We will be staying at Pop in June however on our last day we are having breakfast at Chef Mickeys. Would we be able to take ME from The Contemporary Resort to the airport or would we have to return to POP to do so? Also do you think Contemporary Resort would hold our luggage while we attend breakfast? :confused3

Thanks for any help you can send my way.:flower3:

I believe you must be picked up at Pop. Just leave your bags with the RAC people at POP and get them when you come back from breakfast. You will need to be at the POP ME stop (with your carry on bags) no later than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled pickup time (which is generally 3 hours before your flight time).

I'm guessing this is just a typo, but to clarify, if you leave your bags with RAC, they'll be checked into your airline and you'll see them when you arrive at your destination.

If you want to STORE your bags, talk to Baggage Services.

There has been a lot of chatter about DME making it possible to be picked up at a different resort than the resort you are staying at. As of this moment, there is on way to be assured that you will be allowed to do this. It seems to happen on the particular situation.
You can always call and ask DME...but be prepared for a no.

Was not a typo. I am talking about the desk outside near the ME stop. Isn't that the RAC? If so, the RAC people at POP took all of our carry on luggage and held it for us the last two years. They put our name on them and told us to swing by and get them before going to the bus stop. They did keep our checked luggage, though.

Two different things.

RAC will take your checked baggage and send them to the airport for you. They will not hold carry-on luggage for you until your return.

Bell services (or at the values I think they call it luggage services) will hold your carry-on bags at the resort for you so that you can collect them before you leave.

The bell services desk may or may not be in close proximity to the RAC desk depending on the resort. If the two were close together at POP (not sure, never stayed there) then it could have been easy to think that RAC was doing both functions but that would not have been the case.

That could be it, I guess. I just know that the same two guys that took our checked luggage (at the desk outside) also took our carry ons at the exact same time. Sorry for any confusion. :goodvibes

They are close together at Pop, but RAC and luggage services are two different things -- different uniforms, too. When we've stayed at Pop, we left our checked bags with RAC and they sent them on to the airport. We left our carry on bags with luggage services, they gave us claim tickets, and we retrieved our bags before we boarded the DME bus.

With respect to the original question, I think you'll have to get your DME bus at Pop. Goofy4tink might have better information because she always seems to be in the know, but I haven't heard of anyone having luck getting a different pick-up location. It sure doesn't hurt to ask.

A handful of posters who asked were allowed to schedule a DME pickup at a different resort. I don't know if that's a trend.

Bags, Inc., is the company which provides the RAC service. The company also offers valet service and bell services to hotels. I'm pretty sure Bags, Inc. has the valet contract at WDW resorts and has the contract for bell services for at least some of the resorts.

We never got claim tickets. They just put our name on our carryons and we came back for them. Maybe it was RAC and we just got lucky...twice...two different years in a row. :rotfl2:

It is technically quite easy to let anyone reserve Magical Express to and from any resort.

But someone mentioned a possible problem with too much baggage left at some resorts where lots of guests wanted to catch the DME bus home. Bell Services might not be able to store it all in a locked room and might not be able to retrieve it all for guests rushing to board their DME buses.

That was lucky! I know that the RAC and luggage service teams help each other out whether they're busy or not. I would never leave my bags with anyone without getting some sort of claim ticket. The RAC folks will give you a claim ticket for your checked bags to allow you to get the bags at your home airport (I know no one ever checks, but when they mis-direct your bags, you're glad to have your number). Luggage services have a claim ticket that has several stickers on it, so you get one ticket and they put stickers on all your bags. I'm sure the luggage folks are trustworthy and all of that, but the claim ticket gives me some comfort that I have a way to claim the bags other than saying they said they'd hold them for you.

At Pop, Luggage Assistence (not Bell Services) is located right next to the RAC counter. They are two different entities. Now, could someone have a RAC employee take their carryon bags to be stored? Sure. But I do know that every single time I have left carryons at Pop, I have been given a claim thingie. It lists the number of bags I left.
It makes me somewhat uncomfortable to think that these two services are overlapping. Once that starts happening, accidents are bound to happen....perhaps a carryon bag being inadvertantly put on the luggage truck headed back to MCO??

So, if you check bags and leave a carryon with Luggage Assistence, you should have a couple of receipts...your boarding pass, with claim receipt on it, and a bag receipt for your carryon bag.

Wow, they held your stuff for two entire years? ;)
(Sorry- couldn't resist.)

I wouldn't want to leave with RAC without verifying a tag with my destination airport is affixed to the bag.

I wouldn't want to leave a carryon bag without getting a receipt.

RAC and bell services (called luggage assistance at Values) are two different services. However it appears both services were outsourced to Bags, Inc. Not sure if Bags, Inc has the contract for all resorts but I'm pretty sure they at least handle the value resorts.
