Magic Kingdom to begin test on Disney Dine on the Go

I didn't think the price of lunch and dinner at quick serve changes like at table serve places
why separate the 2
when I go to wdw I always get the dining plan and for my drink I get ice tea or lemonade I think when I went 3 weeks ago I drank soda one 1

But the verbiage is troublesome to me. RIght now the prices are the same for before 4 and after 4. Will the QS restaurants now start having a lunch menu and a dinner menu?

Six Flags does this time-limited certificate thing. I think part of the idea is that you might miss one of the meals or decide not to do one of the meals and then later in the day you won't be able to use that first certificate anymore. That happened to us at Six Flags several years ago and it was annoying.

Oh! Maybe to keep two people from using one voucher

So two people don't buy one plan and share it at one meal.

I think that wording is there so that people use it only for one dinner and one lunch....as to prevent a couple from purchasing one meal plan and each of them having a lunch. Simply as a means of discouraging sharing.

Sorry if I missed this while scanning past the discussion of parenting strategies, but does anybody know if you have to get this for everyone in your party? Or could I just get it for my 4 year old DD? It will only be the two of us and we could probably happily share kids meals.

It sounds like you can buy as many or as few as you like. Kids QS meals are really small, though, so sharing will probably require buying at least an extra side of fries or something. Another alternative would be using one of them at Casey's which does not have a kid's menu, so you can get an adult meal to share there.

Thanks, I was actually thinking about Casey's when I asked that. A corn dog nugget meal would consist of her eating a couple nuggets and a handful of fries and saying she's done. Someone's gotta finish that!

We have the Six Flags AP Dining Plan. It's the same. There are lunch hours, dinner hours and snack hours. Miss your window and you lose the credit. I think they do that to keep families from buy the plan for half their group, then using their credits all at one meal. Most times when we go it's early or late and we end up not using one of the meals. Just like everyone in a room has to have the DDP, to prevent sharing.

I think sharing is what motivates them, so we'll see if this will last. Folks will catch on, buy only enough for half their party to share or buy all kids meals (I could eat kids meals with a snack in between and be fine) ............ and Disney will see the numbers falling out of favor. It will be another BOG Breakfast, but will Disney be bold enough to pull the plug if the numbers don't work?

I can also see Disney doing this to encourage less cash exchange at the restaurant counters, possibly thinking that will speed things up. No matter what meal you order within the parameters of the program, you hand over the certificate...no addition, subtraction, or making of change required.

Which should be the case of the DDP and using DC/CC, which I think most folks do. If these folks got their own line, I could see that would be an advantage. Disney is doing this because it's not a good value for guests and Disney will make more money. Offsite guests have long asked about getting a Dining Plan .......... this plays right in to it.

Some people don't know the prices ahead of time and like the convenience of it already being paid for.

This is for them .. just like the regular dining plan.

If this was a deal, people would just gobble this up. This is a business/financial thing ... like gift cards .. getting people to pre-buy something and eventually don't use its full value.
Anything that prevents the consumer from truly knowing the "real" price is good for the company.

Also it is another way to bump up prices at these places and then offer a "deal" that helps hide those costs.

I think it just will cause confusion among your "average" or first time guest .. as they try and use it as at sit down restaurant (because they don't know the difference between QS and TS) or they skip lunch and hope to get two meals at dinner .. etc. No matter the fine print you put down .. some people just won't read it/understand it.

Though I wonder if it speeds up food buying since this is another cash-less transaction like using your Magic Band with your credit card attached.

To me .. $29 is probably what I would spend at those places IF I chose to get an overpriced soda (which I usually don't) .. so .. I don't see the point.

Not disagreeing about the lack of monetary value for folks who really know the dining system at Disney. Just trying to think of all the reasons to put something like this in place. :)

I also feel they are trying to find a more palatable price point then the Disney Dining Plan ..but this price makes the Dining Plan cost seem like a TOTAL rip off.

How is ONE snack worth and a mug worth an extra $16 A DAY? (The QS Dining Plan is $46/day!!).

But I guess the target for this is people who don't buy the big Disney ticket packages .. and just go for a day or two.

I'm not sure why they just don't lower the price of the QS dining plan and just offer it on a daily basis .. rather than having two different (and different costing) plans.

It isn't, of course. QSDP is a bad value if you're paying full price for it. (Offered as part of a package discount might be a different story, of course.)

But note the differences here from QSDP, apart from the snack & mug:

1) Magic Kingdom only
2) Must be used in specific time blocks on a single day, rather than freely at any time
3) Does not include Be Our Guest (breakfast/lunch)

So, there are differences.

It's also only a trial at this point, and likely launched now to try and ensure restaurants stay busier during one of the slowest times of the year. Somehow, I expect that the trial will wrap up before spring break, at least in its current form.

Well, it's actually TWO snacks, not one, as of January. That gives the mug around a $7 price tag/value.

This is exactly who this is for. This new plan and the dining plans are two different things. The dining plans are a way to entice people to stay at the Disney resorts and spend more time at Disney. This new plan is more for those staying offsite/day guests to get more of their dollars to stay inside Disney.

It looks to me like someone in the bean counter conference room has been taking a good look at what has worked so well for Disney with their resort guests and modifying it for those who don't. You have this new meal deal test at MK instead of the DDP. And you have the paid EMM (extra magic mornings) copycatting the EMH resort guests have had for years. The EMM has been a decent success. Time will tell if this modification works as well.

OH...one other difference. With the DDP, kids are able to use their credits to get an adult QS meal, making the "cost" of the plan much different for anyone with a Disney aged kid. It looks like these meal tickets are printed out well enough to prevent a child's ticket from being used for an adult meal.

I'd trust my DGD. SHe has had access to a credit card since she was 13, and now is linked to her father's. She would never use it in a way that was not approved by her parents.

My kids were 13 and 11 on our last trip and their magic bands were linked to my cc. They knew not to use it unnecessarily.

As for the dining plan - none of disney's plans work for my family including this one but it may work for someone else.

My DGD had charging priviledges on her band on the last two trips. The child saves her money, has a budget in mind that she works towards, complete with her "pocket" money for the airport and travel. She pays her bill a few times during the trip.

My DD and DSIL have given her plenty of trust with the understanding that if she abuses it the consequenses will nto be pretty. I think that it is good that your kids know that they are trusted, and they show they deserve it.
