I searched and found that ME will only take you back to the airport from the resort hotel on your reservation. But will they take you TO a resort other than the one on your reservation? Can you set it up that way? Staying at All-Star Sports but may need to be dropped off at the Poly for an 'Ohana ADR if at all possible.

Because DME it tied to your resort reservation, you can't be taken to a different resort..or picked up at one. If the resort you want to go to is on the same route your particular resort bus is using, then sure, you can hop off. For instance...you're staying at Pop but want to go to AKL....those two are usually on the same route so you could hop off the bus at AKL. Just keep in mind that any bags you have with you would ha ve to be taken off the bus when you got off.
Otherwise, no, you must be on the bus that goes to your particular resort.
You could, if you wanted to, and had no bags, get off at the first stop the bus makes and then either get a cab from there, or take a bus to AK and then transfer to the Polynesian bus. Or take a bus to MK and then boat or monorail to the Polynesian from there.

Also keep in mind that none of the routes are set in stone. For example last month I stayed at the Pop and the only other resort we stopped at was AoA.

Although it uses buses DME is not a bus service. It is a hotel transfer service and that is its licensing with MCO. As such, it can only transfer you between the airport and your hotel.

It is also an on demand service. A bus goes to wherever it had passengers to stop off. If no one is going to the Poly then the don't stop there.

Thanks for all the info! Hoping I either magically get a later ADR or my parents' flight comes in right on time and ME doesn't drag their feet. Flight lands at 2:30, 5:20 ADR at the moment. Parents are flying, but my family is driving so we will be driving them to the Poly after ME drops them at AS Sports. I would like more cushion personally as there is never any guarantee how long ME will take and we had a darn difficult time navigating around the World last trip and that took some significant extra driving time many places, including to the Poly.

They could take a limo to the poly, store their luggage with bell services and then taxi to you hotel. Costs more $ but the timing is a little more predictable

If their flight arrives, on-time, at 2:30, they should be at ASSports by 4, no later than 4:30. Later than that would be very unusual. So, it shouldn't be an issue getting to the Polynesian, from Sports, by 5:10. It takes about 15 mins to drive. The drive to the Polynesian from Sports should be pretty easy. Get onto World Dr to the entrance to MK area, then left onto Seven Seas Dr.

Call DME and ask. Enough people, politely, ask and Disney might change the policy. A few posters claim to have received an exception.

+1 this...

Disney is in the business to try to help their guests whenever possible. Sure, it might not be possible, but you risk nothing by calling and asking... or even asking at the airport when they load you onto the buses. Be prepared for a "sorry, no" but please and thank you are the most powerful pixie dust that us guests are armed with. See my sig line... "Go ahead and ask, they can't hit you" (and if they do, I guarantee you get anything you want..lol)

The next few posts will be from people quoting rules, and policy, like they are the Disney Police... ignore them, call and ask, and then accept the decision either way and enjoy your trip.
