Magic needs painting and more

Wow, I was on the Magic about three weeks ago and didn't notice anything like the OP mentioned. I'll have to check my pictures but she looked good to me.

We were on the Magic the week after Thanksgiving. Just so everyone can rest easy, all verdandah hand railings on Deck 7 received a thorough varnishing during the cruise. DH ran into the guy doing the railings for our cabin.

Regular maintenance needs to be done but let's be honest folks, we expect DCL to turn that ship around in hours. There is not a lot for regular maintenance and salt air is the worst for any sort of paint and varnish type finishes - just ask anyone that has a beach house!!!

We were on the NYE cruise too (our 6th) and thought the Magic looked great. We did see the crew varnishing a railing 2 doors down from us (deck 7) one day at port. Our railing was great. We also saw people painting all the time. I wish I was there now..it is sooooooooooo COLD here!!:goodvibes

We've sailed on the Magic almost every year since 2002, before after and long times between dry dock. We have always been impressed with the condition of the ship! Like a previous poster said the ship in in constant use with no down time. We've always seen work being done, painting, sanding, varnishing. And you can really see the attention they put into maintaining the ship when you're parked next to some others. My guess is that if the entire deck's rails were "bare" they had been sanded and were going to be re-done.

We'll be back on the ship in a few weeks, and I expect we'll find her just as ship shape as always.
... No the rails were not sanded .. and were in need of complete updating.. they should never have been in this condition... and in six Magic Cruises.. rust in the Verhanda's was unheard of.. this ship needs better attention.. more painters and repairmen. One thought, perhaps as this ship ages, the maintenance crew is being spread to do too many jobs that take them away from painting and rail maintenance. We thought there were fewer maintenance workers on the ship...

I guess we all have different perceptions and we'll see for ourselves in a few weeks. But I expect her to look as magical as always.

Glad it was taken care of for you quickly.

For me? That would be a minor issue. I look forward to the magic of the experience and the fun of family and friends. A little rust and wear and tear doesn't bother me. On the past few cruise, I've always seen people working on cleaning the ship so it seems like they are doing what they can.

Looking forward to my trip next month!

Yes, your Magic Cruise will be great and what you are expecting. I was thrilled that DCL listened to my comments and immediately reacted. It just seemed that they were behing the 8 ball on this...

We all want the Magic to be in great condition. We were on the first Panama West bound cruise and believe me, it was just about perfect... and ready for West Coasters to come aboard.

Hope you come back from your cruise and report that all is now in order.. We plan to be back on for a Baltic cruise this summer. We have had 8 disney cruises... and love it...The staff are wonderful and very very attentative. Have fun...

We have been on the Wonder twice and never had any issues, however, it did look like they were constantly painting the ship, from what we could see.

In 2009, we sailed on the RCCL Freedom of the Seas. It was launched in 2006 and they already had rust issues on that ship. While we were sitting in chairs by some railings on the outside of the ship, we watched as they (actually one guy) chipped away at the rust and painted anew.

It is our personal opinion, and maybe we caught the wonder fresh outta dry dock and the Freedom getting ready to go into dry dock, but overall, the older Wonder appeared to be in better shape than the much newer Freedom.

It is a constant problem on any seagoing vessel.
