Magic, January 16, 2010--Winter Day Castaways

Guess I should pull my corset out of the closet and make sure it still fits! lol

If you see me passed out on pirate night somewhere then make sure I'm still breathing - I may not be drunk but suffering from oxygen deprivation. :rotfl2:

OK, I am new to the board as well (glad to see I am not the only one). We are going to be on the Magic cruise on the 16th (myself ::MickeyMo, my wife ::MinnieMoand our 3 daughters :earsgirl::earsgirl::earsgirl:- 12, 10 and 8 (at cruise time)).

:confused3

Welcome !!! :woohoo:

Hey All...

Since many of you have done this before. How many people dress up for Pirate night?? My son was a pirate last year for Halloween, costume is a tad small, but I'm taking it. My daughter wants me to get her one now too...so I'm looking on Ebay.

Do adults dress up?? If so, how many? My neighbors have costumes we can borrow, but I don't want to lug extra things if only a handful of people dress up. My kids will for sure, but am not sure on the two of us :)

We dress up!!! pirate: Last time I made constumes for all. DH did not want to wear the entire "get up" so he settled for vest, hat, patch, and earring... looked great with his shorts and flip-flops:rotfl: The girls both dressed up as pirates (pants, vests, etc) and I made myself a captains coat complete with gold braids. This time I am taking a pirate wench costume purchased at K-mart because the wool coat was just too HOT for the Caribbean.pirate:pirate:pirate:

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE dress for Pirate Night!!! I've convinced my crew to dress up but it hasn't been easy because they think they're going to look silly. I keep telling them they won't look as outrageous as me because I'm wearing the outfit I had for my last cruise when I knew people designing authentic Pirates of the Caribbean costumes JUST for that cruise!! Again, there won't be as many in our DIS meet this time, but just for reference...

(and yes, the front row 3rd from left IS dressed just like Captain Jack and he doesn't work for Disney! lol)

croppedpirates.jpg

Last cruise our dis-group was 91 families strong. There were MANY pirates on board pirate: pirate: I love to see the guys who go all out- some braid their beards -- so fun!!

Still haven't received the cruise Docs!!!
I'm hoping this isn't a repeat of my dress being delivered to the wrong house...

Ohhhh I'm in on the workouts! I am a little bit of a nut when it comes to that stuff. Just did pilates last night. I'm not a runner, but walking, Yoga, Pilates and (thoug I've never tried it) spinning would all be great!

Yes! another one! and I'll try the spinning, as long as you all know that I might quite half way through.

was just reading on DCL's website that they provide you with an ipod shuffle and complimentary water while you workout. There's really no excuse not to huh?:)

I had read about the ipod, but not the water. That's good to know. I'll be brining my own music, though, somehow I can't see Disney having a bunch of Violent Femmes and Clash songs on their shuffle.

I don't have an ipod (gasp!) Even though my husband and DD(9) have their own. Looks like I'll be walking/biking/etc. to "It's a Small World"!:rotfl2:

Seriously, though, I'm excited to see that some that we have a little "fitness" group! It will make it easier for me to put down my book and go move my butt!

Do you have heelspurs and/or plantar fascitis that make it difficult?

Both, of course. I do ok but anytime I decide to try walking/running any distance things really flair up.

Speaking of princess night..

You have had some fun meets. I love dressing up. We will be in the pirate spirit, but not full costume.

I have filled out all the online forms, registered everyone and now I have found this discussion board. I have also booked one excursion on St. Maarten (a downhill mountain trek), but nothing else.

I have heard there might be a 5K run at Castaway Cay, which I am interested in.

I guess the next pressing question is...what else should I be thinking about? I know we are only about 2 weeks away, but better late than never.

So many questions, so little time...

Welcome. We will also be doing the Mountain treck. I'm not expecting to see animals just a nice hike in the forest. I wanted to do something not beach related, lol.

If you have your cruise docs in order then I think just getting your packing list together is next. Of course you can ask any last min questions here.

Seriously, though, I'm excited to see that some that we have a little "fitness" group! It will make it easier for me to put down my book and go move my butt!

