Magic Dining Room Rotation Advice

Well, DCL sent an email and our Pirate Night has changed. Grrrrr. So now pirate night for the Oct 23 sailing on the Magic is the third night (Grand Cayman night) and Halloween will be the fourth night (At Sea, formerly Pirate Night). They also swapped all the BBB appointments that were on Day 3 with those on Day 4.

I imagine this means that the dining rotation has changed. On hold with DCL to find out. Because with the current rotation, everyone will miss the main meal in one MDR.

Well, DCL says that the dining rotations haven't changed. So basically everyone is guaranteed to miss one main menu in the MDR. Odd.

I'm confused. What do you mean by saying that "everyone is guaranteed to miss one main menu in the MDR?"

Because if they stay LACLA, ACLAC, and CLACL, they will have a MDR on nights one, two, and four (with the third night being pirate night), so the first MDR would be repeated on the first and fourth nights. I'm thinking they will be changing them to the LAACL, ACCLA, and CLLAC rotations....the CMs just don't know it yet.

I doubt very much I will request a particular rotation for our upcoming November cruise. Just doesn't seem to make much difference. However, what is your opinion regarding requesting actual dining staff?

I'm hoping that is how it will turn out. I am planning on asking for ACCLA with Palo on our first Carioca's night.

Well, unless it's someone you've actually had as a server, I don't really see the need.

If you're looking for someone else to make a recommendation for a server (that they had good experiences with), it doesn't necessarily mean that they will mesh with you.

We've never requested a server, and always had good experiences with them.

If you do decide to request a server, be aware that it's best to only make one request (a specific server, or assistant server, or head server). If you ask for a serving team, it's quite likely that they are no longer teamed (serving together), and conflicting requests (more than one) may mean neither one will be honored.

Also, if we are a family of 8, all with linked reservations, may we assume that we will likely get placed at an 8-top? I can't imagine that they would stick 2 people with a family of 8.

You are most likely to have an 8 top by yourself. Typically that's the largest table in the dining rooms.

Yah, I might call back closer to sailing. Maybe give them a week or two to sort this out. When I logged in yesterday to change my Palo reservation, it was still showing Pirate Night as being night 4, but my daughter's reservation for BBB had been moved to day 3. It's sort of a mess. I'm not sure what's going on there.

Ok, so I am on the same cruise and am feeling stressed about what a good option is for dining. It's our first cruise and we want to do one night at palo. I just switched our reservation from the last night to night 4 since pirate night changed. Was this wise? Just feel like we are going to miss a restaurant no matter what so maybe Cariocas is the one to miss.

What does Halloween night entail?

Thanks!

We're opting to miss Carioca's and have our Palo reservation on pirate night.

As for Halloween activities, I've not done a Halloween cruise before, so I can't comment, but I have researched previous Navigators and read here in the DIS and it seems that there is some candy handout in the atrium, people dress up and there may be other activities. We plan to dress up.

Ok, then if the dining rotations do change I'll request accla. Change my palo to the 2nd night and then do pirate night at cariocas. Wjile it may be cliche, I want to have fun with my little one for the pirate night and also participate in Halloween activities.

We are doing Palo on pirate night, but we plan to participate in the festivities too. :) We shouldn't have an issue attending the pirate show and enjoying Palo.

I know. I'm just so conflicted and don't know what the best option is. I'm likely driving myself (and Disney) crazy since I keep switching my reservation. I think your plan is maybe the best one!

Hi! Did you end up calling to ask about the rotations?

I did and it was a disaster. It was last week and the CM was really clueless. He kept saying "you'll either be in Animators, Lumiere's or Carioca's." Thanks dude. We went round and round and round. Finally I asked if I could ask someone else and he said he would put me back in the queue. WHAT!?! Then I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me they hadn't updated them and she didn't think that they would at this point, but we would have to check back closer to sailing, within the last couple of weeks. So... yah. I'm not eager to call again after that experience. What a mess.
