Where I went the other day, did not have any. I had to by extra stamps. My poor POM said he didn't know the new rate. I just got a bunch of stamps. Don't these mean know how important this is? I think we should start a petition and part of the new PO orientation should be posting for swaps 101.

Rules

2. The lady at the window has been posting swaps a lot longer than you and can/will tell you how to do your job.

Quick 'rule' question, although I think I know the answer now that I've just read through a recent newbie thread.

For two of my pieces, I have 'balloons' made of punches and was planning to use string or fibers or something to make the strings to attach down to a brad to make it look like a bunch of balloons. It looks really cute but none of the strings, fibers, etc I've tried look right. I tested on a prototype (which I changed anyway) just drawing on the lines but wasn't sure if this would be ok?

After just reading the other thread I'm thinking it's ok since there is a lot of work in this and it's to make it look good and not just laziness but I wanted an 'official' answer.

Drawing is okay with me. A metallic color would give it plenty of puch.

If you really wanted fiber, have you tried different dental flosses? The stretchy ones are pretty pliable. Use a little two way glue to draw the line and lay down the floss.

Drawing balloon strings would be fine. When people do paper piecings they often will draw lines for accents or facial features. I think the "no drawing rule" is referring more to hand-lettering or like drawing a honey pot on a "Pooh" element.

As for strings & fiber, I agree - most I've seen wouldn't work for this. However, as AWM mentioned those waxed dental flosses would be good because you could create loops and "wiggly" lines with it. My LSS has only ever had pink though. I should just break down & order some online.

Or what about those Stickles SusieStone has talked about? I've never seen it used, but it sounds a lot like the "puff" paint I used on some wood pieces I made years ago. Of course depending on how puffy it gets it might not work.

One last thought...you could stitch the strings on. I'd think that would be a LOT of work though if you did it by hand.

Whatever you decide will be fine I'm sure! You've put plenty of time & thought into this and that's what tends to make great elements!

stickles doesn't puff at all. It is as thick or as thin as you apply it. Waxed floss would work better because of line control. How about cross stich thread like the DMC stuff - that could be tied and knotted. I only read his post so if this has already been discussed, I will feel very dumb.

Thanks for the tips on the string. I think given how I've now set it up, drawing them on will give the most realistic effect.

I have one little thing to finish on one little photo mat and they are done - so they will go out early next week.

Will upate again later - thanks for all the tips! I have to try that stickle on something soon - on the surprise swap perhaps?????

Paranoia is setting in (fast). I just mailed out my elements for another swap (which shall remain nameless). One of them included (but was not limited to) a paper piecing of a Pooh hunny pot. I was sooooo tempted to write "hunny" on it, because I think that would've looked more Pooh-ish. I didn't do it because of the hand lettering guideline. (I really need to get that homemade rub-ons technique mastered.) What I did do was paint "honey" on them, not the word, but a golden yellow color that looked like honey dripping. I am now terribly worried that it wasn't okay.

Now see, I would have thought the word Hunny on the Pooh pot (sounds funny, doesn't it? ) should be hand lettered. How else would you get the "N" backwards?!? Drawing the whole pot is entirely different though.

You ladies are over-thinking this!! Relax!! Stop it now!! If you've mailed your elements, promise that you won't think about them again until you get your return package!! If they're still in your possession & you have a question...ASK!! I promise, we won't bite! If you're shy and don't want to post your question, either send a PM or evena n email...I included my address with the mailing details PM I sent at the beginning.

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe it was the lighting on the photo sample I saw & maybe I'm just nuts - I thought it looked like it had depth to it. That's good to know. I'd actually be more inclined to use it since it does not puff up.

BTW - The 3 packages I received tonight were from MazdaUK, 123SA and Mom2001Scrapper. Nice work!

You could do the N backwards if you do each letter as a separate text box and flip the N.

I would have been okay with the hand lettering on a honey pot. That is supposed to not look professionally done.

You would not however want me to hand letter any quotes around a journalling mat. My handwriting changes, from letter to the next. One will be straight and angular and another will be all loopy (kind like me).

And the painting of the honey on the pot - THAT is pure genius!

Stickles do have some dimension to them because of the glitter but it is not like puff paint or souffle pens. You'll see on the WDW Railroad topper.
