Magical Express for our luggage, Rental Car for us?

I know that we are NOT going to be riding the Magical Express buses from MCO to Wilderness Lodge. We like to have a rental while on vacation, plus I love getting off a plane and into a car, putting down the window,turning on music and cruising through Orlando on my way to WDW. I feel like my vacation freedom starts then...Not on a bus with tons of other people hoping my resort is next. I'm WAY too impatient.

Anyway, DH had the fabulous idea that if we could, can we go check in for ME, then just not get on the bus? Our luggage will be tagged, and go to WL. We won't have to drag eight bags around, we can go to the Emerald Aisle, pick out our car, and drive straight to WL and check in (beating the ME bus there by a mile) and go to the parks. When we return, our luggage will be in our room.

Any ideas? I just hate schlepping luggage. I seriously want to be a celebrity and have an assistant or roadie do it for me.

It would have been nice. Maybe I'll put DH on the bus and I'll get the car! Just kidding!

I just want to second CarolA's answer...I inquired about ME taking our luggage and us taking a rental car and was told "no." Our solution was to pack lighter and just do carry-ons. It is so awesome just walking off the plane and walking up to your car at EA and going on your merry way! Although, MScott1851, I do like the idea of having a roadie to schlep our stuff!

Now... I still don't know how we'll do this. Rentals on-site I find expensive!!
I guess we could take our car at the airport but I loved the idea of ME...no stress!!

We had the same idea but was told ME can't be used for luggage transportation only...also, right before you board the bus they scan your boarding voucher with a hand-held scanner so they would know whether or not you really took the bus

Another idea would be to go ahead and use ME to get to your resort and let them transport your luggage (it worked great for us, we were in our hotel room within an hour after landing and our luggage arrived about 2 hours later), then pickup a rental car from the MK Car Care Center. They have a shuttle that will pick you up at your resort and take you to the rental counter.. we did this and got a really great deal with National - and no airport tax fees since we didn't pick the rental up at the airport. We didn't use ME to return to the airport, because we just returned our rental there. It was very easy...

Wow...I didn't see that yet!!! I got live $150 for 5 days and tried different codes from mousesavers...although maybe I should wait until the ones for October come out!

The ones I used were Walmart codes....didn't try my entertainment book coupons though. Will try again and see!

When we used DME last week, the lady at the bus scanned our 'passes' as we got on the bus. I'm not sure if our luggage would have gone to the resort if we hadn't ridden the bus with the scanning.

This is what we did also. The rates through National were actually cheaper this way. We also just returned the car to the airport on our way home. If our airline had been one where we could check our bags at the resort, I may have considered using ME back and returning the car to the car care center.
