Magic key reservation calendar

There will be availability Thursday or Friday when they reallocated unsold ticket reservations to passes.
Just FYI last weekend it appeared they did not reallocate unsold ticket reservations to passes. Once the APs went to “No Reservations” they stayed that way despite availability of regular tickets to book reservations. This was a surprise to many.

Word on the street is that it’s going to happen on Thursdays. So if it happened last week, it was before they sold out. I’m going to be watching this week to see if there are any changes that look like they’re from Disney and not just cancellations.

I am still hoping that at some future point, there may be day-of availability offered.

So it is looking like we are going to have to upgrade my daughters hopper on Monday after all. I was hoping it wouldn't sell out so she could do it on Sat to make sure she could get Tues and Wed but I guess I get it being labor day. As of right now Sat is available but sunday is sold out which means she can't upgrade till Monday. My question is Monday is her last day what if IT sells out. It is her last day so she HAS to do it that day BUT can she then still get in the park since she will lose her hopper reservation for that day? Or is that once she has gotten in with the hopper even if she upgrades she can still go? I am so confused.

Do it at the end of the day.

Or you can upgrade the 3 day to a 5 day now over the phone, add the reservation days, THEN upgrade to the key late on the 5th day.

I saw them periodically drop more reservations to APs. There were times where either Saturday, Sunday, or both were DCA only and then more reservations for Disneyland would pop up and stay longer than if it was just a random person cancelling their reservation.

I don’t think they would ever allocate all of the unsold ticket reservations, but it appeared to me from the calendar movement that they were reallocating little by little.

No other days on the calendar are restricted at all. So far, every day that's sold out has first dropped to DCA-only. So there is a bit of warning on those, at least. Since they currently are treating all Magic Keys as hoppers, you still get DL access on those days after 1.

Can you just not turn up until 1pm and then go right into DL, or do you have to first go into DCA for a moment, then into DL?

I’m sure this has been answered somewhere, but can you start making park reservations after buying magic key but before activating it?

You will have to enter DCA first. We experienced this with my son. We had DL first, then headed to DCA. He came late and couldn't enter DCA til he had entered DL (4p) so he walked across, got scanned, then came back.

I tried to get into DCA before 1pm yesterday (12:45) even though is wasn’t close to capacity and they said no. So I waited until 1pm and when I walked out of DL and there were lines to get into DCA. 🤣 I turned right back around into Dland, as I only had an hour to finish off my quick trip. Just wanted a quick look at DCA. Thought it was funny that lots of other people were entering at 1pm on a Monday.

Interesting because the official announcement blog from Disney for the Magic Keys had the following information (which has since been re-posted on tons of Disney fan sites and blogs): "If you arrive after 1 p.m., you may start your visit at either park."

Yes. You don't technically "activate" it until it's scanned at the park gates (or the parking lot, for Dream keys).

Was your son using a Magic Key?

Thanks!
Ok I have a follow up question that maybe you can answer. If I have a 3 day ticket that I want to use before using my magic key, do I just have them scan the regular ticket at the gate and my magic key remains inactivated? I just want to make sure it won’t “start the clock” on my magic key when I enter the park using my other ticket.

Thanks!

Reservations are tied to the entry media they are made for. So yes, if your reservation is for your 3 day, you have them scan that. It won't affect your pass unless you have them scan it (but if the pass doesn't have a reservation that day, then it wouldn't work for entry anyways).

Ah true, didn’t think about the reservation component. Thank you!

Yes!!! That’s exactly what I did yesterday, as I have tix left over and don’t want to active my Dream Key yet. Make sure you make your park ressie with your 3 day ticket. 🥰🎃

And interestingly, reservations for hotel guests are unavailable for this Friday (Sept 3rd). Will be interesting to see if they open up in the next couple of days . . . .
I’m wondering if all these seperate buckets of reservations will be consolidated at some time in the future IF it’s limiting capacity beyond what Disney feels are happy with. Maybe just a seperate bucket for hotel guests and one for everyone else? Seems like a work in progress atm.

As of 5:15 pm on Tuesday, reservations for this weekend are WIDE OPEN - you can start at either park for any day in September.

They must have added reservations because it's lasting for awhile.
I just saw this and came immediately to this thread. 😆

🎶But something's hidden through a door
Though I do not have the key
Something's there I cannot see
What does it mean?

Honestly, the hotel guest bucket should be the LAST to fill up. At Disney prices, with so few perks, and it being so easy to stay offsite, I don't understand why Disney doesn't at least guarantee its hotel guests will get into the parks.

From what I understand (and I’m not an expert or anything) is that CMs can help hotel guests make reservations from the “regular” bucket if the hotel bucket is full. That isn’t an official thing, but I’ve heard that kind of thing is happening.
