Why did they take away the magic kingdom bus arrival welcome fanfare?? I was so disappointed this visit in May when they didn't have it!! Any clues as to why??

Yup.
Cost-cutting is the answer.
Several of the sound systems on the buses died and they declined to fix them.

I'll bet they're making a new one, and they pulled this in anticipation.

Or it was making drivers crazy.

We didn't get it at all in August either. We were disappointed because this was our first trip with my mom and sister and we had told them all about it and then it never happened. According to a Disney bus driver on a different forum I read it it bus driver discretion as to what is played or said on the systems. I figure I'm going to flat out ask for the welcome announcement in August and see what the driver says. I figure it can't hurt to ask, all they can say is no (hopefully yes though :) )!

This really bothers me more than I thought it would. But, they seem to have enough money to add commericals in to the Disney music while you are waiting on the phone! On hold now, on the dining line, and they keep breaking in to the music with commericals! :furious:

We went to MK at least half a dozen times from two different hotels in March, and didn't have the music once. We were disappointed.

Im a major fan of Disney and will remain do, but their cost cutting is definitely impacting the "magic" of their brand. Cutting music on the buses and cutting staff in the parks yields unhappy passengers, longer lines, dirtier bathrooms, etc. It's apparent that cost cutting may be necessary for the bottom line, but it detracts from Disney as a whole. Disappointing.

Time to re-start the Disney Is Cutting Everything Parade. Even though there is no proof of any of it.

We were on a bus one day, and it looked like they were training a new driver. The trainer kept asking the families on the bus (there were only 3 families, about 10 of us) if anyone was having a birthday, or who liked a certain character, etc. And if someone replied in the affirmative, he would tell the driver to hit something on their console and then suddenly a brief announcement would play relating to the question the trainer had just asked. I'd never heard most of them before, but they were kinda neat to hear.

I've heard the prince/princess having a bday before. Generally it's a child dressed up with a bday button on that triggers it.

I've thought about this a lot. Nostalgia's an interesting thing, because it tints both what you remember and what you see. I think people have an opinion of the parks that is built a lot of recollection, but that recollection gets colored by nostalgia. for example, I don't know if the parks really used to be a lot cleaner when I was a kid. I know I didn't notice them being dirty, but I was a kid. You don't notice dirty when you're a kid. I don' t know whether the CMs were nicer, but I also know that as I get older, I notice rudeness a lot more than I did when I was younger (I also hope I'm a lot less rude). And with anything, the more times you're anywhere, the more likely you are to see details and notice changes.

Nostalgia from childhood is one thing but I took my oldest boys when they were little and then my DD when she was 3(about 7 years difference) and there was definitely a difference in cleanliness. We even went at the same time (fall) and same level resort (moderate). I would even say since our DD was a miracle baby and getting to do princess things was something I was looking forward to that I was more likely to not notice things this trip. But, it was very obvious and hard to ignore.

Plenty of proof is there -- and I'm not the only one who sees it.

People have been complaining about the supposedly dirtier bathrooms for years. And I haven't seen that during my trips. I'm not sure you can prove the bathrooms are dirtier any more than I can prove the are not. And I thought last year it was decided the longer lines were because of FP+, and now all of a sudden it is because of cuts. People see what they perceive to be a negative, and they want to be able to give a reason for it right away. It makes us feel better, for some reason.

The reason for me is that I just can't believe that Disney... after decades of the best customer service, attention to painstaking detail and unsurpassed quality...
has allowed some really, REALLY bad things to happen regarding their customer service, attention to painstaking detail and unsurpassed quality.
