MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Amy - I just PM'ed you.

We've had cooler weather here, too. This will make the warmer weather of the Caribbean so much nicer come December!

Here's a question: we have bought and plan to bring Christmas lights to hang in out staterooms. How do we string them up? I know no nails and/or tacks, so how do we secure them to the walls doors? I know there is probably some trick that I am not thinking of?:confused3

Shannon,
What about those Command removeable hooks from 3M? I was planning of bringing them with to hang up our stockings. I have a package of 2 medium hooks at home right now but I imagine they probably have smaller ones, too.

As far as spa treatments go, we were thinking of massages, too while on board. We've done what they used to call the Surial Bath and now I believe it's called the Rasul Bath. They put the two of you in a large steam room/shower with a large bowl of different scrubs, muds and salts. It's a do it yourself treatment. You get a certain amount of time, I think it was an hour and they knock on the door when's there's about 20 minutes left to let you know. Won't say much more than that but we would do it again

Make sure to bring an extension cord and a power-strip so you can plug them in a bit easier. Where the outlets are is tight - we've found if we're trying to charge the camera, the plug is too big so it covers up the other outlets. I think I'm packing a power-strip this time.

Regarding trip reports - I will likely have my laptop for downloading pics anyway, so I'll write my report as we go but probably won't do a "live from" just to save the internet costs. For our first two DCL's, I kept a notebook to write things down, but in April, I had the laptop anyway (needed it to work while at WDW a few days prior), so I just made a word document to go ahead and do my trip report as we went along. Made it so much easier to post when we got home. I found I had time every day to work on it because I could do it while off-loading pics from the camera. I loved being able to off-load the pics because then I didn't have to worry about running about of space. And I could do each day individually which made it easier when we got home, too.

Good morning. I clicked on the link for the T-shirts and I agree - they look great. I see two designs though...one with a wreath and one with a ship.....are they both ours? Thanks!

:cool1:

While we have a couple of trips between now and cruise time, I wanted to start thinking about what we want to take with us for the cruise that we don't normally pack for travel.

So what are some things you have on your packing list (written down or in your head) that aren't your usual packing items?

So far I have the over-the-door-shoe-holder, a magnetic dry-erase board, small christmas tree...

The wreath is the front design and the ship photo is the back design. Some shirts offer both a front/back design, some just a front.

Amy i just sent you a PM about paypal.

As for a packing list I actually have not given it much thought yet. I know we will be taking a small tree and some other christmas decorations. Right now I'm taking a break from packing. Mom and I leave tomorrow headed to Alabama. My grandfatehr is sick and in the hospital so we are going to check on him.

Lissa

Lissa - have a safe trip -- I hope your grandfather is ok. I imagine having you and your mom visit will cheer him up.

Amy - I paypalled you.

Lissa- I hope all goes well with your grandfather! Have a safe trip!

Does anyone know if the suction cups adhere to the walls or only windows? We have inside staterooms, therefore no windows. I want to be able to string the lights up on the walls somehow without nails, tacks, and/or tape. I am afraid that suction cups won't stay adhered to the wall or hold the weight of the lights.:confused3 Anyone have any experience with this? I have tried to use suction cups at home for other things and find that they do not stick to the wall.:sad1:

Shannon

Another question: Do the stateroom doors leave enough room at the top for a wreath hanger to fit over the door? I would love to hang a wreath outside our doors, but know if they fit too tight? I want to be in as much of the Christmas spirit as I possibly can be!!:santa:

I don't know about the suction cups, because I've never tried them, but those command hooks are awesome!!! We used them last Christmas around the house for all kinds of decorations, and they worked awesome!! And, just like the commercial says, easy removal!!!

I don't recall exactly, but something tells me that there's a lip or ridge around the door, so I don't think that the wreath hanger would work!!! I know that Diana and I were going to be making mickey head wreaths for our doors, but again, you could try one of the larger command hooks for a wreath on the door.

I think Amy is right that there isn't enough room for a hanger over the door to the stateroom. They seal pretty tightly at the top.

Okay, it sounds like these 3M Command hooks are the way to go. Now the big question is, where do I get them?:lmao:

Good morning, Shannon!! I bought mine at Target last year, so I'm guessing that you can find them at any of those types of retailers (Walmart, K-mart, etc).

In Walmart they are in the hardware section with the hooks and suction cups....you'll also find some in the bathroom section usually.

After Christmas last year, they had a display in my Walmart of just the strips (no hooks). There were 10 strips in a pack. I have some hooks, but I've found with our textured walls, posters don't hold well, and these do the job perfectly. So I scanned the package to see how much they were and they were--- 7 CENTS a pack!! I literally bought the entire display, about 25 packages. :lmao: I use them all the time to hold anything and everything on all sorts of surfaces.

Thanks a lot girls!!! I am on my way out the door NOW!!! I will pick up some of the hooks AND the strips!

We were about to drop off the first page of the Meet thread - so consider this a Bump -- we're too close to sailing to get lost on later pages.
