Hi! I'm going to be in Disney from 11/19-11/23 and I noticed the extra magic hours were changed from 1am to 3am. Has anyone been to MK so late? I'm not complaining-I think it's cool...but why do they do these super late hours?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

I haven't been that late before, but if I had the opportunity I would take it.

Wonder what the crowds would be like???

I'm wondering too....I mean, there are a lot of families, so I don't know how kids stay up, but I'm also wondering why they're doing it...
hmmm....anyone know?

I haven't been that late either. I think it would be fun tho.

It's because Space Mountain reopens on 11/22......well that's the best I could come up with.

A bus driver told us it is a nightmare when it's open that late. He said it is all out of control teens ...well I for one aim to find out.

We will be there 11/18- 11/23...staying at POR and seeing YeehaBob everynight! Join us if you are in the area!

I came to check the boards for this very topic. I was thinking the same thing. How cool is that to be there that late. Now when I was 9 and went to Disney the Magic kingdom was always open to like 1am, that's of course when only mk was there and no other parks. But as for the teens being there, i wouldn't think so since it's a sunday and a school night and there are usually not a whole lot of teens in the parks at the end of normal magic hours. But the Space mountain theory could be valid. I thought it strange that on all days that week that one is the one they picked to be opened so late. Maybe they are also going to have some sort of special taping or press thing happening that late because of the opening. Just a theory. But one time back in the early 90's at the park closing of HS they were taping something outside of theChinese thater, and a few of us lucky ones that wanted to stay till 3am were able to watch since they wanted a crowd of people in the background. But still just a theory about the 3am closing.

We (my niece and I) stayed til 2 am. It did clear out sometime after midnight. Believe it our not there were quite a few little kids up at 2am. My niece was one of them! We had a great time riding Winnie the Pooh and all the other rides she will ride in Fantasyland with little wait.

My son and I look forward to the late emh at MK. Our last visit the park was open till 3am.

The entire park is nearly empty for the last two hours with the exception of Tomorrowland; it stays pretty packed till close. We had Fantasyland all to ourselves for about 30 minutes on one outing. We've never had a problem with out of control kids.

I've stayed that late on a couple of occasions, most recently Spring Break this year (week before Easter).

DH had never been to WDW and HATES crowds. Staying in that late, the parks were all but deserted (after Spectro and Wishes) and we walked on to anything we wanted to! POTC, JC, HM - no wait! It was wonderful! (EP was open til 1a one night and there were still lines at TT, Soarin', and SE)

The first time I did it wasn't until 3 - it was when they had people pay for EMH. I think the park closed around 1a or so and again, it was wonderful! Little waits for all of the E-ticket rides. We rode Space Mtn 3 times in a row.

DH is bummed that the park won't be open that late for our next trip. He thought that was the way to go!

Love being in MK that late!!! THe latest I've been there was 2am, and it was terrific. I would imagine that Disney has decided to keep the park open later because of the crowds there for Space Mt reopening day....I can only imagine the crowds that day. I'm glad I don't arrive until the following weekend.

But I have never had an issue with out of control teens late at night, with the possibly exception of DTD! In MK, it's so nice to not have any crowds to deal with. It does, in fact, get a little spooky with so few people there!!

JC in the dark is great if you have a good tour guide. Wonder, with SM opening that day, if it'll make the ride waits shorter everywhere else?????

2 years ago around the same time, myself and my DD15 and DS13 attempted to close the Magic Kingdom at 3 am. DW and DD5 left after Wishes for the room. Crowds thinned steadily. By 1:30 it was really empty. We were walking on every ride and having a great time. Until about 2:15, we stopped to have a snack, (Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich:love:)

After sitting still for 10 minutes or so, it was all we could do to drag ourselves back to the bus stop for the ride back. Both of the kids slept on the bus.

I was glad to see this schedule change so we can try again this year!

OH how LUCKY for YOU! I LOVE when there are late hours.............last few trips they have been so limited and so disappointing from years past!
Have a GREAT time....I am SO JEALOUS!!!!;)

Last time I went PI was still around. Crowds may actually pick up in the parks for late hours since (teens, young adults, and adults alike) don't have any real place at Disney to blow off steam at. There are those that will trek to Citywalk.

Prior to the closing of PI we stayed to 3am to hardly any crowds especially after the late wishes and parades. The weirdest thing about MK that night was every rides expect the fantasy land ones were hardly any wait. You might wait 20 at Splash or Space but most were hardly any at all. Fantasy land rides were 45mins or longer till 2am. I couldn't believe the parents forcing their young ones to stay up to ride snow white and such. I mean how much is your kid going to enjoy a ride dead tired at 2am in the morning?

Anyways I think it is a good option for two reasons. Lower crowds on most of the rides and if you wait till right at 3am you give the majority of crowds a fair chance to thin out.

i went labor day weekend of 2008 and MK was open til 3am, it was nice, by the end it was very quiet...although still a bit of a line for Peter Pan and Buzz ( 15 minutes..not long but i was spoiled that week) but everything else was walk on from about 130 on....i didnt notice lots of teens running as someone mentioned? (maybe that was a joke) however PI WAS still open in 2008..it closed september so that may be why crowds were still lower...it was awesome walking through frontierland and DF and myself were there only ones...you definately dont get that feeling very often!

Don't look a "gift-mouse" in the mouth!! just go til they kick you out!!!

I June 2008 my wife and I stayed at Hollywood studios til 1am. Toy Story Mania was fairly new and the line at 1am was 90 minute wait. CM said as long as you were in line before 1am that they would let you stay. wow

We adore peak season because of the extra late EMH hours at night. You will have a blast! :)