I'm excited about this too. Working nights, I don't have people I can work-out with on my schedule. This will be a fun change.

Probably more like "Let's get Physical" and "Sweat" but sung by Disney Channel 12 year olds. You enjoy that!

Seriously, though, I'm excited to see that some that we have a little "fitness" group! It will make it easier for me to put down my book and go move my butt! I think we should all meet for the morning classes, and then go to Parrot Cay for breakfast and Bloody Marys

Both, of course. I do ok but anytime I decide to try walking/running any distance things really flair up.
I don't know if you've gone to therapy for them, but I've got a few exercises that really, really help out. It's something that I have to deal with quite a bit, being a ballet teacher.

You have had some fun meets. I love dressing up. We will be in the pirate spirit, but not full costume. I'll be in the spirit too, but not really a costume. I got a pirate princess jersey dress down in Disneyland a couple of months ago, and I have a scarf that has skulls and cross bones all over it. DH wants to dress up, but he has to come up with the costume on his own, I've got too much to do!

I'm excited about this too. Working nights, I don't have people I can work-out with on my schedule. This will be a fun change. Yay!

I need to go use that Lucy gift certificate DH gave me...

Just got off the phone with Disney, and my documents should be sent in the next five days. Really? You're killing me, Disney!

I checked the UPS site and it said that mine were scheduled to arrive on January 5th. Wow. No cabin assignment yet so I guess it will be assigned literally at the last minute. By the way, I am in for spinning. That's the one thing that I can do with a stress fracture.

Has anyone checked online for a room assignment? I had mine from a GYT in just tow days... I am looking forward to a real yogo or pilates class for beginners. I have tried in on WII fit, but want to try the real thing.

My husband is the runner, but I may walk the 5K.

I am so excited my dresses fit, but ordered a new one to try on anyway. Hopefully it gets here...

Hi everyone. I posted way back in the first thread. I am a lurker but decided to say hi again.:goodvibesIt’s DH Gary 41, Me Joleen 35, DS 12yr, DS 18months, DD 6mo, DM (dear mom? Sure I’ll tell everyone she is 59), and DG (dear Grandma 84)

This is our third cruise. Me, DH and kids just went in Oct 09 Western. This trip was intended for getting my grandma and my mother on a family cruise, moms first. My sister was to come but chickened out. :sad2:What was she thinking?

I think in St Thomas DH and I :love:am doing the all day sail, snorkel and honeymoon beach. Grandma and mom are taking the two boys to the butterfly and island tour and then back to the ship (baby girl goes to Flounders till they get back).

In St Maarten I am hoping for Bernard’s, I just sent a message inquiring about reservations an hour ago. Wish us luck.:thumbsup2

We are land locked here in CO and enjoy the beach. :beach: Gosh the water is soooo warm. I am from San Diego and thought the beach was no big deal and cold. Then I felt the water in the Caribbean in Oct 08 & 09. OMG, I love the beach! The beach is now my favorite part. We are also leaving snow and the cold behind so even 60’s is going to be swim suite weather for us. So for now we look foreward to seeing the beach.

We fly in on Wend and are staying two days at Universal. We are on site and am hoping we don’t regret paying the outrageous prices to stay on site. On Friday we are staying at a cheap hotel near the airport (we pick up DG at 6 on Friday she is coming in from San Diego) We did Disney in 08, off site at an economy and really regretted it. We wish we had just spent the extra for on site.
Has anyone done Universal? Any recommendations or helpful hints?

For the newbie’s I would look into Palo dinner, and/or Brunch right when you first get on (if you have no reservations now), then it should not be to difficult to get. Also look into any beer, wine, martini or margarita classes. They are 15pp. I did the martini tasting and was disappointed. However, DH did the beer tasting and thought it was great and worth it. I think I am trying the wine or margarita tasting this time. Any suggestions? After two years of babies and BF.... bring on the liq.:rotfl: I have heard of these selling out the first day. In October the tastings were not full. We also had to cancel one person to cover the kids, so even if they do sell out ask to be wait listed if interested. Also you can request to be wait listed for early seating for the one who asked. We were wait listed for early seating and got it. Then try again when you first get on. There is also tea with Alice (? I think that’s right) and I heard often these book the first day.

