MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

I had a message from one of you that I have searched this thread for and I cannot find it. It basically asked me to PM to request that we get added to the fish extender list, (a one some other site???) that showed the ages and people participating so I could get age appropriate stuff. At the time I could not PM but now I can so please let me know how I was supposed to PM to get on that list. Sorry to be such a pain!!!!:sad2:

Please add us tp the list! Just paid for the trip. This is our very first cruise and we are excited.

There will be myself, my husband (Greg) and our 10 year old daughter Marissa. I have read post about getting the children to know each other before the trip so they can have a friend we they arrive. My daughter loves to text so if anyone has a daughter around the same age, let me know.

We hope it is not too late to get in on the exchanges. We do not have a room assigned.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the information and hope to get is all figured out before we the trip.

Welcome Kathy & family! It's great to have more families join us. We are getting so excited about the cruise. I have finally started making my F/E. It is a lot harder than I thought. I have embroidered all our names on the pockets, so now I just have to sew them on. Hopefully I'll get one done this weekend. I am making our friends (SailingShamu) their F/E too, so hopefully it turns out ok. I just got some stuff to give out for the gifts, but have more to find. I am getting all sorts of ideas from the main forum. We are starting to wind down with football, only 2 more games to go, although with Nick's team, they are going to the playoffs, so who knows how long that will last! Well, have to go get dinner ready so I hope everyone has a good night!

I think I am going to have to buy a F/E. I can not sew a stitch! I am craft challenged.

I have to read more to understand the gifting process.

I have to stop thinking about it and actually get some work done.

:goodvibes Hey its Anna (im 13) again. jw what other teens are going on the cruise.PARENTS have ur teens post on the teen cruise board!:thumbsup2

Kathy and Family, Welcome to the board. We are all so excited for the cruise, and it is great to have another family join us.
Traveling with me is my dh, dd Ashley (10), and dd Madison (7). This is our first Disney cruise and the first ever cruise for my girls. Ashley has been talking to another 10 year old girl from the cruise. I am sure they would love to meet your daughter too.
We are just using a Christmas stocking for our FE. I got one made with our families name on it.

Everyone here has been sick. First, Madison was sick with strep throat, then dh got it. Now I have been sick for 3 days with a horrible cold. No slow down for me though, we have my classes, the girls school, dance, and Girl Scouts. I so need a vacation.

Have a good upcoming weekend.

Angie

Can't wait!!! Anyone have children going that are around my DD age 11 or so. She would love to chat with them some before the cruise.

I tried sending a pm. but it would not let me. My daughter is 10 and would love to make friends before the trip

Okay, I need a little help and I am sure one of you can help me.
My 10 year daughter now has 2 pen pals for the cruise. Which is so great!!

However, now my 7 year old daughter is upset because she doesn't have one. If any of you have a daughter around her age that would be willing to send a letter or two back and forth, that would be great. Madison is 7 and in 2nd grade. She will turn 8 on the 29th after the cruise.
Anyway, if your daughter wants to be pen pal please PM me. They only have a write a few sentences to each other.

Thanks,
Angie

Angie - my daughter Emily just turned 7. So, she's about a year behind yours, but I'm sure that she'd love to talk to your DD.

We just booked a day room at the Hyatt for after we get off the boat until our flights. Just wondering if anyone else is doing this? What is the pool like at the hyatt and do they have a hottub? is everyone getting excited !!!!???:cool1:

Ok - I am very jealous of those of you on the Baltic Cruise . . . I'm working on a photo book for my inlaws from their cruise this summer. The pictures are amazing!!! you will have a blast.

I am starting to panic. I am so unorganized for this trip . . . no FE yet. I normally would make one, but there won't be the time. I like the idea of a stocking . . . we'll see. I did order all the nephews and nieces Mickey t-shirts from Disneyshopping.com We will iron something smart onto the backs . . .They were $5 a piece, even for the adults. Hope they are nice. Still looking for things to put into a "welcome" basket for the rest of the family. Still need to order my shirts from Cafepress . . . maybe this weekend.

Welcome to the new families.

