Magical Express Luggage Transfer Question

Hello, in May my fiancee and I will be flying from Syracuse, NY to Orlando via JetBlue and we are taking advantage of Disney's Magical Express.
JetBlue has two flights that morning headed to Orlando, the first would be a very short (like 30 minute) layover at JFK and the other (our flight) has about a 2 hour layover. (We chose the longer layover because in the past we've had some bad luck with short layovers.)
In the past, in a situation very similar to this, our luggage ended up on the earlier flight and we had to claim it at the airline's office at Orlando Int'l but we weren't using Disney's M.E. that time.

My question is, if that happens this time and our luggage arrives on an earlier flight, will Disney Magical Express folks be there to pick it up or will they only be looking for luggage on flights and for passengers that they have on their list?

Thanks!

If you have your yellow DME luggage tags on your suitcases---no worries! Your luggage will find you at your hotel.

As I understand the process the DME cannot claim your bags until you turn over your baggage claim tags you got at the originating airport. So if your bags get there before you they must ride around until you get there to turn the claim tags over.

Respectfully, VirtuComp, you do misunderstand.

ALL DME-tagged luggage is pulled from the tarmac before any luggage is placed on the luggage carousels to appear in the terminal. No passenger - unfortunately - is required to present any claim ticket to prove the luggage they possess is actually their own. This is true at most airports :( and it is a security issue.

Nope, TheDude may well come out ahead in this case. It's entirely possible their luggage, if it does get on the earlier flight, will be at their resort before they even land at MCO!

they will pick it up even if you're not on the flight as long as you tag it.

This happened to me and my dad a few years ago.

We had a flight from dulles to orlando on united which got cancelled. They "claimed" that they had no seats left on any other orlando flights (which we later found out was a lie) and we got on a flight to tampa. when we got to tampa, we found out that our luggage did not go to tampa with us...it went to orlando on the earlier flight that they would not put us on. So we drove to orlando airport adn when we got there, we found out that our luggage had already been picked up by ME.

we got to POFQ around 1AM....our luggage had been there since about 7 PM!!! It was in our room waiting for us.

This happened to me on the way home once when I used RAC (but not ME). My luggage was already at the airport when I got home, but it would have been nice to that possibility existed. I was freaked out when it didn't come off the luggage carousel :scared1:

Thanks for all the answers! I'm going to try not being nervous about the whole thing! Just seems like our luggage going around on the turntable thing for an hour without being claimed (because we're on a later flight) would be an invitation to a would-be thief and then we'd be at Disney with no luggage!

DME tagged luggage is generally separated on the tarmac and never gets to the luggage carousel. Airline employees don't wait an hour before pulling unclaimed baggage. The carousel is needed for another flight.
