MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Welcome to everybody new! I'm Lissa I will be traveling with my mom and my brother all adults. this will only be ovu second cruise the first was the med cruise where we met Cindy D and her family. We were watching the national weather this morning andmy mom turned to me and jokingly said we were going to end up with a cruise to no where because of all the hurricanes. I had not thought of that before but I do wonder what they would do if the prots of call were damaged due to storms. On a more serious note those of ya'll in the project paths of the storm please stay safe and evacuate if necessary. Your welcome to come here to Asheville if needed.

Lissa

Hi-I'm Lisa as well. This will be our 3rd Disney Cruise - and first Christmas cruise. I will be traveling with my hubby, Mark; 2 of my daughters (ages 14 & 10) and my mother, Sandy (this will be her first disney cruise). I wish everyone a dry and safe weekend - although it looks like we are going to get it here tomorrow in the Philly area.

My sister from VA still can't get on the boards. she has a sign in but it keeps not letting her reply. She has e-mailed tech but gotten no response in 6 weeks!

She is a mom-professional quilter (mom first and quilter when time). She has just completed all of our fish extenders (we have 6 rooms!). If you need help or want to contact her for an extendar PM me :cool1:

This is Ginny, my sister, first cruise. He husband refused to go so she is taking her 4 kids and joining the rest of the extended family. son, 11, daughter, 9, daughter, 7, and son, 5 come December. She is so excited to to cruise and wants to join into everything!

I survived my first week...not that I haven't been teaching for 13 years but this year we have more kids than teachers so I gave up planning to teach a 1.2 schedule (for those that are not teachers it means 6 straight hours of classes without a break!) I teach 8th and 9th grade history and we have new text books this year so a whole new curriculum. I also coach badminton (gotta pay for my disney cruise and my freshman's PENN education) and teach student government.

Busy year. So far the kids are great...but give them a few weeks. Tired. Hope everyone had a great week too!

Is your sister tech saavy at all? I'm just trying to help - so I hope you/she aren't offended at my suggestions.

1. clear the cookies in her computer
2. empty the internet cache
3. check security settings

To clear cookies/temp files - go to tools on your browser bar, pull down to internet options, then general, browsing history the delete on temp internet files and delete on cookies.

Hopefully that will work

good luck

no offense taken. I will pass it on to her and continue to try to help I live in Washington and she lives in Virginia.

Thanks

Hey everyone!!! I've had a few free moments and went through my PMs and added all the new families that have PMd me onto our first page.

Also, i was thinking that I could add other things to that first page too, like any meets that we schedule, once we figure out t-shirts - that info, the ornament exchange and who's coordinating it, those types of things. So, if you are "heading up" any of those types of things, PM me, and I'll add them to the first post!!!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! It is still hovering around the 100 degree mark here in south Texas, and will be until October sometime!

I was wondering if anyone was interested in making "business cards" with our name and room info on them. On our last cruise, at our meet and greet, we all passed out our "business cards" to each other and it made it easier for the kids to find each other. We just put out names, state room numbers and some people even put their family picture on theirs (all in the size of a business card). All and all, I think we had maybe nine total (small DIS group) but it was great for the kids and looks good in my memory book!;)

Shannon

Shannon that sounds like a good idea. Something we could hand out at our initial meet and greet. We need to start a list with everyones stateroom number on it that way we don't have to search for fish extenders.

Well sort of off topic it is about DCL. It seems like some of the 2010 cruises will be in northern Europe. Some one found where they had applied for port permits. One of the cities was Oslo. We are excited about this because we were planning on taking another cruiseline to go somewhere in Europe in 2010. If this is true we can stick with DCL and the Magic YEAH!!!!

Lissa

This is our fourth Disney cruise....the first one was a five day cruise due to Hurricane Jeanine....Although it was shortened. it sold us on the Disney cruises. Like several others, this is our first Christmas cruise. We are anxious to see how Disney will decorate the ship for Christmas and if they have different activities/ menus due to the Holiday.

We are paid... $6000 in school gift cards... The lady that sells them for PTL about passed out when my DW ordered them.. The school got 9% of the $6000 for them to keep!

