I haven’t been following along with the Disneyland board, I see that sales for Magic Key passes opened in Jan, does anyone know when/if they opened at any point in 2022?

We have 5 (possibly 6) Enchant passes I’d like to buy and trying to see if I should buy regular passes or wait until they reopen since the 5 day PH is almost the same price as the Enchant.

If we got regular passes, would MK sales have to be reopened when we are at the parks to upgrade or is that something I could do over the phone/online?

As of right now the only Mkey available is the Inspire ($1599). In 2022 sales reopened in November and sold out w/in 24 hrs I believe. Enchant was only available for renewal, so I would not count on them being available to upgrade your hoppers. It is possible to upgrade your tickets at the booth if Mkey are available and reservations are available for the Mkey you are upgrading to. So in short - I would buy the 5 day PH tix.

Thanks! Even the next level up would save us some money if we went 3x. I’ll hope that they open up again with Enchant 🤞 but count on just buying the PH.

Ah, gotcha. I thought this might be just for one trip. I do know it was possible to upgrade partially used tickets on the app when sales resumed. Not sure about purchased but unused tickets but someone else on here might know.

You cannot upgrade unused tickets. There have been instances of Disney refunding one ticket so a person can purchase another. I believe the only time you can use an unused ticket towards another ticket/pass is if the ticket expires. You can then use the value of that ticket for another ticket.

I believe you can upgrade unused tickets in person at the ticket booth even if not expired.

I haven’t seen anything recently about this, but a few months ago they would refund you for the tickets you don’t want and then you could repurchase the ones you wanted. It’s possible they are allowing people to just pay the difference now instead of refunding and repurchasing. But I don’t think they’ve ever allowed people to upgrade unused tickets to AP or MKs at the booths or otherwise.

Huh. Admittedly the last time I upgraded unused tickets to APs was December 2006, but I hadn't read anything indicating you couldn't do this anymore. 2006 was a long time ago though. I know about the refunding the tickets procedure nowadays, but I thought that was just for trying to make changes over the phone, didn't know it's going that way in person too.

It was allowed at the booths pretty regularly pre-closure. We did it several times to buy/renew APs. The last time I heard about someone doing this was in 2021 when MKs went on sale. I haven't read anything recently about this still being allowed.

Following. Would love to know if tickets can be upgraded to MKs. I'm optimistic this comes back this year. Maybe the same time reservations go away.

We were given a hard time about upgrading unused tickets when MKs first went on sale. But that was in the early days when there was an insane amount of confusion and different information coming from different places. We decided it wasn’t worth waiting in line to try a different CM so we bought Keys and didn’t activate them until after we used our tickets. Pre-pandemic, we only let our APs expire a couple of times so I’ll admit my memory of how it worked might not be accurate.

My friend upgraded her unused So-Cal 3-day pass to a magic key in January 2023, when they re-opened up magic keys. It was the week after the magic keys opened, we were there on a Monday, and we upgraded at the ticket booth. She upgraded to the imagine key.

Of course, after that, the cast member screwed up the reservation for the day and we had to get a manager to come over to the turnstile to let her in...after that mess up, we were like, ugh, should have just tapped into DCA and then upgraded on the app instead.