I received a call from Disney earlier this week, I had called because we had some confusion over booking the Wave Runner Excursion for everybody . . . we had problems booking two people together on a double that were in different rooms, and they would not let me reserve a double for me and my son because he is not 8 yet. But would be turning 8 on board the ship on the 24th. So they won't let him do the waverunner on the 21, but will let him on the 26th . . . crazy. And we could not get everyone at the same time, we were broken up into groups at 9, 10 and 12. But anyways the CM said she would continue looking at the schedule and see if she could move us all to one time. Well they were able to move the six doubles and one single to 9:00, but had to move one single and one double to 12:00. This is a huge improvement. The nieces and nephews are so thrilled they can go at the same time. Of course my DS won't be able to go until the 26th, but he can keep me and Grandpa company. So if anyone knows people on a double wave runner at 9:00 on the 21st, see if they are interested in switching wtih a family at 12:00!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone . . .DH took DS and DD to Grandma & Grandpas to help close the cabin today. They return on Sun. Kids are on school break for 2 days. With a new job, I didn't want to take off. Need to save those days for the cruise!!! It sure is weird without everyone in the house. I don't often get the place to myself.

Night.

I am having technical difficulties. I am unable to send pms, but I can respond. I am definately interested in the FE. I am craft challenged and can't sew a stitch. Please PM me.

Thanks!!!!

My sister from VA still can't get on the boards. she has a sign in but it keeps not letting her reply. She has e-mailed tech but gotten no response in 6 weeks!

She is a mom-professional quilter (mom first and quilter when time). She has just completed all of our fish extenders (we have 6 rooms!). If you need help or want to contact her for an extendar PM me :cool1:

This is Ginny, my sister, first cruise. He husband refused to go so she is taking her 4 kids and joining the rest of the extended family. son, 11, daughter, 9, daughter, 7, and son, 5 come December. She is so excited to to cruise and wants to join into everything!

Hey Everyone and welcome to the new families! I can't believe we're almost at the two month mark. Time is flying by!

Carly is already talking with Morgan, although their schedules don't jive very often. She would love to text with other 14-16 year old girls on the cruise. Carly turns 15 on Tuesday and loves to dance and sing. She's a kind, quiet teenager and it would be great if she already knew some girls before heading for the teen club the first time.

PM me if your girls are interested.
Thanks,
tenya

Does anyone know the best way to handle the life boat drill for someone who is in the 70s that cannot do stairs very well? (she has bad arthritis in her knees, she walks with a cane, and we are bringing a wheel chair for long walks but she is technically not disabled). I was hoping to be able to get her to the right deck before the no elevator status and bring her life jacket with the rest of us...Anyone know if that will work?

Also, is there a certain width that fish extenders should be? I whipped one up with out a pattern, guideline, or much thought, but now that I look at it and the ones I see online it looks like it might be too wide...

I don't see our name on the front page of this thread, is there a more current list of passengers so that I can get by FE presents bought.

Have a great weekend! I cannot wait for the cruise!!!!!

Welcome to our new cruisers!

I most likely have pages to catch up on, but will just do a quick pop in post for now. Things have been a bit crazy around here lately and it looks like we might actually be moving before the cruise. Not a long distance move, just an across town thing... but just as much work I'm afraid. :scared:
So if my Dis time is even more erratic than usual, don't count us out... we're still cruising!

Denise,

I think getting to the right deck early would probably be easiest. But CM's are available to assist anyone with mobility issues, and the elevators are running for those who really need them. I guess the up side to going that route is that in the unlikely event that you actually needed to get to your lifeboat station during the cruise, the CM's stationed on your floor would be aware of those who might need extra assistance.

That said, we're planning on parking grandma and grandpa near AP early so they won't have to deal with the crowds. Those aft stairways can get pretty crazy during the drill!

IIRC the FE in this picture is actually Diana's. :thumbsup2
But it shows what Dis folks are talking about when they mention fish extenders so well, I keep it bookmarked.

We have this same hanger. The fabric part is 7.75 inches across at the widest spot and the wooden dowel is 8.5 inches across. It's also about 26 inches long (from dowel to bottom) but you could easily go shorter or longer if you wanted.

It's actually Amy's but I have the same exact one. There are 4 or 5 of them on ebay now. If you search under Mickey hanging organizer, they'll come up.

Is there anyone out there with a DS who is around 8 years old and in the 3rd grade? He would love to meet a boy his age before we go.

BTW - the weather has changed here in Maryland. It rained today - but was still a nice afternoon. It was maybe 60 degrees here - and should be cool the rest of the weekend. A little warmer next week :goodvibes
I can't believe that it's the middle of October already!

Robin

Hi everyone! Welcome to all the new people! The weather here has finally cooled down and will hopefully stay that way. We were in the 80's earlier this week way to warm for the middle of October. Do we have an updated counted on people doing the FE exchange? I'm trying to figure out if i need to buy more or if we have enough. Can't believe there is only two months left. I'm so ready for this trip.

Lissa

We need to be added to the list on the first page. We want to participate in all of the activities FE, ornament exchange, secret santa and anything else. We are sooo excited.