101 days Bring It!

So is anyone in a concierge suite or have the REAS package? I'm just curious if anyone was able to book their excursions and other things at 105 days last weekend. Mostly I'm wondering how our short time in Grand Cayman is going to affect the excursions offered and the times they're offered. I wish DCL would have the times listed on the excursions pages so it'd make planning easier instead of having to wait until the booking window opens.

Oh my - I sure hope that's the case because we'll certainly do that for our summer 2010 vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had a chance to read the boards in a few days because my grandmother passed away on Friday and we had the funeral yesterday. I'm off work today to catch up on things I didn't get done because of it -- I won't have time to really catch up on the DIS til later in the week though - but of course I had to check in on our Christmas cruise!

Cindy, sorry to hear about your grandmother. Our thoughts are with you.

Does anyone have suggestions for transportation from an airport hotel to the port? We're thinking about using a car service.

We're doing one way rentals. We really like the flexibility (had to make a mad dash to Walgreens to get a Rx filled the morning of the cruise last trip) plus that's always been the least expensive option for us.
We did use a limo service when the Magic docked in CA, and I'm sure that would be choice #1 if you asked the kids, but I just can't justify the price difference in FL.
I think DCL transfers sound convenient, and we might try them if it's ever just 2 or 3 of us, but they're just too expensive with a large group.

Last time we booked by ourselves, but with all of the changes we keep seeing on this trip and the short time period in Grand Cayman, I'm thinking we will book through the ship to be safe.

We usually book outside excursions too, but I'm with you when it comes to concern over the time frame on Grand Cayman. Hopefully DCL will offer something interesting.

Thanks to Cindy D for inviting me to join this thread. My DH and I are from the Uk and will be cruise no 7. We were due to be on the first cruise after dry dock but friends we met on the Panama WB in 2005 and who we then cruised with on Transatlantic EB in 2007 persuaded us to join them on this cruise, looking at the current weather conditions around the Bahamas I can't say I am too disappointed not to be sailing at the end of this month LOL :rotfl2:
I now need to read through the 52 pages of this thread to catch up on all you guys. I'm sure we'll meet some of you in December.

Hey, looks like we're cruisin' buddies, whether we knew it or not. ;)
We were on the Panama WB in 2005 too. :thumbsup2
Yes, it looks like avoiding the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season was a good move.

Have you had any takers on organizing events Amy?

If no one else has volunteered for the fish extender exchange yet, I'll do it... not because I particularly like heading up those kinds of things, but because I'd like to get an idea of how many folks are participating so I can start getting my stuff together.

Very cool info! I did the backpack across Europe thing as a college student (hate to say how many years ago that was) and although the Scandinavian countries were some of my favorites, I haven't been back to any of them. I could really enjoy a DCL trip there.

Boy, time is starting to fly. I can't believe we're entering the double digit countdown Christmas Cruisers!
Woo Hoo!

Yes we've booked all our excursions now, its most fun trying to work our what excursion will fit in with other events. If your after the timings for a specific excursion then I'll happily log in and check the times for you.

Cindy I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother :grouphug: .
According to what I read about 2010 somebody found where DCL was scheduled to be at certain ports during the summer. The two that were mentioned were Oslo and Copenhagen. Itineraries with a price range will be released on Oct 7th with booking begining Oct 21st. That would be great if it is true and we could manage to be on the same cruise as ya'll.

Lissa

I can't believe we are finally at the 100 day mark!@#**!:cool1: :cool1:

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I thoughts go out to you and your family.

Down here in the south of Texas, we are preparing for Hurricane Ike (it's heading straight for us here in McAllen). We just got over Hurricane Dolly and here we go again:sad2: . Rick and I are going to Walmart tonight to stock up on water and batteries, AGAIN! It is supposed to arrive here on Friday, so Rick will board up the house on Thursday. I will be glad when hurricane season is over!

Has anyone given any thoughts to the "family business card" idea to pass out at our initial meet and greet? It's fun to pass out and collect, especially for the kids!

Well, got to go and shop now! It's my only day off in 11 days, so I have lots to do in that one day!

Take care everyone; it's getting CLOSE!!:cool1:
