Hi all! We will be starting our April vacation with flying in early for a week of Florida exploring and then will be going to AKL to start our disney part of the trip. We do not want to rent the car for the time we will be at Disney since we solely use the Disney transportation and don't want to pay for that extra week of car rental. Is it possible to use the magic express after we drop off the car rental to get to AKL? We won't have any flight information since we have been there a week already. I hope this makes sense! I will be calling the magic express line in a couple days as well but I wanted to ask the disney family here first since you all have the inside info ;) Thank you!

Yes, I believe it is! You're eligible to use DME for drop off at your resort on your check-in day and for pick up on your departure day regardless of what you're doing beforehand. I think when you call to set up DME you'll just have to supply them with flight info for a flight arriving around the time you'd like to be picked up. You don't need to actually have seats on this flight- they're just using the arrival time to track their crowds and plan their bus schedule. Have fun!

Yep, as long as you are going to ME on the day you have a resort reservation you can use ME. Even if they don't show a "ME reservation" for you they'll see your resort reservation and you'll be allowed to board.

If you can find a flight that arrives at about the same time you anticipate doing your return you can give them that flight info. That will aid them in their logistics planning for the day. But it's not a must do.

Just curious, but are you going to drive to the airport to drop the car off and then ride DME to AKL?

This questions is best posted to the Transportation forum here on the DIS, rather than on the Resprts forum. There are many experts there that can advise you. It may be possible to rent from the airport for a week and then drop off right at WDW. You would not need to go back tot he airport and use DME

Yes you can, I did exactly this once.

And many times it is cheaper to return a rental car to the same location where you picked it up. A LOT cheaper sometimes.

So sorry! I did a quick search but I didn't realize there is a transportation forum! Sorry about that! I'll definitely check into car drop off points, that'd save us some hassle. Thank you!

Thank you everyone for the great info. I really appreciate it, you guys are the best! I feel more confident calling and getting our DME reserved now thanks to the info you all gave me. Thanks again!

Yes! Exactly
Another option is to drive to AKL, check in, then head over to MK and drop the car off at the car rental place right across from there. I think, though, only two rental companies work there(National and Alamo). You obviously would be needing to go to MK that day or just use Disney transportation from there. This would definitely save you some time. Just a thought.
