Magic kingdom down to two designated smoking areas

Well, I'm a non smoker and a guest and they're upsetting me!

What exactly is upsetting you? The locations of the DSAs? The numbers of them? That people use them? That people don't use them? That they even exist?

This is just going to lead to desperate guests (or guests who don't care) lighting up where they're not supposed to. If Disney analyzed their space in a smart way I'm sure they could find another spot or two that's completely out of the way of anyone not explicitly looking for a smoking area.

There was what I thought was a good spot, and they moved it behind Space Mt, which is one that they just got rid of. It was to the right of Space Mt (if you are looking at the building, tucked away in the trees and down some stairs. Completely off of any busy path. This is one I don't understand why they moved it behind Space Mt, on a path of many guests (and now that one is gone as well).

Had my first experience with that questioned a restaurant last year at the ATL airport when I had a 2hr layover and decided on breakfast. I didn't even know smoking restaurants still existed outside of casinos anymore.

Yeah I can't remember where I was but I think it might have actually been in GA. We had taken a road trip a couple of years ago and one of the places we went to was Savannah,GA (though we drove through GA as a whole) I don't remember if it was there or if it was a city close to there. We were all a bit like "Huh?".

I'm a non smoker so I do not care about this. However, I want to point out for all of you complaining how rude it is because you are allergic to the smoke, I am allergic to air fresheners and perfumes. Some people smoke, others seem to take a bath in perfume and cologne before they can go anywhere. So many of you are causing me physical harm throughout my entire day. I deal with it in the shows, restaurants, attractions and more. So keep that in mind when you are bashing the smokers and 2 lonely smoking areas that you are inconvenienced by having to avoid.

Most perfumes and some air freshners irritate my allergies too. I don't wear perfume, I don't use air freshners. My mother knows to put her perfume on after her and I are not going to be together. If someone is wearing an excessive amount of perfume (oddly enough cologne isn't as bad for me) I cover my nose and try to move as far away as possible (given the situation). I do find your choice of words interesting though for a non-smoker though no offense is meant here by mentioning them: 2 lonely smoking areas, inconvenienced by having to avoid, bashing, complaining how rude.

The college I attended (this is recent information, I graduated in 2015 at the age of 51!) went from designated areas to a total ban on tobacco products on campus, during the years I attended. I only noticed "cheaters" when we still had designated areas. Once the ban went into affect, I never saw another smoker on campus.

Congrats on graduating!! My alma mater made a ban on the selling of tobacco products on campus a few weeks after I graduated which was in 2010. While there is a statewide ban of smoking in public places, restaurants, etc the University's outdoor area isn't part of that only the "no smoking within 20ft of entrance to building" They are currently working on a tobacco free policy (i.e. like a total ban) but it might take some time for something like that to pass.

Per my allergist, cigarette smoke is NOT something that people are allergic to -- it's a general irritant. If you already have other allergies or asthma, you're more likely to be bothered by it.

You're right it is technically classified as an irritant. I usually describe my issue as it irritates my allergies but I know from time to time (even on my post on here) I did say I was allergic. Either way it's messing with me lol

I wonder how many people complaining about the smoke when they walk by a DSA also complain about the smoke from the fireworks. Because I can tell you, that sets of my asthma just as easily as cigarette smoke.

I def. get your point as it can irritate me too if I'm too much in the thick of the smoke. But I will say for the most part, and def. at WDW I have access to information on when fireworks will be going on and can make appropriate arrangements so I am not near them or am far enough away that it's less likely to bother me. Unfortunately, as people have pointed out, smokers don't necessarily stick to the DSA, DSA locations sometimes put you in direct contact with smokers, and if the person is a heavy enough smoker or just finished smoking and then gets into a queue, an attraction/show, etc I'm then around them but not by my own choice.

I hear ya'! Truly, I get a headache almost instantly if I'm around a lot of cigarette smoke -- hate it.

I am most happy that they are getting rid of the adventureland one -- NO WAY TO AVOID IT!! My sister and I would always joke that inhaling all that smoke was the REAL price of a dole whip!!

I'm just glad they removed the one by the castle. We seemed to forget and move through that one multiple times every trip - it never made sense to me that it was in such a high traffic area.

As for the debate, Disney is a business, and if they choose to become a non-smoking business, that's their prerogative. It's clear they are steering in that direction.

Disney needs to be very firm about this. I am very aganst smoking in public and will ask a cast member to address the situation of smokers in non smoking areas. Always. It is the one thing I will never tolerate.

The problem is that Disney is rarely very firm about anything when it comes to guests and rules.

They should restrict smoking to a designated area outside the park. Anyone caught outside the designated area should lose their passes.

It's really not as complicated as Disney seems to make it. Provide a few truly out of the way places for smokers and then enforce no smoking elsewhere. Then everyone can be happy.

The problem is that Disney is rarely very firm about anything when it comes to guests and rules.

The other part of that problem is guests only listen when they want to. I don't think I've ever been in a show where the guests have all moved all the way down to the end to make seating available for everyone. Some jerk(s) always stop in the middle, making people trample on them to get to their seats. And I'm not sure how they can be firm, and not have constant arguments.

I have to say... I'm also very sensitive to smoke and can smell it coming from a mile away (okay, not really). But on our recent trip to Disney I didn't notice it very much in comparison to other places. For example, a few months ago we went on a quick weekend trip to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and I quickly decided it must be the smoking Capitol of the world. I couldn't walk anywhere without being surrounded by smokers. It was then that I realized we have been spoiled by Disney trips. Kind of makes it hard to go anywhere else.

Only once during our recent WDW trip do I remember a problem. It was after illuminations while waiting for the resort bus. You couldn't really escape it, and I considered it very rude to light up among the massive park closing bus lines. Otherwise, I can't say I even noticed much smoking.

From the map on the Disney site there is not a smoking area on the path to Tomorrowland. There is one out at the main entrance and one by Big Thunder Mountain.

I actually think this is total BS. people treat smokers like lepars. The exhaust that comes from cars is worse than second hand smoke (in an outdoor environment), but no one would dream of treating drivers the way society treats smokers. Sorry, had to voice my opinion here.
