Magical Express and United Baggage Fees

If I recall correctly, we were plesantly surprised when we checked our bags for our United flight through Magical Express to find out that there was no charge for bags checked in through RAC at that time. Is that still the case or have they changed it by now?

Thanks!

There is no charge for the RAC, but United may charge you a baggage fee if you're not traveling on first class tickets or not an elite-level frequent flyer. Check with your airline prior to checking your bags at RAC to verify the charge/no charge.

At one point, the RAC FAQ on the Disney site indicated that United passengers did NOT have to pay the standard baggage charges when using the RAC service. There were several confirmations on this board from United passengers who did not have to pay baggage fees. (The same issue existed with DCL's Onboard Check-in Service, FWIW.) I believe that the explanation was that there were some connectivity issues between BAGS and United that were preventing them from getting the charges through and that rather than back out of RAC United was waiving the baggage charges.

I can't find that exclusion specified in the FAQ any more, however, so it may be that they have worked out their technical issues and BAGS is now able to collect baggage fees on behalf of United.

I heard (live, not via 'he said, she said, they told her... ;)) a CM at the RAC counter telling a Guest that United is a Disney "partner", so United passengers using RAC don't have to pay the checked-baggage fee.

Admittedly, this was almost a year ago.

We checked out of the Poly using ME to MCO on September 15th this year and did NOT have to pay for our one checked bag on United. We're not elite passengers; just plain ole' coach class travelers!

As of 9/23, United was still not collecting fees through RAC (it doesn't matter if you are using ME or not). My husband is 1K so wouldn't need to pay anyway but we asked as he checked his bags. At this point only Jet Blue and United don't charge at RAC (no charges for SW at Pop either).

The CM indicated that SW would be expanding to other resorts but I've heard that one before. Time will tell.

We flew on United in January and July this year. We did not have to pay any fees. There is generally a flyer in your room and at the bottom it continues to say that there are no baggage fees on United. Whenever I fly United, I always expect to have to pay them because I never know if they will change the rule. So far, twice this year I did not have to pay any fees, plus the BAGs rep also said it didn't matter how many bags I had either so I checked 3 for the 2 of us at no fees.
