Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

okay, this probably a dumb question but:

If you paid for dcl ground transfers, and you are on the dcl bus, if it broke down or got stuck in a traffic accident where the road was closed, would the ship still wait for you because you are on their bus?

yes!

We'll be at the taping of the Christmas Parade on Dec 4th too!!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3: But we'll be in Disney World. We'll be thinking of you! We will be sporting our red personalized t-shirts for the cruise and embroidered mickey santa hats of course. hehehe we are so corny! :sad2:

The filming at DL was 11/5. We did not make it this year. I think your wardrobe choice is not corny; it is fabulous. I am DVRing the Disney Christmas because I do not know if we will be able to see it on the ship.

Please take some pictures and post them.

Just got some great news.

For the past month, we had been trying to convince my DW's parents to come on the cruise with us. When they finally agreed, there were no verandahs which was a deal breaker for my FIL who loves to sit out and read. We even offered them our room but no go. Thanks to the diligence of our TA a verandah became available this weekend and they went ahead and booked it.

This is very special for us because my MIL had part of her kidney removed in September and it was 50/50 whether she would pull through. After a couple of months of rehab, she now only needs a cane to get around.

With my FIL and oldest DS discussing current events, our cruise dinner discussions will suddenly become a lot livelier.

Good morning,

Does anyone know if you can check a plastic storage tub as one of your pieces of checked baggage? I'm having trouble fitting my FE's in a suitcase in a manner that will not damage them, so I was thinking maybe a plastic container would work...

Thanks!

sure, just be sure it's taped up real good

Ships are known for sailing as scheduled, but there are back-up busses, alternate routes and extra time built into the schedule. I think it would be very unlikely that a breakdown or road closure would result in missing the ship unless it was the latest possible flight and there were multiple mishaps along the way... a lot of things would have to go wrong to miss the boat.

I am 50 have BS in Liberal Arts and an MBA and work as a commercial real estate appraiser. Retired from the USMCR after 28 years of service, including about 7 years of active duty, but don't collect a pension until age 60.
My DW will turn 48 on the cruise and is a Mayflower Descendant. Met her in business school; smartest girl in the class.
That makes DS16, DS15 and DD13 Mayflower Descendants, not to mention Sons of Confederate Veterans, and they have a bonifide Irish grandmother.
We have three rescued pets :dog::dogdance::ccat: and I am not even a pet person, in fact, I am allergic to them.
I grew up in central Florida and am sort of a beach bum and dig surfing, fishing, camping, etc.
My favorite part of the cruise is boarding and the first day, and leaving all my day-to-day concerns on the pier.
One of my first jobs was as a seasonal worker at Tomorrowland Terrace (circa 1978) at WDW. Also used to be SCUBA instructor.
Am fully Harry Potter qualified (all books and films).
I will pack for the cruise on the night before.
I bring a little flask poolside for spiking my DOTD to get it just right.
pirate:

I too have a degree in liberal studies, which was very handy this weekend when I was helping my DD with her essay on the French Revolution.

My DH was a marine (once, always). I love a man in Dress Blues. Also, DH would pack the night before the cruise if I let him.

We have two recused dogs. No cats...MY DH is the only cat person in our household.

I cannot wait for the HP movie to be released this weekend. I just read Book 7 again.

Disneydash - that is great news. And to the family with the mom who is recovering from quad heart bypass. My DH had open heart surgery about 5 years in Jan in the dead of winter up here. We had vaca plans , and the docs said it was OK to keep them and go one month later. Our family took slow walks thru the World, and he recuperated in the warm Fla weather. Disney is a great place to recuperate.

Sarah - about the bus. We always say, "Once we get on the bus, we are on the cruise!"

I'm Vanessa (34), and my husband Matt (also 34...we're exactly one month apart in age) and I will be celebrating our 13th anniversary on Dec. 27th. We have DS (10), DS (7), and DD (3).
I was born in New York but have lived in Florida for 27 years...just a quick drive to the mouse's house! My husband was born and raised in Lakeland and had his first plane ride on our honeymoon!
I have piles to pack but haven't actually done anything with them. Should probably buy another suitcase or two! :rolleyes1
We are definitely a dress up and match for pictures kind of family! I might as well enjoy it now as I'm sure that my boys are only a year or two away from putting an end to that!
I love to read but have been so busy that I haven't read in awhile. I'm looking forward to loading up my Kindle for the cruise :thumbsup2
My husband and I met while at the University of Florida where I got my BA in English, and he got a BS in Biological Sciences. I went on for my MEd in Elementary Education while he went through medical school. He's now a self-employed pediatrician, and I just had my final defense for my dissertation in Curriculum and Instruction. I graduate with my Ph.D. on Dec. 11th, so we'll really be celebrating on this cruise :cool1:
I'm a SAHM but will be working at the university part-time beginning in January.
I really want to travel more, but for now, we are SO content with DCL and cruising! Our kids love it and so do we :goodvibes
It's so fun learning more about everyone! Can't wait to see you onboard!

You have A LOT to celebrate! What a wonderful place to do it, Sailing on the Magic at Christmas!

