I heard that we are responsible for our luggage from the Baggage Claim to the Welcome Center. Is this true? I was under the impression that Disney takes care of my luggage the minute it is put on the plane.

oversimplifying it, if you're on a domestic flight and use the yellow tags on your luggage, once it's checked at your home airport, you won't see it again until it shows up in your room. things do get a bit strange after 11 pm or so though.

Going to Disney:

With rare ad-hoc exceptions, baggage with yellow tags is delivered to your resort room without your having to intervene.

* Sometimes international passengers must clear or reclear customs in Orlando in which case they will touch their baggage after disembarking and before taking the tram. These passengers may hand the baggage back to baggage personnel rather than schlep the baggage onto the airport tram if desired.

* There have been isolated instances when security is heightened and everyone has to pick up their baggage upon arrival at Orlando.

* For guests arriving in Orlando after 10, baggage may or may not be delivered to rooms between 1 and 7 AM. Most guests request that it not be delivered then. Occasionally it is not possible to have baggage delivered before 7 AM.

* Most of the time guests who did not receive yellow tags in time can still have baggage delivered directly to their rooms. The welcoming area personnel will assist with this.

Guests who wish to have their baggage immediately upon arrival at the resort must not use the yellow tags and will then claim their baggage at the carousels and bring it to the welcoming area.

Where did you hear this? That might help us to alleviate your concerns. The only issues I have heard about are those arriving after 11 pm and before 6 am. But even that's still up in the air.

A couple of people have posted that after 11 pm you have to get your luggage yourself. I'm still am waiting to hear what the final outcome is to flights that arrive around 11 pm and what exactly DME will do with your bags. :confused3

I am going in June and was thinking about using ME. My flight does not get in until about 6:30. How late can I expect my luggage to be delivered to my room? Or am I able to get my bags and transport them myself?

At this point in time, the only people that should have any kind of concern about having to get their own luggage are those who are arriving after 11 pm. And even then, we aren't all that sure what the 'real' story is. DME says that as long as they know ahead of time that you are coming in later, you should be fine. They just need to plan accordingly.
Those of you arriving at MCO before the 11:00 'cut-off' time are going to fine. No one has reported any problems whatsoever. Just realize that you are not going to get your luggage immediatly. It should take you about 70 minutes to get from the plane to your resort checkin line. Your luggage could take up to 3 hrs. to get to the resort. So pack anything you may need in the meantime, in your carryon bag...always a good idea in any case.

If there are those of you who feel better by grabbing your own bags, then by all means do so. Just do not put those yellow luggage tags on your checked bags. You will add an addtl 20 minutes to your time but if having your bags with you is important then the addtl time will be worth it I guess.

Just be aware, if a lot of people start bringing all their checked luggage to the bus with them, DME may be forced to make some changes. There is only so much room underneath those buses.

There's plenty of room underneath the coach :) There have been many times that I had a fully loaded coach, and fit all the luggage just fine. And really, the drivers probably like this more. Sure, its more work, but it usually means more tips.

I checked with the appropriate CM's and DME is currently "suggesting" that guests take their own bags with them so that they don't have to wait until the morning to receive their bags. However, if the guests have put yellow tags and really want the luggage transfer service, they will still send the bags to the resort seperately.

Well, I'll be danged!!! Thanks Tyler. For whatever reason, I believed there wasn't the same amount of space as a usual 'tour' bus. Thanks for the clarification. And yes, I would imagine that although it's more work, it's safe to assume it would mean more tips as well.

I would imagine it's only those arriving into MCO late at night...after 10:30ish. Everyone else should feel comfortable with DME luggage delivery to the resorts. This is really a 'non-issue' folks. There are just not that many people who are impacted by these late night arrivals. Yes, we certainly would like to get a definative word as to how they get their luggage. But for the rest of us, there is no need for concern.

I know you think it really is a non-issue for you. But for me and my family, it is a HUGE issue. We already have our airfare to arrive at 10:58 pm and I have 3 young children. I know there are not that many people that arrive later in the evening, but we are one of those people and we are very concerned. I was really happy after all my research, knowing that I could get my luggage, even if at 3 am. I was really relieved that I didn't have to wait for the luggage with my tired kids.

I guess my main concern now would be, if we still tagged our luggage and DME transported it, how early in the morning could we possibly receive our luggage if they won't deliver in the middle of the night? :confused3

Our flight is getting in at 11pm also. The way I understand it from the previous posts is that if I use the yellow tags. Magical Express will still pick up my luggage but they may NOT deliver it until 7am.
I just don't want to put the yellow tags on it, thinking they will pick it up for me, and then they leave it at the airport!!!! I'm not worried about having it the night we get there because we will all have carry-ons with pj's in it ;)

Is this correct?

I'm going to go one further, me and hubby have an 11:50pm arrival in September. We will have a carryon with night clothes and the next morning's clothes. I don't care when they deliver it the next day as we will be out the door the next morning by 6:45am.
