Has anyone tagged their luggage with the Magical Express tags but used their own transportation to get to the Resorts?

I plan on renting a car but would love for my luggage to travel to the hotel so I can go right to the parks.

Anyone know if this is allowed?

See the sticky at the top of the page regarding "regarding DME and luggage only"

ME is meant for people who use the service to be transported to the resorts, and have their luggage taken to their resort.

It's not officially permitted. If you made a very last minute decision to use your own transportation, but you already put the yellow Magical Express tags on your bags, you would need to go to the Magical Express welcoming area to get special instructions* on what to do.

More information (the sticky): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2015788

* Can vary day by day, is on a case by case basis, and can consist merely of, "Let me take down some information and then you are free to go off on your own." One extenuating circumstance might be your plane's arriving late and you need to go directly to a different resort for a restaurant reservation (ADR).

I wouldn't send my luggage that way if I wasn't taking the bus. What you can do if you take a separate car is take your luggage to the resort with you and if your room isn't ready they have a spot that you can check in and leave your luggage until your room is ready so you can still go and enjoy the parks fairly quickly. I know it's not as quick as going straight to the parks from the airport, but it is quicker then using the Magical Express. :drive:

That is what happen to me. I was ready for the ME with family. DH wanted me to go with him to rental to add me as a driver; we had a coupon to add driver free. So when I got over there with my rollator, it was a bit much to get all the way back to ME....I hoped in and just rode with him.
The bags do show up, but many hrs later.

The one problem I had was damaged to my rollator on a previous trip. I did not have a rental and the airport would not take my claim unless I came back to the airport. No way to do that. When we flew out I tried to file the claim and they shot me down due to delay.
So if you do have a luggage lost or damaged it is still an issue to get to the airport with the claim.
conceirge was no help to me, they offered the use of a wheel chair.

Since you had the rollator with you before leaving the airport, you were supposed to file a damage claim before leaving the airport.

Uniquely for guests taking the Magical Express bus, issues with baggage to be delivered by DME are handled in full upon discovery, which would be at your resort; it's like taking a connecting flight.

There is a sticky at the top of this board. Please refer to it for all issues/questions regarding DME luggage handling without riding the bus.