Congratulations on your achievement. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Me - 47, DD's 21 & 14.
Other member of our family is a cockapoo named Stitch.
I was born in FL but have lived in Las Vegas, SoCal, VA, NC, TX, and now IA. I plan to move back to FL once DD graduates in 2014.
We own DVC - BWV & SSR.
I have an Accounting degree but I'm a SAHM. I really want to become a Travel Agent.
I love to travel and plan trips - anytime I can travel is a good time, but my three favorite trips are: 2004 Christmas Cruise, 2007 Med Cruise, with London and Paris tacked on, and taking my parents to Scotland
I have stayed in both the Walt and Roy Suites(wish I had one for this cruise)
I love to watch college and pro football and I am a HUGE NASCAR fan!

And...

We are doing the Doc Dance!:dance3::cheer2:party:

LeLani, I am dancing for you. While speaking of dancing...What about DWTS? Everybody did such a great job last night. Bristol wasn't even that bad. I enjoyed her Paso, but the night belonged to Kyle and Jennifer. Both danced amazing dances.

I look forward to meeting you at the Hyatt on the 17th.

31 days til vaca

Love it!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::love::love:

That's good to hear. We're getting picked up from WDW POFQ so no flight delays to worry about :goodvibes

We were delayed due to snow in Cincinnati airport a couple Xmas cruises ago, called DCL 1-800 number to make sure they knew we were coming (knew we were not the only ones headed to Mickey's boat waiting in that gate by the conversations around us) and they were already aware of our dilemma! When we got to Orlando airport the stewards asked everyone who was NOT getting on a cruise (disney and others) to sit tight and let the cruise-bound folks get off first. Though not everyone followed those directions (people. What can you do?) we were able to scoot off and get on a Magical Express bus. Made the ship just as emergency drill was occurring! We watched more people getting shuttled onto the ship via cargo ramps even later! Mickey waits when he knows you are coming, apparently.:woohoo:

(Warning: this is NOT true when in ports if NOT on DCL excursions! :rolleyes1)

Penny

Have I mentioned lately how stinkin' excited I am for this trip? :cool1::banana::woohoo:

Caryn

(and :dance3: for High Tea ressies becoming available and relatives able to come along and buses with portholes!)

I am also curious what a Wave Phone is?! I do not have a page 39 of my booklet either and I don't see anything about it in my docs... :confused3

I can't wait to ride the bus - I've never seen a bus with porthole windows before! :goodvibes

What time do they normally pick up at in the morning? Would we have time to eat breakfast at one of the hotels?

It depends on where you are staying. Last year we were at the Contemporary and booked the earliest Chef Mickey - we were told that would give us time for breakfast before the bus - we than had a few hours to blow after breakfast! It was nice, we played in the BLT kids club area and waited in the lobby and met new friends that were sailing with us - I was wishing we had booked a later breakfast...smile...but better to be early than miss the bus! We also ate where we were staying so didn't have any transport time with the meal.

I had to check it out...lol We always call them pagers but here is from the DCL website:
Registration and Check-In
You can register your child for Disney's Oceaneer Lab at the terminal or once onboard the ship.

When boarding the ship on Embarkation Day, both children and parents must check in at the front desk at Disney's Oceaneer Lab, on Deck 5, Midship. During this confirmation process, parents will fill out final paperwork and receive a Wave Phone in the event the counselors need to make contact. Additionally, children will receive a wristband indicating that that they are part of Disney's Oceaneer Lab.

Yesterday, I accidentally took the wrong meds. I took two 350 mg of Norco instead of my Plaquenil. I was clueless that I did this. Driving to work, I became dizzy, light-headed, and I had a strong urge to toss my cookies. I made it to work, but I could not function. They called the school
nurse, and we figured out what had happened. They called my DH to come pick me up from school because I was "sick." So I spent the next 24 hours in bed or throwing up. Even when my DD ran into our bedroom and announced that our docs arrived, I could not get excited. Crisis! I am home from school today because I have dr. appt's and an MRI for my TMJ (which the Dr said is one of the worse cases that he has seen). I will have surgery after the first of the year.

Now for our Docs Dance
:cool1::cool1::cool1::dance3::yay::yay::yay:

Next, Introductions...

I am 21 years old with 20 experience. I had several careers, but all have been in education. I have been a general education and special education teacher, a program specialist, and presently, I am an assistant principal at a middle school, which has been an amazing experience. I love my family and spending time with them, especially at DL. I am crazy about everything Disney. We are annual passholders. We go to DL and DCA as often as we can. My other hobbies are fashion, reading, and walking. I am passionate about staying healthy and fit. I have RA. This doesn't defined me, but it is part of who I am. My lifestyle has been adjusted to accommodate my aching joints. It is under control most days, but I do get flare-ups.

I am married to a wonderful man,who is younger than I am. I was a cougar before Courtney Cox made it cool. He is a peace officer. I am also the proud mother of Raven. She ice skated for over 10 years. She shot up to 5-10 and lost many of her jumps so after a lot of discussion, she decided to focus more on dance. Now, she is on her school's dance team and loves it.

I enjoyed reading about all of you. I cannot wait to meet you. It is almost here. Can you believe it?

Take care and talk to you soon.
