Wondering if anyone can explain what the deal is between the regular $8 pp discount vs the $13 pp Magical Beginnings Credit discount (other than the obvious $5pp...). I just got my new DVC info package in the mail today and I'm trying to get my "coles notes" made up to present to dh tomorrow so we can "discuss". Are both of these only available if we finance through Disney?

Thanks for your help.

I thought the Magical Beginnings credit expired a couple of years ago.

I just got the new package in the mail today and it is listed on the financing information insert with the new 2006 pricing ($101pp), so I'm pretty sure this is current.

If you're talking about the slip of paper in the back of the info. packet, it depends on points purchased.
If you give up your '06 points, you will get the $13 discount off each point purchased. If you want to keep this year's '06 points then you only get the $8 off per point. I believe this is how it works. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My Guide has confirmed this is a current incentive.

i looked at that when i was weighing my decision, and ultimately, came to the decision that i would rather bank the points (or use them in my case) instead of saving an extra 1250 ($5 x 250). if you buy 150 points, youre saving less than that, and to be honest, with the rate of the rooms that youre passing up, you get a better deal if you go ahead and get the saratoga savings package and actually use or bank your points for this year. just my two cents though.

I agree - when we bought the first contract in 1997 there was some type of buy back of the points we would have used if we had stayed on points instead of staying at PO - it amounted to about $400- at first we took it but then called and asked them to add the points back in and charge the extra.(this was within 3 days of returning home). It was well worth saving those points when we stayed in a GV at OKW the following year which would not have been possible without them. :cool1: :)

Point costs are advertised at $101/point at SSR.

Disney has their $8/point incentive making it $93/point.

I think they are still offering the Magical Beginnings to new members (they did us June '06 visit). Magical beginnings lets you sell back your first year's use points for an additional $5/point credit, making the final price $88/point.

Last we were told, they are still selling Dec use year with all '05, unless you trade them in for magical beginings.

DVC also has February and March use years for sale with all '06 points, again unless you trade them in.

They may be charging closing fees which look like approx. $219 per contract, regardless of how many points you buy. However, if you decide to split your points up onto different contacts (so you could sell some of your points down teh road if you don't need all of them), there is the closing fee for each contract.

i dont think thats completely right. we bought 250 points this week, 150 and 100 (thanks to suggestion from this board), but we only paid a closing cost on the original 150. the second contract, and any contract from here forward will not be charged a closing cost, unless the regulations change

I agree with this! One of the reasons buying BWV from Disney was so attractive was that it was loaded with all the 05-06 points, even though I knew that I would bank them because we bought right after we returned from our yearly visit to WDW.