Also some people get to the port early. There is often Mickey or Minnie to get pictures with. There are tv’s playing Disney movies and a replica of the ship that is interesting. Then once on ship you eat lunch and swim, explore the ship and such. Others are in no rush to get on ship. Early is 10ish, with boarding around 11:30ish.
I personally enjoy getting there early.:rolleyes1

For everyone, this ship is full. I tried to add my niece and they said there was no room left, the life boats are at max and would not add her.

Great to be cruising with you all. Nice to see a another boy was added.

Well that's just another excuse to book another one onboard so she can go next time:).

I'm sure you'll have no problem getting into Bernards group. He gives a great tour. Your 12 y/o will enjoy Maho Beach.

Good to know. I'm going to go for the tastings right away. Last time DF's fiance got them the day of. But I don't want to chance not getting them. I've heard they were really good but never made it last time. I also want to do the galley tour. I got the tea with Alice tickets a day or 2 before, but I don't think I'm going to do that again. Of course DD7 may have different ideas princess:. It was "cute" to see once, but I'm not jumping up to do it again.

Guess no chance for ANOTHER upgrade;). Oh well, quite happy with the one I got anyway.:woohoo:

Great to be cruising with you all. Nice to see a another boy was added.

Will you be coming to the Meet???

I don't think the ship is completely full since you can still book balcony staterooms on Orbtz. I wonder if it is just the lifeboat in your section of the ship? :confused3

I can't wait. I'm starting to think about packing. I'm going to try and get all packed this weekend instead of last minute like I normally due.

I was thinking about that too, especially since the clothing being worn on the ship is the complete opposite of the clothing I'm going to need the next two weeks. At least I hope we won't need wool and gortex on board.

How did you get them in advance? This is our 4th time on DCL and I have yet to go to "Tea". We've been trying so long Wendy has already retired:lmao: Now it's tea w/ Alice. Probably best as Disney is releasing a new Alice movie soon.

Seriously, I would love to know where to get tickets for my girls.

my kids started packing the day after we told them (Christmas). Funny I had to tell them DO NOT PACK UNDERWEAR!!! :lmao: What would they wear in the meantime :scared1:

Sorry, I meant a day or 2 before the tea. I got the tickets on Tues or Wed for the tea on Thurs. I just happened to see it in the Navigator & took a chance & went down to Guest Services & they had tix.

OK, I think I have got the acronyms now...so I have a DW and 3 DDs. And apparently I am the DH.

We are from the northwest suburbs of Chicago - Bartlett to be exact.

What else...

I will try and get everyone organized and join the DIS Meet - 3PM at the Promenade lounge. I think I saw some other posts about wearing pirate costumes for some party one evening. I am sure I can get the kids to agree to come up with costumes. I'll have to work on my DW. Anything else we should pack? I was thinking about bringing my tux and my DW says she has a nice dress. Guess the DDs are next. Any other specific clothes we should bring other than our swim suits?

Given that it is now about 8 degrees outside, this cruise won't come soon enough.

We will be flying in from kansas city Friday night with our two Pirates Jack, soon to be 8 and Ethan, soon to be 5. We are staying at the airport Hilton before boarding disney bus to the port. I hope we see other families with young pirates.

Do we need to sign up for the 3 pm meet and greet? If so how?:confused3

Welcome!! No need to "sign up " for the dismeet, just come on over and meet your fellow dis'ers

Pirate night is fun for everyone.pirate: Wear comfy shoes if you do any walking excursions. As far as dress... we have one formal night, one semi-formal night, and pirate night. Other dinners would be considered cruise casual. The range of dress on any night is wide. Some folks "dress for dinner" each night. DH and I just try to look presentable. He usually sports a golf shirt to dinner. I wear whatever fits:rolleyes1
