MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Susan - thanks for the idea about a representation of the actual gifts! The boys aren't getting much from me and DH as the cruise is our big family gift, but there will be a few gifts for them to unwrap. Santa never wraps and just leaves his one-gift-per-child by the tree with the stockings.

So Santa will have to write a note to tell the boys that while he could fill their stockings on the ship, he couldn't leave their gifts onboard.

I really need Nathan to decide what he's going to ask Santa for. Last year Santa brought the Wii as a joint gift for the boys. This year, they will get separate things.

Where did I put that Lego catalog?....

I've been thinking of the how to do the Secret Santa. Tell me what you think -- just kids? or are adults interested? one gift? or little things during the week? (that would be kind of like the FE, but for a specific person)

I'd be interested in doing the Secret Santa if it's for the kids.

I vote we do one "big" (like $10) gift.

I was actually thinking that it would be fun for us "Big kids" to participate too! :santa: The small individual gifts would be fun but one bigger gift would work too! We have 7 of us, 3 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids (well truthfully we are all adults by Disney standards because we are all over 10). I guess we will just wait and see what everyone else thinks and decide how to handle the secret santa that way.

We can always let all who want to participate do so and just match the kids with the kids and adults with adults.

Will we keep it Disney themed or anything goes?

It would be easy to match age groups with age groups. Lets wait until after the weekend to give more people time to chime in.

I also agree about a $10 limit. Should we keep it Disney-themed or go with a likes list?

Hey Tenya-count us in for the Secret Santa gift. We will do whatever everyone else decides to do, adult, child, family......

I finally bought the last of our FE gifts todya. DH says we are going to have to bring an extra suitcase just for all the gifts, and tree decorations!:lmao:

We bought two samll trees from QVc this weekend. There little but big enough for mini ornaments and have battery operated lights. Were also bringing a strandad of lights and a few other decorations.

Cindy last year mom gave Matt a new computer for christmas. Well obviously we couldn't fly with it so we took pictures and put the pictures in a card. Matt's face when all he got was an envelope was priceless but at least he knew what was waiting him at home.

Hello!
We would be interested in the Secret Santa.
Our preferrence is for Individuals not per cabin.
Keeps Adults (18 Or Older) and Kids Separate.
We would also Preffer something Disney Themed.
A Max Of $10.00 - $15.00 Seems reasonable.

Let us know what your need from us.
We are in the FH Sign up spreadsheet.

Thanks
Ed

I wish some of my UOP students remembered history. I teach a cultural diversity class and they have to discuss immigration. Most do not do very well.

Giving a test today on industrialization and immigration in late 1800 USA. Oh to be a history teacher. I love it.

We are open to whatever the majority of the group wants to do.

We're going to skip the Secret Santa, but it does sound like fun.

Lissa - that's funny about Matt and his envelope for Christmas.

I've been thinking about whether I might want to actually give the kids their "gift" on Thursday night before we leave on Friday - as in make up a nice letter to have them open that says we're going on a Disney cruise -- partially so it will make final packing easier on Thursday night / Friday morning, and also so that they can share their fabulous Christmas news with their friends and teachers on Friday.

But then I've kept it from them since Feb. 2007, so what's one more day? What to do? What to do??

It wouldn't be like I was blabbing -- because it would be a planned moment, not me just blurting it out like I did before spring break one year.

Thoughts? Ideas for telling? What would you do? And why?

Cindy,
My parents suprised me one year with a trip to WDW. They told me and my brother the day before and it was so exciting because I got to think about it all day at school the next day. I got to share my news with the class. It was so cool that I knew I was going on vacation the next day, but I didn't have all that time leading up to it asking "When are we leaving".
I'm not suprising my girls. Mostly because I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut. However, they have never been on a cruise so I really don't think they know what to expect. I know they will be suprised when they see how much there really is to a cruise.
I know your kids will be surprised either way that you decide to tell them.

Hello Ornament Exchangers!!!!

Well, the time is fast approaching so I thought we should talk about the time and place of the exchange. I'm sure Disney will have all sorts of fun things happening onboard during our at sea days so I've come up with an idea about the actual exchange. Those of us meeting for the digital scavenger hunt will be gathering in the Promenade Lounge at 9:30 Monday, Dec 22. Directions and discussion will be brief so how about in the same location at 10 AM. Currently there are 19 of us. I'll post names below. People are welcome to join us for the festivities, the more the merrier. If you or your d.s.o. (Disney significant other)are interested please PM me to be added to the list. Remember exchangers, you cannot bring wrapped presents on an airplane so things must be wrapped in FL or in gift bags. Suggested price for an ornament is app. $10 more or less. It does not need to be Disney themed.

Happy Shopping!!!!!

We've decided to tell ours on 19th Dec. We arrive in Orlando on the 18th Dec, and they will be far too tired to take it in on the arrival day. (A 9 hour flight and 5 timezones is not great especially for children). They know something is going on, as they have been fitted out with 'posh' clothes, but we've just told them we are going somewhere special for Xmas Day, and they have accepted this for the time being.

DVC sent us details of the member cruise for September 09, which our DD obviously read and kept it to herself, a few days later she suddenly said we are going on a disney cruise for Xmas, I have seen the paperwork. She only believed it wasn't true when we showed her the postcard, with September 09 on it. :) DD and DS were pretty disappointed.

My DW is now getting worried about formal night. I needed to buy a Tux for a work event, so I've decided to bring it all the way to Orlando with me, but my DW is now thinking she will be underdressed.

She has some nice dresses that are just below the knee, however, nothing that is full length.

Hopefully you don't mind me asking but if your dressing up on formal night what will you be wearing.

Any help appreciated

Paul

My mom and I at least will be there for the digital scavenger hunt. Matt for the most part will be MIA from most activities. The only ones we have told him he is not excluded from are the initial meet and greet and taking the group picture. Have we decided when and where we want to do the picture? As for secret santa we will not be able to be involved. My mom has threatened me if i spend anymore money on items for thsi cruise she may shoot me. Hope everyone is havign a good week.

Lissa

We can do the meet and greet/digital savanger hunt and the ornament exchange.

Sounds like a good plan and will work out well for us.

Neither one of my formal dresses are full length. They both fall below my knee. My mom has one that is full lengh and one that is not. To me anything that is beyond what you would wear to say church is formal it really doesn't matter the length.
