Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Has anyone been to ICE! at Gaylord Palms. We were looking at it today and they also have snow exhibition now. Any reviews? Is it popular/worth the money?

Colette

Live in Orlando, been 3 times in the past couple years. If you have never been, do it. It is pretty neat, my kids have never seen real cold weather so it was a cool experience for them.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. :)

Aaron(bigAWL) - I would like to ask a favor(or two) please.

On the first post could you please change the wine tasting event to show that it is Monday, Dec 20th from 1-2pm. I don't have a location yet but when I get one I'll let you know.

Second thing, could you please add a teen meet to the first post. The details right now are: embarkation day (Dec 18th) at 2pm on Deck 10 above the Goofy Pool, starboard side of the ship.(Which I believe should be the same side that the terminal is on)

You can re-word these if you want, I have a tendency to ramble.

Thanks so much!

yes we have been about 5 years back... it is neat, and it is COOOOOOLLLLD... it is expensive, but worth doing at least once... the things they do with ice is incredible.

We are getting euros - I read you need them for Guadaloupe, Martinique, and maybe the French side of St. Martin.

By the way, The DCL website says to leave your passport on the ship (unless I misread it) - how can you go to these "foreign" countries without your passport?
:confused3

Disney have the passport information (from when we check in) This info is then given to the necessary authorities, probably in advance. Same with people traveling on just their birth certificates. I have read that if you really so desire, you can leave your passport at guest services and they will get it stamped. However I have no idea if that is something they still do.

So it's not like they don't know you are coming! They will have a list of passengers to check. You will have been documented in some way. Cruise ships do seem to have a whole different set of rules!

I asked Shirley at The Perfect Gift about her trees for a cruise and this is what she sent, if anyone is interested:

Here is a better picture of the boxwood tree and this can either be decorated with flowers or lights and ornaments - I will send you a picture of the artificial tree next -this is 24 inches high and it really is very pretty and sells for $75.00
I know the trees that DCL offered and they were made by a wholesaler down South and were not done the way they were suppose to be done but when you make mass production, you will not get what you expected.
Ours are made from fresh boxwood greens and takes close to 2 hours - they are made with wet oasis which are soaked for several days to make sure they are wet through and through, then the building begins - it is put in a container that holds water so that water can be added to it as need be. The trees are about 24" tall and totally decorated with ornaments and battery lights (we send extra batteries) - here is a picture of one, but it is just off the Internet to give you an idea, but ours are fuller.
They will last and no they will not stink - we have sent many to the ship including artificial ones that could be taken home in a box.
Let me know if you have any further questions
Always

That is very pretty. I have spoken to Shirley, I was thinking about getting just a plain tree to decorate ourselves, and she seemed fine with that also.

In regards to Euros, we were able to exchange right on the ship during the Med cruise. It was very convenient albeit a bit more expensive. It was nice to know that they will buy back any leftover Euros at the same rate as long as you keep your exchange receipt. That's the best benefit.

Would this be for brunch? If so, we might be interested (have to check with DH) since we booked too late to get brunch.

I was trying to find a post where someone was trying to oragnize a group, I thought for Brunch. Was this it?
We (Kevnbren) would be interested.

Pooh pals and Big hugs for Eeyore what part of England are you from? We are just outside Bristol in a small town close to the Severn bridge. We can see over to Wales from our marina.

Did Shirley send you a picture of the artificial tree? If so can you post? Also, to the poster who wanted an undecorated tree from Shirley. What kind of prices/descriptions were you given?

Thanks.

From Shirley:
Hello Melanie,
Here is what we did last year except we added ornaments and lights to it - also the picture of the boxwood that I sent you can be done as artificial tree also $75.00
Yes they do - they come in a box so they can be taken home safely. (I asked her if this one can be taken home.--Melanie)
Thanks for your help since being a small mom and pop shop, economy not so good, everything little bit helps so thanks from the heart
Always
Shirley

Melanie talking now: I think she is willing, happily so, to make the tree however you'd like it to be. (I think this picture is just a generic one, not one she's done) Real or not, decorated a certain way, or not. I know when I used her last cruise, several years ago, I sent stuff ahead I wanted to be used in my welcome baskets. I bet if there was something in particular you wanted on a tree, you could send it ahead and she'd do that. I don't know that, but I'm guessing.
Anyway, coming from a dad with a mom and pop, I always like to try and help the "little guy." Disney is getting enough of my $$ :)

Ok all - I am just going to be up front and tell everyone - shocking stuff - my DH and DS DO NOT dress up for the cruise. We are a pretty relaxed family about that stuff, and I must say, I can't blame them for not wanting to wear a tie and wool jacket in the tropics. We are from Minnesota, and like a lot of you, we get to be warmly dressed much of the year. We take our tropical vacations very seriously up here. Of course, my DH will be dressed nicely for Palo - but if I recall, nice dress slacks and a nice "Ricky Ricardo" shirt shd suffice.

I am also always trying to keep the amount of luggage and baggage fees down.

The last cruise we were on, we told our servers and the head of the dining room that the "boys" didn't bring ties or suit coats. We said that if they didn't want us to eat in there on formal nights, we were really fine with it. We also said we would tip for those nights even if we didn't show up. (We usually miss one dinner a cruise.) We have gone to Topsiders a few times, and had the scaled down menu and wine. Our servers told us that it was much more important to them that 1) repeat cruisers like us are kept happy and 2) they want us to be comfortable.

I don't know how much more formal a Xmas cruise may be - my DD and I will be formally dressed. But, I don't blame the boys for wanting to be comfortable. It is such a waste of space and money for us to have the boys haul down nice shoes (dress shoes ar heavy!) ties jackets...and then change out of them immediately after dinner. We will miss a formal picture - but we will take nice lifestyle portraits.

So flame away! We really like to be relaxed on vacation.
