MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

well shannon, here you go again. hope ya'll get through this one as well as the last one, although it looks like this one is worse and may not be as much of a glancing blow. but it looks like we may be getting some much needed rain out of ike, timing could be better as i'll be working at the stadium this weekend for mon night football.

glad that your son liked the camp, sorry about your lake cypress experience. we like that area, usually camp at lake bob sandlin sp. but austin will probably more to your liking. we love camping in the hill country. if you need any ideas for things to do let me know. i think that the texas white house at lbj ranch will be open for tours by then.

good luck to ya'll this weekend.

quick cruise related question, i have been reading a thread about cruising with birth certs instead of passports. there was mention of bcs with raised seal, dw's bc from state of maine does not have the raised seal, even though issued by the state. does anyone have an idea if we should look into replacing it or not?

Yes, this has been quite the year for those pesky Atlantic storms.
Stay safe!

Phil,
My birth certificate doesn't have a raised seal either, but it does say that it is an official state document and it has a special watermark.
If in doubt you might have to call a vital stats office in Maine and find out what distinguishes an official birth certificate there.
It would be nice if there was a bit more consistency across the US.
:confused3

Yes we've booked all our excursions now, its most fun trying to work our what excursion will fit in with other events. If your after the timings for a specific excursion then I'll happily log in and check the times for you.

Hi
Here goes

Cozumel

Atlantis Sub 9:20am & 1pm

Grand Cayman

Atlantis Sub 10am-11:30pm and 12:30pm-2pm
Island Tour & Butterfly Farm 12:15pm-4-15pm
Seaworld Semi-Sub 9:30am-11:40am & 1PM-3:10pm
Boatswains 9:30am - 3:15pm

We're booked on the Island Tour, and it will not let you book the Atlantis Sub at 10am, as they are obviously allowing an overrun on the excursions.

I've given you the Cozumel atlantis sub timings just in case you needed these.

Paul

Wow, so does that mean that we're going to be at Grand Cayman longer, because I thought that originally we were only there from 11-4pm (or something like that).

Cindy D.-Our prayers are with you and your family. So sorry for your loss.

Shannon-You and everyone in Texas are in our prayers. Hopefully Ike will not be that bad.

Excursion Question-
Most of you have been on a Disney Cruise before so you get to make your excursion reservations earlier than I do. Do I have any hope of getting an excursion at the 75 day mark?
Also, how exactly does it work? Once we are paid I can log on to Disney and the excursions list will come up? Can you log on at Midnight and which night would that be? Any help would be appreciated.

Angie

Good morning! Do you have the times for the Stingray City and the Dolphin (Cozumel) excursions as well? That sounded like fun as well. We did the stingrays at Castaway Cay last time and enjoyed it. Thanks.

Thanks so much! Weird that they have some scheduled before 11 a.m. as that's the all ashore time that shows up when I log in to my reservation.

When I log in to my reservation it shows us in GC from 11-4:30, so I'm confused about those excursion times earlier than 11.

Yes, you can log in at midnight EST, although I've read of people having problems sometimes and having to log in and out a few times before being able to book anything. Your 75 day mark is Oct. 6. I have no idea how popular some of the excursions will be and whether they'll fill before then, but I believe DCL holds some spots for booking on board if you don't get what you want. HTH. Oh, here's the calculator for figuring when you can book things:

Thank you all for your kind, sweet words about the passing of my grandmother.

Lissa - I'm marking October 7th on my calendar to check itineraries. I just called DH to tell him about it and he's like OH YEAH! (start saving your money now).

Paul - thanks for posting the excursion times ... can you post what excursions they are offering for Cozumel? That's the port we have to figure out.

Sea Trek Helmet Dive and Pearl Farm CozumelWater SportsActive10 And UpAdult:$95
Child :N/A(CZ-44)
Sea Trek is helmet diving. It's the easiest and most comfortable way to explore underwater and is as simple as walking and breathing. A space age helmet sits comfortably on your shoulders while a continuous flow of air allows breathing with ease.

