Has anybody heard that with the MYW tickets costing less to stay longer that room discounts will be done away with?

I know a lady who works for the Disney Store as a part time job and she said now that they have been bought out she is starting to hear a lot. I cannot get her to confirm anything for me, however. :charac2:

Room discounts are offered to fill vacant rooms, plain and simple. If they need to fill the rooms, they will offer room discounts.

Meow! My apologies for asking. :guilty:

Sorry if you thought I was being catty... I just don't see why people are worrying about the possibility of rooms not being discounted, just because the tickets are for longer stays. I don't see what one has to do with the other.

I spoke with our travle agent of Small World Vacations the other day about this Magic Your Way and she said she thought there were going to be much fewer room discounts available! I hope this is not true!!

Really, why would WDW not offer ANY room discounts--either room only or as part of the packages? Since anyone can buy the MYW tickets at the-longer-you-stay-the-less-you-pay rates, people would be more likely to stay off-site if the room portion of the packages was ABOVE rack rate. I figured the Dining Option would save us $20-$30 a day...but if I'm paying an extra $98 per night (for WL), why would I stay there?

JMHO!!

Disney packages have never been a good deal so why would they start now? Before you got a discounted room but the package stuff was the same high price. So they are just swiching everything around ,giving you a good ticket deal and meal deal but charging you rack rate for your room. Same thing, just discounts on different parts of the package. I am sure the bottom line will be about the same deal. I think they are inticing people to get a vacation package with the meal deal. If you want the meal deal you have to get a package that will be with a non discounted room.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. :D

On another note....Do we know yet where these dining options will allow us to dine for a sit-down meal? That would really make the difference on how good of a deal it really is. I don't eat $30 worth of food in 2-days, so getting a $7 counter-meal at Pecos Bill's, $4 Mickey Bar and $20 sit-down meal would break me about even in WDW. I don't think I would be interested in a meal option. However I think that if the restaurant options are good with lots of choices, then it would be worth it.

that would be a bad thing for any hotel to do.....
I know!!! But, WDW's website says that the Deluxe package starts at $2500. Once I took out the ticket prices for 2 adults and 2 children, the balance worked out to $297 per nt.---$98 more PER NIGHT than the rack rate (at WL). So, I've been asking,"What's going on???" I mean, even though current packages aren't a great deal for most of us, this would be insane to charge that much for rooms and expect people to make reservations. The Dining Option wouldn't make upi that kind of gap.

I just have to say, if there are no discounts for my June visit, I am glad I am locked in at the price it was when I put down my deposit. Just incase the room prices get raised, I have the nice 8.5x11 that guarantees my room rate.

I'm pretty (very) sure that the room rates are set for 2005. If you booked room only it won't be a problem. It's just the packages for new 2005 bookings that are changing. If you booked a package you can change it to the new kind in Jan/Feb, otherwise you'll keep what you have.

Actually, I called Disney to ask questions. It does stay the same.

Sorry to say, but we know much more on these boards than the people at 1-407-WDISNEY! Those people are clueless. I was about to tell the girl...here, let me explain how this new deal works. Geesh!!!

Yep, I agree...Called WDW to ask about a res for carriage /sleigh rides and had to tell the gal at Disney where the sleigh rides WERE and when they started etc.

Then, I switched to res number to add a preference for room number at AKL.
The guy noted it, was very sweet, but asked why I had listed that particular preference (a series of both odd or even numbered rooms which would get us closer to the safari feeding station) cause he hadn't even been to the AK resort complex. Yoi!

I think we all have to remember that the people on the phones arent' getting paid all that much per hour, and I suppose with all the changes, it IS hard to keep up!

RE: raising prices of hotel rooms. I'm a Disney Stockholder and wrote to Eisner when he first came on board and suddenly Disney was nickel and diming people to death. (Remember when strollers were just a $2 deposit that you got back at the end of the day and ballons were a buck?).
I wrote that for many people, just buying the tickets (and staying in an el cheapo Kissimmee motel) was about all they could afford....and that it seemed unfair to have balloons and extra charges for strollers and $$$food in the parks. I said that we were able to afford to stay at the Poly (well, at least back then!) and raising rates on the hotels just meant that if you couldn't afford it,you stayed elsewhere. My point was to get Disney to keep prices low once people bought that ticket to get through the gate.

The resonse was typical BUT I was told that Eisner decided that he would keep raising rates of the hotel rooms until they were booked up 90 days in advance (at the time it was over a YEAR for a lagoon front res at the Poly)....so he was letting demand create the price. As someone above stated: when the hotels on site are fairly booked, prices rise and when they are empty, prices drop. Remember when we all started seeing the little signs discretely posted around the Kingdom that said: 'on site accomodations are available now, please call'....I did and actually 'bargained' the price of my room!!!!!

Sorry for the long post.....To sum: try to be flexible with your stay dates to take advantage of low occupancy seasons and I'm sure there will be discounts for as long as there are vacant rooms! We've scored a pretty healthy Florida discount rate for a savannah room at AKL this trip. And back when I first called for Dec 10-13, I could have gotten Port Orleans for $79...a good rate IMHO.

Good Luck!
