Hiya
We just booked our trip for Oct 21-29th at POR and we are wondering how long does it take on the Magical Express Bus does it take and how long until you receive your luggage? Please let me know any comments on it so I have some info on it. thanks!

I've used ME twice now and been very pleased. The first time it was about 1 hour from touchdown to hotel; the second time we had to wait longer for a bus, but still not bad. Not sure how long it took luggage - both time we headed for the parks, and our luggage was in our room when we returned.

I did ME in Dec and was very pleased. From touchdown at the airport to check-in at Pop, it was just over 1 hour 1/2. We are doing ME again in June. Hopefully it will be about the same time for touchdown to check in.

used it 3 times and have not had any of the issues that some seem to have. One time the wait to get through the check-in desk of the ME was longer then the waiting for the bus to board...saturday/sunday mornings can be packed

We used it 2 weeks ago and Me was great. We maybe waited 5 minutes for the bus and it went straight to CBR. Now the check in line at CBR was another story! ME was great. Our luggage came sometime within a few hours. We went to epcot for a few hours and when we got back to our room the luggage was waiting.

I maybe waited 15 minutes for the bus and it went straight to pop. ! ME was great. My luggage came sometime within a few hours. I went to cheft mickey for a few hours and when i got back to my room the luggage was waiting. :smickey:

I wasn't as happy as the others - we were just there last week. From touchdown to hotel was THREE hours :( And we landed at 8:45pm - we had to wait at least 30 minutes in line for the bus to arrive - too late for little ones to wait. If we travel late again, we'll probably pay for a ride just to get us there faster.

The trip back to the airport was fine - just as planned.

We've used ME three times. Average time was one hour from touch down to the hotel. Luggage for our first two trips appeared while we were out and about. Our last trip we arrived at MCO at about 11:00 pm. Our luggage arrived around 2:00. Evidently that is about their cut off, after that they deliver in the morning.

We have been pleased with the experience!

We haven't done the ME but if that is the only reason you'd be renting a car, to get to WDW, then I wouldn't rent the car. We use it for getting all over the place and to places off of property so it's invaluable for us. We rent a car each time. :moped:

How far ahead of your flight time do they pick you up on your departure date? We want to get some early morning touring in prior to heading to the airport.

Also, has anyone done ME and then rented a car while you were there for a few days? We are considering doing this. We usually have a car for the whole trip.

YIKES! You didn't arrive at your destination til midnight? Were there unusual circumstances? That's too bad!

I love Magical Express! I get my own bags (to make sure they made it) and scoot on over to get on the bus. I have only used it once, but we only waited about 15-20 minutes after we got our luggage and walked to the ME area.

I also love the Disney movie they play on your way to the hotel. Seems like the magic starts a bit earlier when I am on the bus going to my hotel. :cheer2:

We're using it in December. I'm relieved to hear all of the positive experiences. :thumbsup2

Wooh, I'm dizzy.  This thread got moved to a different board while I was posting.

Your DME pickup time will be about 2.75 - 3 hours before your flight departs. Given travel time to the airport, checkin time if needed, that getting through security can take as much as an hour, the additional minutes to get from security to your gate and the requirement that passengers be in the gate area x number of minutes before the flight departs - this is not as extreme as some people think, and not all that much earlier than you'd need to head out via any other means of transportation.

My experience with ME was mixed. We fully enjoyed the bus ride and as many have said it took about an hour to get to the hotel (POPC) from touchdown. However we had an evening flight, touching down at 8:00pm. Our luggage didn't get to our room until 11:30pm. I think it would be fine earlier in the day if your carry-on was properly packed. However, if we find ourselves on another evening flight, we will use ME bus services, but handle our luggage ourselves. It is still a great service and fun for kids - watching a Disney movie as we are taken to the hotel.

I'm still torn about this too.

My mom and I are flying in separately (meeting at MCO.. she gets in much earlier than me and will already have been sitting around the airport with her luggage for 5-6 hours waiting). I am arriving late afternoon (4:30), and we are in a hurry to get to the parks for a little bit of evening magic in the "world." Also, I'll probably just have carry ons, so no luggage transport necessary.

If SPEED is our top priority.. but we also don't want to spend $100 on transportation.. which would you do?

I've used DME about 4 times now. It's been fine every time. My last trip, to POP, was on the longish side since the bus stopped at CSR, AKL, and then on to POP. But, once the plane arrived at the gate, I used the ladies room, then went directly to the DME area, it was 7 minutes in the check-in line, then about 2 minutes in the bus line, 5 minutes on the bus waiting. Then, it took about 25 minutes to get to WDW proper, and about 30 minutes to get to POP.

If speed is of the essence, I would tend to use a towncar. But only if I had only carry-on luggage. The wait at baggage claim can be on the long side, depending on how quickly your bags come out. Mine always seem to be the last to come down the chute!!

DisneyJade, I'm not too sure what to tell you. I would be very tempted to have your mom take the DME bus directly to the resort, rather than hang around the airport for 5-6 hrs. I'm would imagine that she is on the reservation so that she could check-in, and get all settled in. Then you could take the DME bus when you arrive. Everyone does not have to arrive at the same time. My dh and dd arrived 36 hrs after I did and had no issues using DME.

In advance, I apologize to everyone who's been around here a while and read me post this time and time again ....

No matter where I fly, no matter when I fly, I ALWAYS pack a carry-on with the first 24 hours of supplies just in case the AIRLINE delays my luggage. It's just a smart way to travel. It's like insurance against a luggage delay causing a big problem for you at the beginning of your vacation.

I applied the same priniciple when I used DME last May, and will do so again in November. When we went last May, our flight arrived in the morning but we really didn't care when our luggage arrived, because we were good through the following morning. We checked into our room at CBR, had lunch, oriented ourselves, and then my wife and I took our 5 year old and 2 year old for a swim. When we got back from our swim, our luggage was in our room. Sure, I could have NOT packed bathing suits and "beach shoes" in our carry-ons, and then complained that the DME luggage was taking too long, but instead I took control of the situation in advance and made sure we'd be able to do what we wanted to do without having to rely on anyone else.

It really takes up very little room to pack for a day in a carry-on, especially since we're talking about a warm weather climate. And we had a 2 year old still in diapers.

Like I said, I pack this way any time I fly, whether it's to Orlando or Omaha. To me, going to baggage claim and then going to the DME desk is an unnecessary waste of time. Now, some people do this not as a time-saver but rather because being without their luggage makes them nervous. For those people, their best bet is absolutely to go to baggage claim to retrieve their own luggage and bring it to the bus with them -- no use for them to start their vacation feeling unnecessarily nervous. But if stopping at baggage claim first is tried as a time-saver, it won't succeed. Everything will go faster for you by using DME the way it was designed, to skip baggage claim.

The two HUGE exceptions to this are golfers with a soon-approaching tee time, and people staying at the FW campground whose tents and other needed equipment are checked luggage.
