What exactly do I need to do before we leave for home on the Magical Express to check my luggage at the resort and not have to carry it with me. Do I have to do it the day BEFORE I leave?

You can't check it the day before. RAC is open 5:00am to noon. You must check your luggage at least 3 hours before your flight. If your flight is before 8:00am (really 8:30am to allow time in line), you would have to take your luggage to the bus and check it in at the airport.

Three hours before my flight or before the bus picks us up. Our flight isn't until 7:40 pm so I assume ME gets us between 3;30 and 4:30. But I guess if you have to check it before noon, we would just take it down before we head to MK for the last day. I thought last time we did it, 5-6 years ago, we had to let them know the day before, because I went down the morning of, they weren't too happy with me.

We check our luggage into RAC when we check out. Once it's set, we are done for the day and all we need to think about is getting back to DME bus 15 minutes before the pick up time. That is one thing to keep in mind, DME will give you a pick up time. That is actually the depature time, so make sure you are at teh stop 15 minutes before that.

I've always checked it on the morning of check-out, no problem. I don't believe the airlines allow them to deliver it the day before. I know you can't check it more than 4 hours in advance of flight time at the airport counter.

Were you staying at a value resort and using bell services? I believe you are supposed to reserve luggage assistance the day before.

You need to have a DME reservation by at least the day before. Is this what they were upset about?
You bring your luggage to the RAC Counter at least 3 hours before your flight between the hours of 5AM & 12 Noon. Everyone must be present with appropriate ID's.

Friendly amendment: Adults must be present with IDs; adults can check in for their children under the age of 18, so the kids (if any) don't need to be present.

I thought so too. But on Sunday DH wasn't needed, nor was his ID. I asked so I could call him to the counter and the RAC rep said nope, just mine was needed. DH and DGD were standing off to the side

I believe check-out time is 11 AM at all Disney resorts (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So, you'll need to be packed up and out of your room by 11. Take your bags to RAC (which is open until noon). Check in your bags, and then go do whatever you want! Just be sure to be back and at the DME bus stop 15 minutes prior to the time shown on your DME letter (which will be hanging on your door the day before you check out).

Leaving from ssr in late 2014 we needed to call United or BAGS (can't recall) the day before to pay our baggage fees and we did online checkin. Then rac had our boarding passes for us.

I believe this is the the case if you have to pay bag fees. You do them in advance. We have free bags on all airlines that fly to our local airport so I haven't had to deal with it but they always ask and I have to show them my proof that I get the free bags

OK Whats RAC?
Resort Airline Checkin
The service offered at the resorts if you are flying on a participating airline. It's basically remote curbside check in. The agents working at RAC are approved by the TSA to check in your luggage and get it to the airport and on your flight for you. I believe the company they work for is called BAGS Inc

On my departure day I have a 10:30pm flight are you able to use RAC.

Be sure you have an existing reservation. If you didn't make it when you first reserved DME, be sure to do it at least 24 hrs prior to your departure. You can go to the resort lobby CMs and they can get it added for you.
Then, on the morning of your departure day, take your bags down to RAC (resort airline checkin) on your way to the parks. Have the bags checked, get your boarding passes (put them somewhere safe!!!) and head out to the park. Return to the resort about an hour prior to your stated pick up time...probably around 3:30 for a 4:30 p/u time. That way, you have plenty of time to get your carry on bags out of storage, use the rest rooms, check out the gift shops one last time, and be at the bus stop 10-15 mins prior to p/u time. The p/u time you are given is the time the bus is supposed to leave the resort, not the time you should arrive at the bus stop!!!
