Day 6, St. Thomas: Immigration wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be (I took DS in his PJs) but to me, it’s a big waste of time. They called my son’s name, to see if he would look at them. The line did move pretty quickly. We headed up for a fast breakfast, but unfortunately, they did a spot inspection of the Disney Magic, so everything was backed up that morning. They even ran out of plates in Topsiders, and everything was quite chaotic, although the Magic pulled a 98 score, we heard.

One of the highlights of the cruise was a private excursion we booked through Shoretrips.com. This was a Family Pirate and Eco-Adventure Snorkel tour that took little kids, too. We took about a 15 minute taxi ride to the tour place, which also does a lot of kayak tours. They were prepping a large group getting set to head out on that. Our group was just 7 folks…the three of us, tourists from Poland, a guide, and a guide in training. We took a little inflatable motor boat over to a small island. We hiked around the island as the guide explained the local flora and fauna to us, then we went snorkeling in a beautiful lagoon. DS wanted to stay on the shore, so DH and I took turns in the water. I love snorkeling in the Caribbean, so this was a real treat. Lots of tropical fish! Overall, the tour was about three hours. At the beginning, they did a hermit crab race, mainly for our DS. They also directed him toward a little pirate “loot” where he got a gold coin, some stickers and a sword. At the end of the tour, our guide had the Polish traveler toss her overripe banana on the ground…..it was astonishing to see how quickly the hermit crabs found it, and how the whole floor of the island seemed to be moving all of a sudden. It was like a scene out of a horror movie! But all quite fascinating. We all returned to the ship, but I decided to go back into town and do some shopping while DH and DS went to the pool.

I was stunned when I got in the taxi trolley to see a little girl down on the ground, surrounded by paramedics, next to another trolley. I’m not sure if she fell out of the trolley or got hit by one of them. Our tablemates reported they saw her get back on the ship in a wheelchair with her folks. Disney crew were out there, also. It was quite scary to see.

That evening, we enjoyed Rich Purpura’s show in the Disney Theater. I guess it’s his standard show, but it was quite amusing the first time out! DS had a terrific time in the club that night…but again, we were tired, so we picked him up by 10 p.m.

Jodi: We heard that the little girl was in the taxi w/her family & she jumped out. The driver didnt notice her & ran over her lower leg/ankle. She did make it back to the ship on time, would be very scary to have that happen while on vacation....

OMG that's what happened. I was in my cabin (5th deck aft) standing near the open verandah door when I heard this blood curdling scream. My husband and I both ran out onto the verandah to see what happened. We saw the girl lying on the ground. It took forever for paramedics to come. It was very upsetting, she was screaming for what seemed like 30 minutes. We wondered what had happened. We thought that the driver had possibly knocked her down when he opened the door and she had cracked her head open or something because they wouldn't let her move. Our tablemates said that they saw her board the ship in a wheelchair too. I hope that she is okay now, it was heartbreaking to watch!!!

Jodi, as per my earlier post - any additional info on your excursion would be great. If you would be willing to share the cost, whether you felt it was worthwhile, easy to book etc etc. Thanks again!!!!!!!

Sure. It was $157 for the three of us, not counting the round trip taxi fare and the tip. Take a look at shoretrips.com.

We loved the trip. The guide made the hike around the island informative, and we loved the boat ride over to the island. And the water was beautiful. Not a lot of reef, but very pretty fish. Your DS could try the snorkeling, too; our DS didn't want to.
