We are planning an early December trip - just the three of us. Plan to stay three days at US then it is off to WDW for the balance of our trip. We would like to skip the rental car this trip, but I am not sure how to best do this. If we take Mears to US, should be do a round trip and try to coordinate Magical Express transportation to WDW? I am not sure how that would work... Any suggestions?

I have a similiar question. We will be at US first and then to WDW. We will however have a rental car. Can I use the MME on the departure for just the luggage transfer?

Why go back to MCO? Just book Mears from MCO to Universal and then from MCO to WDW. For 3 people a towncar wouldn't cost that much more.

If you skip Universal ME will handle your transfers and the the MYW passes are almost free for the extra days.

I went on the Mears website yesterday and didn't see pricing for US to WDW - thought I'd be better off using the Disney "freeby" if I could work it out. I am back to the Mears site for more research :)

I think what you are asking is whether you can get ME from US to WDW, if so, the answer is no. ME is just a transportation from and to MCO/WDW resorts. You can, however, use it to go back to MCO from WDW resort. You could use Mears to take you to US and then from US resort to WDW (or use a car service), but there is no link from US to WDW, sorry. It's not a freebie if you have to pay to get back to MCO. For 3 people a towncar is the way to go. MCO-Universal Hotel--WDW resort should be around $100.

Sorry, but this cannot be done either. They specifically state that they will not transfer luggage alone, you need to check in with them before they pick up the luggage. If you think about it, it is a safety measure in case some criminal element wanted to place a device on board an airline or bus of unsuspecting tourists this would be a great way to do it. If you look on these boards there is a ME FAQ, I believe they explain it in detail. Why not return the rental car before you leave and you can then use the ME, which also allows for boarding pass check-in at the resorts. HTH :flower:

You have it backwards. You can do luggage only when you leave Disney.
:No. After utilizing the Resort Airline Check-in service, you can either take advantage of the complimentary motor coach transportation to the airport or arrange your own private transportation. Your checked luggage will be transported to the airport regardless of which transportation option you choose.

Why wouldn't I do the roundtrip from US with Mears to MCO and use ME for the WDW portion of my trip. Of course it wouldn't make sense to think they would come to US to get us - I really never even considered that.

You'd be wasting half a day going to MCO and then back to WDW. You'd probably have to lie to Disney giving them a flight that arrives when you plan to get back to MCO. You'd then have to give them your luggage, lie and tell them you forgot to put the tags on.

Mears will cost you $75, a towncar should be around $100. You might call the towncar companies and get a price on going from you Universal Hotel to WDW. It may cost you a little more than the $30 you'll save with Mears but it'll work out much better.

Mears tranports guests from WDW hotels to Universal. Towncar companies that tranport guests from MCO will also transfer you from a Universal hotel to a WDW hotel. I'd assume Mears would be able to get you from a Universal area hotel to a WDW hotel a lot easier than going to MCO.

I see what you're saying, but have to disagree. First, let me say that I have no intention of "lying" to Disney - just trying to utilize a perk and seeing how to best do that. I feel like I was being chastized. I was simply going to take the shuttle to the airport and shlep my own bags from there to WDW. I doubt that it would take a half a day as you say, but I'll certainly keep that under consideration.

Just trying to help. You have to give Disney your flight information. Do you really think you can give them a flight days before you checkin to your Disney resort? The service is set up to pick you up shortly after your flight arrives and then transport you directly to your resort.

You seem to have your heart set on using ME. Giving Disney incorrect flight information is the only way I think you'll be able to book it. Not chastizing you, just telling you what you'll probably have to do.

If the 3 of you are over age 12 then I don't think you'll be saving any money compared with either using a towncar for your transfers or just using a towncar or cab for your Universal to Disney leg.

Nope, not all of us are over 12. I think I'll end up renting a car as $100 seems kind of steep. I wasn't aware that the only way you could use ME was with flight info. If that is the case, we can't do it for the reasons you pointed out.

What we've decided on (there are 5 "adults" :)), is to rent a car for the trip from MCO to US, keep the car to transfer ourselves to WDW, but return the car to the National/Alamo counter at the Dolphin. That way, no wasting time going back to MCO. Of course you have to then rent from one of those 2 companies, but I think they're okay.

We arrive at WDW on a Sat. night, and we will return the car the Sunday morning. We're getting a mini van, and I think it's about 100 bucks (maybe more) for the 3 days. We'll then use ME back to MCO

Actually I have heard of someone doing this. Call Disney and tell them what time you plan to arrive at the airport. Now I am not sure it is going to save you any money since you have to pay for the shuttle to MCO. So be sure to check the pricing. I don't think Disney cares as long as you are at the airport.

If your airline is a participating airline you can check your luggage at the resort directly onto your plane and NOT take the ME bus back. If your airline does not do resort check in then you will have to get the luggage back either on the bus or in your car, it's not going to be sent ahead. (if that makes sense)

Here is what we are doing...going MCO to YC by ME...then taking a towncar or cab to Hard Rock and then HR to MCO by cab :earsgirl:
