MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

This is why my family should never book a trip so far in advanced. We've changed plans again. We've now decided to elave early on the 18th and go all the way to WDW. We've also decided to spend the night before the cruise there to instead of CI&S. We got a great rate on Pop century. Never stayed there before so it should be intresting.

Tenya we are going to be in EPCOT all day on the 19th so if you'd like to meet up for a little bit let me know.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow and try not to over eat to much.

Well, it looks like Monday at Palo will be a DIS brunch...we have reservations at 11:00 as well (along with SailingShamu). This weekend I am hoping to finish up making all my FE gifts. That and decorating the house will probably take the whole weekend! Of course the other day, my sunglasses fell out of my purse, and then were run over in our garage...so today I got to go pick out new ones. I just hope they will be done in time (they are prescriptions of course!)

Off to go watch a movie with the boys. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Lissa -
We are staying at the POP too!!!

We arrive on the 17th - I am spending the afternoon on the 17th at Downtown Disney (DH and kids are going to be at the POP pool and then meet me for dinner at Raglan Road). Thursday the 18th we are at Magic Kingdom in the AM and then EPCOT in the PM with late dinner ressies at the Rose and Crown to watch IllumiNations from there. Then Friday the 19th - we are spending the day at MGM (DHS) with dinner ressies at Hollywood Brown Derby (early so we can get to Fantasmic! early show and then Osbourne Family Lights afterwards!!!!)
Then of course off to Port Canaveral in the AM for the MAGIC cruise!!!

Of course - this is my plan right now. Most of you remember, my mom is terminally ill. We got really disappointing news last week - the chemo didn't work and the cancer has significantly progressed. :sad1: The outlook for time is not good at all - it might be less than a couple of months. But we are spending what time we can with her......this Thanksgiving weekend will be a long one and we'll be at her house for the entire long weekend and plan on doing it RIGHT!

Happy Thanksgiving all -
Robin

Robin,
So sorry to hear about your mothers treatment not going so well. We are thinking of you and your family.
Angie

I'm so sorry about your mom, Robin. Sending you lots of prayers and :grouphug: for a Happy Thanksgiving weekend with your mom!

We're also just doing a one day delivery on the FE.

Depending on what we find out about Carly's ankle, we're scheduled for the Jeep Excursion. Joe and I will probably still go, even if Carly can't.

Oh my gosh, Amy, your girls Christmas picture is precious! Congratulations to Emily on making the off-season team!

Lissa, let's try and meet for a minute on the 19th.

Here's one for you all -- 4 weeks from today is Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!
tenya

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! How many are going black friday shopping tomorrow? We did it last year and loved it but won't be able to this year :(

My sister Mandy and I are doing our Black Friday shopping. We are hitting Old Navy first -and then the rest of Arundel Mills (in Glen Burnie, Maryland). I really don't have a lot to get (that's where Downtown Disney comes into play for me).

Happy Thanksgiving all -

Unfortunately, I'm working 9-5 tomorrow so I'll just be able to squeeze a bit in before work. There is NO WAY I'll be out at 4AM, 7 or 8 ok, but not 4AM.

Robin - I'm sorry that your mom's news wasn't good. It sounds like you all are definitely making the most of the time you have together.

We are doing just one delivery per cabin for the FE's. What's nice about FE's is that each DISer can do whatever they want about them. When it starts being "assignments" that takes the fun out of it. I hope no one participating stresses themselves out about it. And if we have deliveries all through the week, then the kids will all have something to look forward to.

Lissa - your plans (or should I say continuing change in plans - LOL) sounds like us when we are beginning our travel plans - sorting out all the possible options and figuring out when we'll go where. We really wanted to squeeze in a day at WDW between now and the cruise so that we could see the Osborne Family Lights but with school schedules we just couldn't do it. We'll still be staying at CI/S.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving today and you all are ready for the big push for packing and details. Maybe we should post a list of things to not forget to take care of... I'll put my first one next post.

(NOTE: Editted because I'm seriously calendar challenged!)

22 days to go (Friday) til we sail. It's time to start thinking of the little details of things that are necessary for going out of town and for the cruise.

Friday's thing to do:

Get your calendar for the rest of November / December and mark the date for when to put in a stop-order for your newspaper and mail delivery. US residents can go to http://www.usps.com two weeks in advance to put in a "hold mail" order. Local newspapers have varying lead times, so check with your local paper to see what their requirements are.

Good Morning and hopefully everyone made it through Thanksgiving. I arrived home Weds night and saw paper all over the yard. We have a very energitic golden retrever that hasn't grown out of rhe puppy stage at 3. It seems that UPS dropped off our cruise tickets at the front door since we were at work and the dog thought she had a new play toy. Chewed documents and paper was everywhere. We live in the country so it is not uncommon for UPS to do this.

I was able to find the ticket book itself and it wasn't in that bad of shape, just a few teeth marks in the corners. The baggage tags were still usable but everything else was destroyed. I told family someone is going to have a new dog for christmas but was told I would be the one in the yard by wife and daughter.

Laura is going to call and see what was in the other documents since we already did the online checkin.

We also have Palo Brunch reservations on Monday at 11 AM.

Cold in Florida, all of mid 30's. Break out the long johns for people up north!!:rotfl:

Everyone have a safe trip to Florida for the cruise!!

YUM! :offtopic:

I am sure you'll get it all sorted out, but I suppose its stress you don't need right now.

Our tickets arrived today so I think we are now nearly all set - we haven't done the online checkin yet, but will do before we arrive. Although there seems little point for us as when we arrived for our last cruise the line was massive, and the concierge line was quite a few people in it. We were approached by a kind cast member to guide us and as we were not US residents we were shown to a different area that had no line at all :thumbsup2

The weather in Orlando is not as cold as you have stated, it got down to high 40's last night, and is currently 66F at 2:45pm but it will be much warmer in the sun. It did get down on one night last week to high 30's. But its still cold for the time of year, so lets hope it warms up nicely in 3 weeks.

How many of you are bringing a small tree? Does it have lights? If you are not bringing a tree, what are you doing about presents Christmas morning? The tree I bought will not fit in our suitcase.
He asked if anyone has ever seen people opening their family presents by the big tree in the atrium.

I did go out for Black Friday, but I got absolutely nothing. They were either out of the things I wanted or the items are available online only. I guess I will be ordering on the computer tonight.

I believe this is post #99. One more to go for my goal of 100.

Angie

We aren't bringing a tree. We are bringing some lights (using Command hooks that don't leave marks to hang them). We are also going to get a stocking for the whole family at Downtown Disney for Santa to put pressies in :-) Since Santa is bringing small gifts that are easily brought home. We also purchased the stateroom decorations and said it was from Captain Mickey (as a surprise for Ryan and Meghan).

:santa:
Robin

We are bringing a tree and decorations. I think that it is taking up a whole suitcase:rolleyes: Our cruise documents arrived today so that was very exciting. It seems much more real now! Have a great weekend everyone!

(Editted to correct the countdown days because I'm a goof)

With 21 days til sailing (ok, it's not officially 21 for another hour) and some folks reporting that their cruise documents have arrived, it's time to:

Check the front porch for your cruise documents! And finish your online check-in, printing out the signature pages, having all the adults sign that need to do it, and put them all together so you'll have them ready to go.

If we bring a tree, it will be the tiny one I have in my office. No lights, though. As for gifts, we won't have any except what is in the stockings and maybe a new DS game for each boy to open that morning - although it might be that the grandparents are gifting the DS games which means we'll have them packed for after Christmas visit to the grandparents house.

Santa will deliver a picture of their Santa gift that he is leaving at home.

I have finally decided what I'm going to do about telling the boys. We have a count-down thing we use each year starting Dec. 1st - we call it "Ho-Ho's pockets" because that's what the boys called Santa when they were little and we started it. We leave a treat in the little pocket each day - used to be matchbox cars, etc., but now it's progressed to christmas ornaments, dollar bills, and treats like Reese's Cups :) What we are going to do this year is on the 19th which will be their last day of school and the day we leave, we will leave a note that tells them we're going on the Disney Cruise for Christmas. This way they can be excited about it all day, share their news with their friends and teachers, and it will make the final packing / car-loading so much easier for us :) Now to find or write a cute poem or message that tells them about it.

Anyone here a creative writer? Or seen a cute way of telling someone they are going on a cruise? I know there are occasionally threads on the main board.
