Magical Express - changed hotel after receiving tags

We received all of our magical express documents but recently changed our hotel. When I called Disney to ask what we need to do, I was told I just need to use a marker and write the correct hotel on the yellow luggage tag. Has anyone done this before, it doesn't seem like it would work since they are all coded? I know we can just pick up the bags ourselves, but it's so much more convenient to have Disney take care of it for us.

It will work as the scan will have updated to your new resort. They only ask you to write in the new one because some baggage handlers don't scan to find out where it is going they just look at the tag. So to ensure your bags get where they are suppose to go you write the new hotel and the back end changes the scan bar to the right one with out you realizing it changed.

You have 1 other option, if you are worried. It's what I do if the resort I change to is in a different area, like say going from WL (which is MK) to AKL (which would be AK area)
You can skip the yellow tags and give the ME CM your claim checks. They'll get the bags from baggage claim for you and route them just as if they had the yellow tags on them.
