Magical Express Question

We booked a 5 night trip and are staying on property with the exception of the first night. We are getting in late that night and didn't want to pay the price to be on site, but wanted to be close so that we can start first thing in the morning. My question is, can magical express be used to bring us on property? We have family staying on property that night and we wanted to go to their hotel to meet up for dinner before going to our hotel.

Disney's Magical Express only provides service between Orlando International Airport and Disney-operated, on-site Disney resorts at Walt Disney World -- on or after your check-in day.

For the first night, when you're flying in late, you could stay at the Hyatt in the airport or at one of the hotels near the airport with an airport shuttle. Then, in the morning, you could take DME from the airport to your Disney report. (You would still need DME reservations.)

Where would DME drop you off that first night? DME will only take you to a resort that you have a reservation at. They will not take you anywhere else. If you don't have a reservation that first night at a Disney resort there is no where for them to drop you. They check your travel voucher before getting on the bus to make sure you have a reservation at the resorts that particular bus is stopping at. If you don't have a reservation for that night, you don't get on.

Our family is staying on site, so we were hoping to take Magical Express to their hotel and hang out for a little bit before going to our hotel.

No if you are not staying on property the first night.
As already said, you have to have a Disney resort reservation for that night in order to get a reservation on DME

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure since it says it is included with all Disney packages, which is what we booked. Our plans changed and is getting us in a day earlier than we thought. I think I will look and see if an economy on site Disney hotel is available for that night. Just didn't want the $415/night room we are staying in the rest of the trip just to sleep for a few hours!

Your ride on DME is tied to your resort reservation. So...you need to be listed on someone's reservation. You would have to be on your family's resort reservation in order to ride the DME bus to their resort. I doubt they are going to be willing to add you all to their reservation...it would probably put them over their room limit. So, you have a few choices here..
1. forgo the dinner that first night and meet up with them when you actually arrive at WDW
2. take a cab to, and from, their resort from your hotel
3. book a value resort for that first night and then take DME to that resort and then get to the family members resort.

check out the value resorts....you may get lucky and find just the one night. Where is the other family staying, and where will you be once you get to WDW??

Or look to see how much a car is for one day we have done that before we picked up at MCO & returned to Lake Buena Vista Palace(right by the DTD bus stop) for around or under $50. there is also sites at the Dolphin & the Care Care Center. these are Alamo/National car rental.
