Magic Kingdom for just one day? in June?

I'm trying to dig my way through the board for information, but wowza, there's a lot! we're going to magic kingdom for one day the first week of june (inlaws live nearby), 2 year old and 7 year old. we play to be there at opening and stay to close, most likely. my biggest question is this new FP+ system? they didn't have it when we last went, is it something you can get for one day or is that just for longer trips? it seems kind of a pain just for a day, but i don't want us to be in lines the whole time. i really liked the old FP system. and sorry in advance, i'm sure these questions have been asked/answered a million times!!

another question: what are the absolute must-do attractions? particularly new things? we haven't been in 3 years.

It really depends what your interests are. New things are: New Fantasyland...Enchanted Tales with Belle, Barnstormer, Princess Hall for Rapunzel meet and greet, Journey of the Little Mermaid...New restaurant-Be Our Guest. By the time you visit the new Seven Drawfs Mine Train will probably be open too.

There is a new talking Mickey meet and greet at the town square building.

FP+ can be utilized by offsite guests and kiosk locations throughout the park. You should get to a desk at opening and plan your FP right away. Most popular attractions for FP+ are: Enchanted Tales with Belle, Peter Pan's Flight, Big Thunder, Splash/Space Mountain. These attractions have long wait times the later in the day you wait to ride.
