Someone posted in a recent thread that a CM told them the Magic and Wonder would be switching routes in 2003.

Does anyone know if there's any truth to this... or just more rumors?

I heard the same thing from our server when I was on the Magic last month.

He said that after drydock in September 2003, The Magic and Wonder were switching routes.

I was told by a Spa employee on the Wonder that they would be doing 7 day cruises next year. I didn't get why and what would happen to the Magic. If there is a scheduled dry dock outage, maybe the Wonder will do the Magic route during that period. To me, it really doesn't matter, anyway. The ships are nearly identical.

And this switch is suppose to happen in Septmeber?
Just wondering if my May cruise is still scheduled to be on the Wonder.

WOW! We did the eastern 7 day last year and loved the Magic. We are scheduled for 12/06/03 7 day western and would love to see the other ship - Especially the decor in Tritons and the Ariel Statue. Little Mermaid is my dd's favorite movie/princess and would love it! Are the lights in Parrot Cay still Sebation on the Wonder?

This would make me sad, only because we have gotten to know the crew of the Wonder so well that it is almost like a second "home" to us. We had a great time on the Magic doing the Western itinerary, but it felt different. Oh well, back in the old days when the Magic sailed on Fridays for the 3 day, that was our familiar ship and we had to adapt to the Wonder. I guess we could adapt back if we had to! But of course there is another reason why I prefer the Wonder...on that ship, stateroom 5650 has my favorite picture hanging over the bed, but it's a different picture on the Magic.

I think I must be in the minority but I prefer the Magic! Just liked the decor better. The only thing I prefer on the Wonder is Route 66... it's a little nicer than Beatstreet.

I think it'd be a great idea. It would give people who usually do the 7 day a chance to see the Wonder and people who usually do the 3 or 4 days a chance to see the Magic. I've never been on the Wonder, but it works out better for us to take 7 day cruises, so this would be my chance. :)

Our documents for next October right after drydock state that we will be on the Magic for our 7 day Western Caribbean.

I am booked on the 7 day Western in January of 2004 and my confirmation receipt says it's on the Magic.

My guess is they will NOT be switching routes. However, as for documents stating the named ship, be advised that DCL's "fine print" in the "final" cruise documents states that they can even substitute a non-Disney ship IF necessary, so the fact that paperwork says you are scheduled for the Magic or Wonder is "always subject to change" (but highly unlikely and to my knowledge has never been done by DCL!)

The only time that the wonder and magic will switch is while the magic is in drydock. When the wonder went into drydock the magic came off of the seven day and went on 3 and 4 days. Once the magic comes out of drydock things will be just like they are now.

They haven't posted any cruises during the scheduled dry dock in September 2004. We always take our twins on the cruise for their birthday and right now there is nothing scheduled for the week of their birthday in September 2004.

So we are hoping they offer some sort of cruise that month! I wish they would just made a decision about their 2004 schedules after April for the Magic. Just so we would know one way or another. But then I have never been known for my patience  .

i wonder which ship they'll send to europe for summer 2004 if they finally decide to do that...
and whether the ship left behind will do 7 day cruises or 3/4.....

We were told by several CM's this week that Disney is in the process of building a new ship, and have been for a while. Also that there will be a DVC cruise in the summer of 2004 to try the Mediterrean route.

Both look like form letters . . .

Thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately, as you know, the dates you requested are not yet available
in our
reservation system for the Disney Magic. We're currently accepting reservations
through April 2004. Typically, reservations become available approximately
two
years in advance when our new year's rates are determined. Please contact
your
local travel agent or our reservations department at 407-566-7000 or
1-800-511-1333 for further assistance.

We look forward to the chance to sail with you.

Sincerely,

Tracey, Guest Communications

Thanks for your response. Along the lines of what you told me, when will
the
bookings for the 7 day cruises be available for summer & fall of 2004? The
3 &
4 day Wonder sailings are already listed.

I remember reading the letter once before when you posted it and I told the CM about it and they said that it was within the last couple weeks that they were all informed that a new ship was being built. I did hear it form a couple CM's but until they announce it I guess we won't know for sure. Not sure why it would be a secret.

I don't actually believe the message (at least I hope it's not true!) but there is no way that DCL could have started the actual construction of a new ship - design work yes but none of the major shipyards have them pending even on their schedules yet. Chances are, preliminary plans are done, secondary plans started & negotiations are in progress for construction. I did read, at rec.travel.cruises I believe, that they were readying for an announcement in February.

I did hear from a crew member that a new ship was being built also.

I guess time will tell on this one.
