Our cruise ended a week ago. I think DH is grateful a week has finally passed. He may be a little tired of hearing me say "A week ago this time we were on Deck 4" Or "this time last week we were having dinner at Palo's". My last comment was a few hours ago when I announced "This time last week we were having our last breakfast on board". I heard a sigh of relief so I guess I must have "last weeked" him to death.
Oh Well - so I don't let go easily.
I also discoverd I'm allergic to land. I had no trouble at all finding my sea legs. We even had some windy weather and 20 foot swells - It was fun - I loved it. Once we got back I had a real problem finding my land legs. Maybe it's all part of the letting go thing.
Now that I have to face the fact that the cruise is over, it's time for a trip report.
We are empty nesters so DH and I are the only cast of characters.
Day One (Two weeks ago today) HA
We were early and were told to wait in the parking lot until the gates opened. It was refreshing to see that there were people just as eager as we alreading waiting in the lot. It is wonderful to share the world with people just as Disney crazed as we are. My family and some friends just don't get it.
The check in process was smooth - the only advise I can give is to have all your paper work ready and the coupons out of the book when you are checking in. Have that and your ID ready and no one gets hurt. They are very serious about this. It really does help the check in to go faster!!!
We boarded about noon and went right to Rockin D - made Palos reservations for dinner, high tea (Ha my DH loved that idea) and brunch. Feeling pretty smug about being able to get the reservations we wanted, we strutted up to Topsiders and enjoyed the brunch buffet. We have sailed the 4-night twice before, so we knew how great the shrimp are. Full of shrimp and a ship for a week - does it get any better?
We went to our cabin - unpacked the suitcases that had arrived. We had to wait for one - no big deal. We sat on the verandah and got into loving life. We saw a manatee and dolphins - This cruise was starting out perfectly.
The only part I dislike and I know it is necessary is the Assembly Drill. If you are outside (as we were) it gets hot. I feel for people who are clastrophobic - I felt a twinge so I'm sure it must be awful for some. I made a few new best friends as we were packed together so close, I could tell what they had to eat at the buffet. I also have advise for this experience. I am sensitive to smells. I'm usually not a squeemish person. The reality that alot of people have worn and perspired in the very preserver I am wearing does bother me. I don't know how often they are cleaned. Probably information better not known. Bring Fabreze or something similar and spray the preserver 1/2 an hour or so before the drill. It helped me. A small thing but to me it really mattered.
We watched the Sail Away Party from Deck 10. This worked great for us - we could see and hear everying and were still able to blow the bubbles we brought out to sea.
Our first dinner was at Lumiere's. This to me is the most beautiful dining room so I was happy. DH had escargot for an appetizer, escargot for a soup/salad and escargot to go with his entree which was duck. He was in heaven. I had the shrimp medley, orange/mango soup and the Sea Bass. Oh la la - I too was in heaven. Did I mention we had this dinner two weeks ago today?
The Welcome Aboard show was great. I do not like magic acts, but I have to admit DV8 were very good. John Charles was a riot. We really enjoyed the show.
We sat out on the verandah into the wee hours and just relaxed. We are having some difficulties in life at the moment. We all go through things and I have faith all will be fine. It was just wonderful to escape - live up to my slogan "visits the land of denial." What better place to deny - deny - deny.
Day 2 can be found: (that's if I follow directions right????)
