from your resort.

Have a great time.

Disney doesn't have any spies at the airport to verify that you actually get on a plane after they drive you there. As noted above, tell them you are flying out at 11 PM if you like and you'll get an approximate 8 PM pickup time. Doesn't matter what airline/flight number you give them.

Yes, we've done this on two trips. As others have said, pick a flight time that is three hours after you want to leave on a non-participating airline. You need to be sure that DME doesn't try to check your baggage through on a plane you aren't actually on. Get your own luggage off the bus (and kindly tip your driver).

:confused3 DME has nothing to do with luggage getting checked. That's RAC.

OP...

As others have indicated, you're fine. As far as a procedure...
1) Give DME a flight time 3 hours later than when you want to leave WDW. They will tell you when to be at the DME pickup.
2) 15 minutes before the appropriate time, be at the DME pickup location with ALL your luggage (checked and unchecked).
3) Give the larger luggage pieces to the driver to stow under the bus.
4) Get on the bus & ride to the airport
5) At the airport, let the driver pull your bags from under the bus and give them to you... tip the driver
6) Walk through the airport to the Hyatt with all your luggage.

Can we do this same type of thing upon arrival? Our reservations start on Sunday but I ended up getting an evening flight on Saturday night for cheaper.

My plan was not to put the DME tags on our bags and just get them at the airport ourselves. Get a room at an airport hotel for Saturday night with shuttle service to/from the airport. Sunday morning we would get up and take the shuttle back to the airport and take DME to our resort.

Can I just pick a flight that gets in around the time we want to head to Disney since we will be getting our luggage ourselves?

Yep...exactly the same thing.

:welcome:

I just wanted to add that you can save lots of $$ at the Hyatt by buying a "Stay Certificate" from Hyatt.com. It's basically prepaying your 1 nt (or 2nt) stay and includes all taxes. You buy the certificate online and book using the Ph # listed in their 'terms & conditions' section, not regular online booking.

At check in you simply hand over the cert and you're done.

The Hyatt MCO is at Choice level so it's $145 + $6 s/h. Remember tax is 12.5%. So this is even cheaper than the senior rate.

If you're a little more daring, it's easy to spot the Hyatt on Hotwire.com but of course it's never a guarantee. We have gotten it on Hotwire about 6x for $54-79 + tax.

Another website I've used to get Hyatt at less than AAA rate is at www.lastminutetravel.com They don't give the name of the hotel but show many photos. Anyone who has stayed at the Hyatt before would easily recognize those photos. We got it for the nt before our Sept cruise for just $113 + tax. This is a more reliable than Hotwire to me, since they show the photos.

If you want help with the non-direct booking methods, let me know & I can help you. :goodvibes
We LOVE the Hyatt but don't love their prices!

ruadisneyfan2 thats some helpful information for the Hyatt. I would love it if we could get a room there for the night of Oct 15th, it would be so much easier than taking a shuttle back and forth to an airport area hotel.

I had even considered seeing if I coudl get a room at a value or even a moderate with a discount or something for that first night, but I figured it would be a pain to move our stuff at Disney.

I tried to look on Hotwire and LMT but couldn't tell if it was one of them. There was one I thought might be it, but it was $158.

I use priceline a lot for hotels when we travel so that was I was going to do for this night. I can usually get an airport area hotel (3*) for $40 or so in Richmond and was hoping to get a similar deal down there. But I would be willing to pay a bit more even $100 or so for the convenience of staying in the airport.

I checked Oct 15 on LMT. I enter MCO to start my search. On the next page, I check "airport area" only. then sort results by 'star rating'.
The top of the list is a 4* for $111. Click on "photos." There should be 5 thumbnails:
1. 1 bed in hotel room
2. 2 beds in hotel room (very easy to recognize as Hyatt for past guests.)
3. pool with green lounge chairs and fountains shooting out of wall into pool. This is def the Hyatt's roof top pool. My kids loved it!
4. lobby area/check in desk. also easily recognizable to past guests.
5. one of their restaurants.

It states it's 3.84 miles to airport but I think if they said 0.0 miles, it would be a dead giveaway. ;)

Right now, it's $111.48 + $17.28 taxes for a total of $128.76.

The Hyatt is not so easy. For our cruise in March, it never did become available for our date. It either shows or doesn't, and there's no way to make it appear.
Search MCO for your destination. Enter 2 adults, 2 kids regardless of the # in your party. Hyatt is the only 4* in the MCO region with a trip advisor rating of 4.5 out of 5 green circles and recommended in 95 % of Hotwire customer reviews. To see the Tripadvisor rating, click on the red continue button as if you're buying that hotel. The next page will show an area map. Just scroll down past the map and you'll see the little owl logo and that hotel's TA rating. This part is very important. The only other 4* in the MCO area is the Renaissance by Marriott and its TA rating is 4.0/5.

I've never gotten the Hyatt more than 1 month in advance. Once, it didn't show up until 1 week prior. I always book a cancellable reservation as a back up. I booked through LMT for our Sept cruise and they do charge a $25 cancellation fee if >7 days prior so Hotwire will have to beat LMT's price by more than $25 for me to switch.

If you want to "see" what the Hyatt looks like right now, search for this Sunday, July 17. 2ad/2ch. Right now it's showing at the top for $60 + tax. $72.97 total. It's almost always there on Sundays.

Good luck! If you have any more questions, just ask! :goodvibes

ps. I wouldn't stay here if you have an early afternoon arrival. There's not much to do, after all it's an airport. For late arrivals or early departures, it's so sweet!. One time, our 9 pm departure time from Philly was delayed due to severe T-storms up the whole east coast. We didn't take off until 12:20am. Boy was I glad we had the room at the Hyatt. Kids & I were delirious at 3 am.

To further clarify, you know it's the Renaissance when it's 4* in MCO area, but is recommended by 90% of Hotwire customer reviews, and has a TA rating of 4.0/5. This often appears if searching for only 2 ppl. That's why it's better to always enter 2 adults/2 children.

This method has worked for me for years. In 2009, I felt confident enough that I bought 5 rooms for our cruise group. Last fall I booked 6 rooms! I was sweating there for a few seconds, but it was definitely still correct!

Good luck all!! :goodvibes pixiedust:

Thanks so much, that is very helpful! Our flight gets in around 10pm I think so the convenience would be great since we will most likely be ready to go to bed.

Thanks so much for the info! I'm looking on the last minute travel, and I must be missing something, because I'm really not seeing one that resembles the airport hyatt. (we've only stayed there once though). What would the star rating be? any guess as to what hotel it is?
Thanks so much again! Appreciate it!

I found it!! I analyzed all the pictures for like 5 minutes and compared them to the Hyatt site. The pool was the tip off! Thanks so much again for the info! I booked it for under 105 dollars with tax!
