I've read a few threads where people have mentioned getting these from CMs. I am wondering what your experiences have been for those who did - how did you get it? Why? Did everyone in the party get one? Etc.

These are generally offered in guest recovery situations. There's not much you can do on your own to get them.

Back in HS when they wrote the wait times on the board in chalk. I was there with 5 other people standing at the board because they were erasing and writing up the new wait times. There was a couple there also waiting next to us. As the CM wrote up the time for Toy Story, they wrote "5" and moved on to write the time for another ride. The previous wait time for TSMM was like 60 minutes, so being shocked by seeing "5 min", I was about to ask..but just then the couple next to us, the girlfriend said "so Toy Story is only 5 min?". The CM turned and smiled and playfully said "oops, seems like I forgot to finish that" and then wrote a "6", making it "65 minutes". Then the CM said to the couple next to us "since you pointed that out, would you like some fastpasses for the ride?". They of course agreed, so the CM then asked how many passes they needed. I really wanted to scream "take us with you" lol as a few people in our group had never been on TSMM, and two in our group were there for the first time.

So we were staring at the couple and they looked over at us and said "hey, you guys want to ride it too"..we immediately said yes. They told the CM to give our group some FP's too and we all went and rode it.

That was the only time I've received the free FP's they can give it.
It was pretty awesome

Got a couple sets for being Family of the Day in the Magic Kingdom once and another guest gave me a set he wasn't going to use on another occasion. He got them for being stuck on Big Thunder Mountain.

I agree with mesa, they are most often given out to assuage an inconvenience a guest often experiences. I personally think they should be given out if you get stuck in a boatjam on Small World and have to listen to that song entirely too many times. :rotfl2:

In March we were given two at AK (each good for 4 people) because we had trouble getting our MBs to work, and lost 30 minutes of RD time sorting it out. GR assured us the problem was on their end, and not our fault, so they felt really bad that it took so long to fix, especially since we got there early for RD.

They were each a single slip of paper that said 4 people, and we were able to use it at EE to do a rider swap. It definitely helped calm down my furious DH when they gave it to us. But while they came in handy, I would much rather have just had things go as planned.

I will really only "hope" for something to go wrong if I don't get our A&E FP at 60 days out.

Actually I forgot to mention, the ones we were given said they were not good for character experiences or shows, only rides. Not sure if they are all the same though. It was a bummer because one of the things we were going to do RD was meeting Mickey, by the time we were done the line was too long, so we never ended up doing it :(

But otherwise that would be a great time for something to go wrong, lol!

We were given two good for four people each due to having some trouble with outer tickets and having to spend some time with guest relations. It was about 8:00pm when we got them, we were already holding fast passes for the princesses for within the hour and we had reservations for the wishes dessert party that night, so we didn't get to use them. I was still glad for the pixie dust and planned to keep them as a souvenir. However, the next day we had trouble with our car and had to go to a mechanic, which caused us to miss several hours in the park. My kids were so disappointed, so I went back into guest relations and explained what had happened and asked if there was anyway we could replace one of them for that date. The CM smiled, walked away, and returned with three more!

That's great! (The fact that they gave you more, not the car issues). Do you remember if they were valid on M&Gs too?

This was last year pre FP+. The CM said they were good for any attraction with a fast pass line. We first tried to use them for ETWB, but couldn't because there was no FP there yet. I think we probably could have used them for the princesses or Mickey, but we'd already met them so we used them on Peter Pan, Buzz, and Space Mountain.

We got a few on our 2013 trip. We were there just as the transition to RFID was going on. We still had KTTW cards but the Mickey head scanners were active. We were supposed to be able to pass our card in front of the head and get in. In an 8 day trip, it never worked for us 1 time. We had to have a supervisor scan our KTTW cards to they registered as admitted to the park. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to pull FP (legacy) with them. Well, a couple days one of the cards wasn't scanned in right (I think the supervisor skipped one of them) so it wouldn't pull a FP. First time it happened we were at Town Hall got sent to guest services and they had to reissue my KTTW card. Got an anytime FP from that. Another time we were at a machine near Small World and found out one of the cards wouldn't pull a FP. There was a supervisor near there and when they heard the issue they put us on the ride and we were given an anytime FP. Seems like we got another one that trip too.

Also forgot to mention that in addition to the anytime fast passes we were given, we were also given two of the master fast pass cards that the CMs used to pull passes from the legacy machines due to our cards not working properly. I tried to turn them in to guest services when we got our cards fixed, but was told to just keep them and use them to pull extra fast passes! I didn't do it because I felt like we'd already been pixie dusted so much, but I was truly amazed. The fast passes were plentiful on our trip ;)

I had a whole week's worth of them! It was fine, but it didn't make up for our issues. We appreciated the gesture, don't get me wrong, but it came at the expense of them "losing" all of our FP+ for the entire week along with every other aspect of anything involving the magic band not working. If it was just my family, it might have been great, but we were traveling with extended family. We weren't able to use MDE at all, so we spent the whole week trying to find out where they were and the times on their FP so we could join them. We got them instead of our FP+ that we were entitled to (so 3 per person per day), so they weren't extra, and they came at the expense of having to stand in guest relations lines for over 16 hours in 2 days to fix magic band issues. We completely lost 2 days of our vacation, lost all of our pre booked FP+, were locked out of our room, couldn't use our dining plan, couldn't charge, couldn't use our park tickets, etc. (essentially we couldn't even feed our kids for an entire day: no cash on hand because planning to charge, no dining credits, couldn't get into a park, couldn't get into our hotel room to get cash or credit card). I would have gladly given them back and had things go smoothly...but we did get to see A&E! (I had obtained FP+ at the last minute anyway, though, so we would have seen them anyway, but we didn't have a set time which was really nice!)

Ugh, that sounds awful! Our ticket issue only took about an hour to get resolved (pre Magic Bands), so I was just happy for the experience. I imagine I would have felt quite differently in your shoes, as no amount of fast passes could make up for 16 lost hours. So sorry you had to go through that!

Yikes...THAT I wouldn't want. Our trip is far too short to lose that much time. I would be furious. Can't say the magic FPs would even make up for it. Sorry you had to deal with that headache!!!

It took three CMs and 45 minutes to upgrade my tickets to DVCAPs on Thanksgiving-- making us 10 minutes late to a dinner reservation.

I was tickled to get back on TSMM.

Well, this was for FP- and it was in DL in California. We got stuck on Splash Mountain for about 30 minutes and after being evacuated they gave everyone in the log an anytime any attraction FP. Out of earshot of the other guests, we mentioned that we used a FP to get onto the stuck ride and the CM gave us another.

We got them for our party pre fast pass+ when we kept having issues with our tickets entering the park. They were good for any ride with fast pass anytime that day.

We also got them a few weeks ago because we had issues with MDE not recognizing our last day of our park hopper passes. The system wouldn't let us make fast pass reservations and the cast member gave us 3 fast passes each good for any ride anytime the last day of our trip. :thumbsup2
