Magic Key Renewals Start 8/18

They want AP holders just only a certain amount of them. I'm thinking they won't offer new APs again till a enough AP holders don't renew.
For sure... disney execs already stated that AP holders of disneyland were less profitable for them.
So they want less AP holders.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read this right but… when these go up for actual sale (not renewal), is it correct that you can buy right away and not activate until your first trip into a park?

My partner and I are planning a trip from the UK in January and want to go again in September so want to check that if we buy now it will cover both trips.

Yes, your expiration date is based on first use. Last time you had 13 months from purchase to activate.

So is this renewal starting the 18th potentially going to affect crowds the last week of August? Coming from out of town and hoping there won't be a huge sudden crowd increase to max from Aug 29 to Sept 2. I know Disneyland is capping reservations but hoping they don't reach their maximum for those days.
I've been watching MK park availability for the last two weeks of august for the last month. It had zero availability until yesterday and everyday for both parks became available. I'm guessing Disney opened up a bunch more reservation slots. I'm bracing myself for massive crowds.

Yep, I am going in March and then again next fall (fall 2023) twice so when they they put passes available for purchase I am going to immediately buy mine and not activate it until March to avoid the possibility of them stopping sales of passes again.

It is now 12 months to activate. From the new Terms & Conditions -

A Pass will expire if it is not activated within one (1) year from the date of purchase, and upon expiration, such expired Pass may no longer be activated or have park reservations scheduled for it, and any existing park reservations for such Pass will be cancelled. No refunds will be given.

Thank you Disney! Overall much better than what it could have been. I was hoping for a la carte options, but the addition of photo pass nice as is the discount on Genie+. Glad the lawsuit didn't prevent renewals and that the most loyal fan base still gets to go.

I hope they allow people to move up or down within the pass levels.

Overall, I'm happy with the result. Kind of makes me wonder how much of the panic they were generating was on purpose. Crazy company....
Not sure about downgrading- see last sentence in the new Terms & Conditions in the Upgrades section -

UPGRADES: A Guest wishing to upgrade to a Pass from another form of eligible Disneyland® Resort theme park admission media must upgrade on the same day in which the original form of theme park admission media is valid, and must choose a Pass of equal or greater value than the retail price of the original theme park admission media when it was purchased. The difference in prices must be paid in full at the time of the upgrade. If an upgrade to a Pass is made from a multi-day ticket, the Pass will be backdated to begin on the first day that such ticket was used; if an upgrade to a Pass is made from a lower level Pass, the new Pass will have the same expiration date as the original Pass. Each guest wishing to upgrade their theme park admission media to a Pass must be present at the time of the upgrade transaction. Fully used, or partially used and expired, theme park admission media, complimentary ticket media, special event ticket media and ticket media stating its ineligibility for an upgrade may not be upgraded to a Pass. Upgrades may be available from time to time or at no time, as determined in Disney’s discretion. Additionally, upgrades are subject to Pass availability as determined by Disney. Downgrades are not allowed.

Some of my takeaways...
- MK holders are not buying into Genie+. Hence the discount addition. Why not add an additional charge to add Genie+ for the year.
- Is Free Photopass really that big of a perk?
- I wonder why certain MKH can only park at Toy Story Parking Lot and not the structures.
- They would probably sell more Believe Keys (and other MKs) if they offered a additional charge to include parking.
- The inclusion of being able to upgrade makes me think there will be another pass coming.
I can see it being the return of Dream Key, no blackouts, park hop when you want, free parking, G+ for $1.8k??? I can see this happening just before the Christmas blackout dates.

That’s about upgrading from a ticket to a new lass. They’ve said that you can downgrade a magic key renewal.

It also said that last year, but for some reason expirations of vouchers actually showed in app as about a month or so after the one year mark.

From my purchase email a year ago:

If you fail to activate the pass within a year of purchase, the pass will expire and will no longer be able to be activated or be used to schedule park reservations. Any existing park reservations will be cancelled. The pass may not be transferred, and the amount paid for the unused, expired pass may be applied towards the purchase of a new pass of equal or greater value at then current prices, subject to the pass terms and conditions at that time.

Interesting. Hopefully that references downgrade of ticket not MK. Too much Disney for the wife. She wants the downgrade. If not, I'm solo with the kids......

I was secretly hoping for a la carte packages.. with option to add on photopass and genie+ and parking. The genie+ discount is moot for me because at $16 it’s still more than wdw and we wouldn’t need the photopass if we have Drea.. excuse me Inspire or Believe. I thought the discount parking for the lower pass but limiting them to Toy Story is a great way for Disney to make ppl feel like 2nd class citizens.

Weren't they citing the awful wait times and crowds as a result of "Too Many" people buying Genie+?? I am definitely perplexed as to why they would encourage more G+ purchasers if that was the case.

Well, the Inspire Key's blackout dates on December 21st thru January 1st sounds fine and better, but I'm still not sure. I guess that lawsuit didn't teach them anything. Or did I miss something about that?
