Magic passenger dies on dive excursion

This guy was on another forum that I have frequented for a very long time. Used to play COD with him online he will be missed. Very sad and feel really bad for his family.

Very sad.. Praying for the family.

We were on this cruise and had no clue that anything at all happened. Prayers for the family.

We were also on this cruise and there was no indication that anything had happened. Very sad.

There is no reason it SHOULD have been mentioned. The only people directly involved would be him and his family, and they are the only ones who NEED to know about it. If they had tablemates, perhaps the tablemates were told why they were not coming back - but odds are in more of a "they had to leave the cruise" than a "he died" kind of way.

There is stuff that happens all the time on ships - just like in non-vacation life - that only those involved know about and that frankly is none of our business and an announcement would be in super bad taste.

Many years ago on a Magic cruise we were on there was a death on an excursion in Key West. My dad and BIL were on the same excursion. Poor man had a heart attack.

Just last year on the transatlantic cruise (again on the Magic) someone passed away at the table next to us during lunch in Lumiere's. Very sad.

We were on the cruise as well. We were so shocked and saddened to hear the news. On our cruise FB page another person had went on a dive with him at an earlier port-they were dive partners. He said he was experienced but hadn't went on a dive in a long time and was rusty and nervous, but got back into the groove. He was from NY and had his wife, teenage son, & two year old on board. Our group is trying to find a way to setup a go fund me account for them, but it's been hard to get details. (understandable so)

that's sad ... this is why dive operations ask how long it has been since your last dive and typically offer 'refresher classes' ..... sorry for the loss but sounds like it might have been avoidable .....

I decided to join this forum as many were in wonder as to what might of happened. The following is a link to the coroner's report on COD.

Very sad and appears to be a "natural causes" death. Prayers to family and friends. Diving, while dangerous, is a manageable sport. More often than not, fatalities occur on vacation with the diver not a frequent diver. A lot of these incidents also have a lot to do with physical conditioning and/or age. Diving is very taxing on the body and can exacerbate some conditions that are already present. What I think people that are interested in diving should take away is that they should learn the dangers, understand the physical requirements and stay in shape before you dive (which is not meant as a comment on the soul involved in this incident as I have now idea of his conditioning).

Never said it SHOULD have been announced. Assuming I mean something that I never said nor implied.

I wouldn't take what the other poster said too personally. I understood that you weren't saying it should be announced but rather you thought someone would have heard about it and it would have passed around the boat. I also imagine there was no call for specific guests to report to the Guest Service's desk (usually means they aren't on board at disembarkment time) so there was just nothing different so no way you guys would have known a tragedy happened on board.

I don't think people actually die on cruise ships as much as people make it out to be even from natural causes. Of course it happens and ships are prepared but it isn't like someone dies on ever Disney cruise.

There was an incident on CC the week before we got there -- a man had a heart attack on the beach and they flew a helicopter in to take him to Nassau (I think), but he did not make it. It was very sad because it was a family vacation and the grandkids were there.

Yes he was experienced....It is very hard for the family....he was loved by all and we will miss him....any help will be grateful....Disney is a amazing company and they helped a lot...would love to hear from anyone on that last dive with him