Begin your unique experience with a brief 5-minute taxi ride to the Pearl Farm. Upon arrival, learn the history and of pearl farming in Mexico including the use of the Rainbow lipped Pearl oyster. Discover the myth behind the "grain of sand theory" as to how pearls are formed and harvested.

Next, receive a safety briefing about helmet diving. Using the space-age Sea Trek technology allows even non-swimmers to experience the beauty of the underwater world and get a "fish-eye" view of a real pearl farm. The staff will stay with you every step of the way, as you view beautiful tropical fish and the largest experimental pearl farm in the entire Caribbean! Your hair doesn't get wet and you can even wear prescription glasses as you climb down a ladder to a maximum depth of 20 feet. After approximately 25 minutes underwater, you may choose to enjoy some snorkeling before taking the 5-minute ride back to the pier.

Snuba Cozumel CozumelWater SportsActive10 And UpAdult:$69
Child :N/A(CZ-45)
Ready for the next challenge beyond snorkeling? Snuba allows you to take that next step without being a certified scuba diver!

Cozumel is renowned for its stunning turquoise waters and Snuba is the perfect way to get an up close look below the surface at a myriad of brilliant colors that surround you in this incredible underwater world. Snuba is a method of underwater swimming in which the swimmer uses fins, diving mask, weights and breathing apparatus commonly used in scuba diving, but the air tanks which are usually strapped to the back are instead laid horizontally in 5'-long rubber pontoon rafts that remain on the water's surface. A certified dive master leads the group during this unique adventure.

After a safety briefing and demonstration, your dive master will take you into shallow water where you'll be able to practice your skills and build your confidence. Once you're ready, you'll proceed out to deeper water and dive down to depths of approximately 15-20 feet where you'll find tropical fish, including angel and parrotfish, and brilliant coral formations. After approximately 25 minutes underwater, gradually swim to the surface before taking a moment to view the underwater photos taken of you during your exploration. Finally, sit back and relax during the 5-minute taxi ride back to the pier.

On which page do you find the times that you can get off the ship.

I have looked at my cruise plans and my reservation and it only shows the days and no times. I have sent an email to the concierge staff to confirm the times for me.

Concierge have replied to me, and yes we are only at Grand Cayman from 11am - 4:30pm. Even though the excursions are being displayed for earlier times they will show has having a conflict and so are not bookable.

As we've booked the Island Tour and butterfly farm, we're going to get no time for shopping now :sad1:

Sorry, I just saw your post. I didn't find the port times under my reservation, it was on this page:

http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/d...?name=7NightWesternCaribbeanCruiseLandingPage

That's a bummer about your excursion and no time for shopping. I wish we had more time in port.

One of the reasons we're looking forward to a return to Grand Cayman is that when we sailed in 2005, we did an Island Tour (that went to the Turtle farm, Hell, and Stingray City) but we didn't take the time to do any shopping or poking around in the port area and in hindsight wish we had returned to shore after lunch. We will likely leave the boys on board while we go into the port unless they just particularly want to go into port with us since they have been before.

I cannot believe we're under 100 days FINALLY!

Soooo, not to sound like a grump, but it seems like the thing that is special about this "special" itinerary is...what? We only get half a day when all the other itineraries get a whole day at Grand Cayman? I imagine they did the best they could with the change, but it does seem a little unfortunate. :confused3

Thanks to everyone who has posted information. It's really coming up quickly now!

You could do a car service or see about DCL transfers. I know that buses run from the airport to the Port leaving relatively early (like 9 a.m. and continuing through the day).

Thanks for the responses. How does the baggage work if you take the DCL transfer from the airport? Do we need to load it on the bus and unload it at the port? Does the DCL bus do that for us (kind of like Magical Express)? We were planning on staying at a hotel near the airport.
