Magic Kingdoms's 45th Anniversay 10/1/2016 will it be worth the fighting the crowds?

Right?!? Our flight doesn't arrive until 10am. Otherwise, I probably would. Stitch is by far her favorite and I promised we would go a few times this trip. Then I find out its closing October 1st...nice.

I SO don't want to be in MK on the 1st, but now that it's the only day my daughter will be able to go on Stitch, we may have to.

LOL! I read on the Dis news that people absolutely love Stitch or absolutely hate it. I had yet to hear of even one person actually liking it, but now there is your daughter so I guess someone does love it.

Not sure if the experience will be the same but we just happened to be at EPCOT for the 30th anniversary in 2012. We got commemorative buttons and got to see the best firework show I've ever seen that night. I know that there is a whole lot more room around the WS vs MK, but it really didn't start getting crowded until around 6 pm that night. It was definitely 3-4 rows deep of people that evening though for fireworks.

I don't think that they lit so much as an extra firecracker on the 40th night, so I'm thinking no way for "special" fireworks on the 45th.

It's not the ride so much as the character. She has stitch everywhere in her beach-themed bedroom. We do the Ohana breakfast every trip too. Wish he has a better attraction!

No! We were there on 10/1/2011 for the 40th, and I don't think the crowds were worth it. The pin and maps were cool, but I don't recall any special merchandise or food. What I do recall is being packed like a sardine into Main Street to watch "special extra fireworks" that turned out to be a regular showing of Wishes.

I will be in WDW this year on 10/1, and I'm not going anywhere near the MK that day. I actually got claustrophobic in the crowds 5 years ago when we trying to exit. I was this close to having a panic attack, and I'm not doing it again.

Epcot is open till 10:00 that night so we're going there. :)

There was a ton of pricey merchandise back in frontier land, especially pin sets. Line was crazy long. Some interesting stuff.

Can't say I noticed it was extra crowded during the day. Met my friend who said it was bit crazy @ rope drop.

That is our first day and I have long planned for it to be our night to watch Wishes before I realized the anniversary thing. I booked the dessert party with plaza viewing, so maybe that will help!

Maybe you could rope drop Stitch?

:lmao::laughing::rotfl2:

Sorry. I just never envisioned myself ever typing those words!

wow.. during hte MNSSHP thy use stitch as a trick or treat spot and I got really nervous that this was the trick portion of trick or treating and we would all have to ride it to get out and no candy :( It wasn't but you go into line and start going around the building inside like it is.

This is what will be offered on October 1st (From the Hub)
Entertainment:
A special presentation will take place on Cinderella Forecourt Stage, Oct. 1, 9:30 a.m.
Guest speakers, musical performances and appearances by favorite Disney characters
Merchandise:
Limited and other commemorative items found throughout the park
Food and Beverages:
Custom crafted 45th Anniversary themed treats available at Main Street Bakery and Gaston’s Tavern

Thanks for posting that helpful info, Yulilin.

Appearances by favorite characters? There are never any of those at the MK.

Custom crafted treats which I would bet my house are cupcakes.

Limited commemorative items? A $450 vinyl coated canvas bag by Dooney & Bourke perhaps?

This list makes the MK an easy pass that day.

I agree. If I wasn't buying a pin for a Disser I would probably pass too

Do you think the pins will sell out early in the day? We'll be hopping between DHS and EPCOT that day for Jedi Training, F&W, and 5:15 Club Villain. I was thinking of hopping over to MK after CV, so I'm guessing we'd arrive at MK around 8-8:30pm. Any chance I might still be able to buy a pin that late?

Very hard to tell. It's l.e. if 3000 and I'm not sure if there is a buying limit. If there is then it might still be available, if not, ebayers will go crazy

Hmm... Perhaps we'll cancel our PPO breakfast at H&V to be at MK RD instead, grab the pin, then scoot over to DHS for JT sign-ups. We should still arrive to DHS within the first hour of the park opening. Lots of hopping in our plans that day already - might as well add another stop in the morning while we still have the energy!

Just be ready for potential crazy merchandise lines

The times guide for MK that includes Oct. 1st is out an the speaker at 9:30 am will be Magic Kingdom's president George Kalogridis. No mention on the times guide of special merchandise or food

Most of the 45th merchandise is already out in stores. On October 1st they will have a limited edition tee shirt and pin. This will be a very low key event day at Magic Kingdom.

right I should've said that the Limited Edition "I was there" merchandise will be the one with the big line at the Emporium.
Ebay already is selling and preselling a lot of the merchandise

Yes the pins and the tee shirt will sell out very quickly. They will reappear on ebay later that afternoon.
