Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

My parents are doing the Docs Dance. They received them today. :dance3::dance3::dance3::banana::banana::banana:

No Docs delivered to Grananda Court yet, but we are anticipating their arrival any day now.

Lori and Rick, I am glad that you had a relaxing and enjoyable time on our cruise. Also, I am totally in for a DOTD pin. Thank you.

Joann and Vicki, I love your dresses. They are fabulous.

Renee, I appreciated the Passporter link. Great 411! The more I read about Christmas aboard DCL, the more I get excited.

About the couples massage, Sandra, we loved it. It is so relaxing. If I recall correctly, we upgraded to a hot stone massage, which is my favorite.

Yesterday, my sister and I shopped until we dropped for our cruise: one formal dress, three sundresses, two pairs of flip-flops, and one pair of peep toed black pumps later we left the mall happy with visions of our cruise dancing in our heads.

My DD leaves for her confirmation retreat this Friday, and we leave for Vegas next Sunday. Wow, time is flying; soon, we will be boarding the Magic.

Things that I am looking forward to: BIL's 50th BDay party, Raven's Confirmation Retreat, the Harry Potter movie, Vegas, Spa Day at the M Resort, and Black Friday:-)

Take care and talk to you soon.

Does this look at all like a pirate costume? Or do I just look like the president of the DOTD club. :rotfl:

I am an Army flight surgeon, and will have a stock of scopolamine with me if anyone needs them. Feel free to hit me up!
I wish I could use that but after a few days my vision turns upside down. Not good when you are trying to scuba dive. I am hoping the wrist band will be ok for me. Doesn't the Boninie make your children super tired? Maybe that is the master plan? Lol!

Is anyone doing escursions on their own and not through Disney?

Anyone found any hidden gems? I'm knee deep in www.cruisecritic.com and www.tripadvisor.com.

Please PM me if you would rather not send to everyone. Looking for something to do on Guadeloupe, Barbados and St. Martin.

Thanks!

We are!!

Not sure about hidden gems...but we're doing the Silver Moon 12 person cruise in Barbados and going with Bernard's Tours in St. Martin....Wish I could find something unique and family-friendly in Guadeloupe but so far the only thing we could find was through shore trips and it was way too pricey...

We have booked a few excrusions and are working to finalize our list. When I was trying to catch up on posts I thought I had read a post about a port where the beach was quite shallow, you could walk out some distance and stick your face in to see fish. However after spending an amount of time that I won't publicly admit to I can not find reference to this post? Did I dream this? :scratchin

Thanks for your help.

I agree your costume is awesome.

Oh good! I had half my closet out trying to conquer the pirate costume. Glad it doesn't look too bad. I need a better red sash though. I just grabbed the tie I bought for my hubby. Do you see anything I'm missing or should remove? I'd love the help. I'm not as creative as I used to be when the kids were young. pirate:

I didn't see the tie as a tie until you mentioned it. I think your creativity is flowing....go with it. :thumbsup2

Are you in St. Lucie by Vero Beach. We love Vero Beach DVC but unfortunatly the noseems there love me too much. Both times I have visited I have had terrible reactions to the bites, that no one else in my family seems to attract. Does this just mean I am sweeter then the othes in my family....:goodvibes

I am in St Lucie! I also own a couple condos in Vero Beach near the Disney Vero Beach resort that we rent out. We had dinner on the island one night at dusk and the noseeums got me too!. Everyone else was fine. I felt under attack that night. I actually took the sheets off, foam topper and mattress pad off the bed in the middle of the night because I swore something was attacking me like fleas or bed bugs. My poor hubby was so tired and still so sympathetic. It was only me, no fleas, no bed bugs. lol That lasted at least a week! It was awful! I had been to the beach for dinner tons of times with no problem, I don't know why that time was different but I'll never forget it. :sad2:

Pirate outfit is great! pirate:

I am remembering that post -- there was a photo attached. I think it was either St. Maarten or St. Thomas. THAT narrows it down!

Thank you everyone for all the replies! :cheer2:

@ BBQMommy: Thank you! I hope its the next of many too! Congrats on being a first time cruiser too and we are all looking forward to it too! What things are you guys looking forward to the most?

@ MommyLisssa: Thanks! I'm an OB nurse and have heard from many people that the patches can be lifesavers! I got my script for them and am going to make my DH get one too! By the way a huge THANK YOU for all you do! :worship: We were an Air Force family for 9 years so I know how hard it can be sometimes!

@ disneydash: Thank you! We are hoping for an awesome vacation! Did you try to get a Palo Reservation online? DH had no problems getting a dinner reservation when we booked our excursions but we may of lucked out on that one because I have heard they can be hard to get. You mentioned that you also love the parks...have you ever done the MVMCP? We are thinking about doing it on December 16 before the cruise since we are going down a few days earlier! D

@momssurprise: Thank you for all your great tips! Our 3 year old is already listing off the disney characters she wants to meet. We plan on using the patches also and we have dramamine on hand! When do you drop the items off at Guest Services? Is it at the beginning of the cruise? Also have you ever done the Tea with Alice? I've been wondering if they will have that on this cruise!

@ DVC4US: Thank you! We can't wait to meet everyone too! We are only a few hours away from Orlando so we are getting very antsy to leave for the cruise! :woohoo:

@ 3PrincessGrandma: Thank you! This board is great and BIG AWL has certainly done a great job! :thumbsup2 The Scopolamine prescription is the way we are going to go too! I have heard that it can cause extreme drowsiness. Have you ever had any side effects from it? Good luck on getting all your FEs together...we are in the process of doing*+ it too! :yay:

@Liz Arjay: Happy Early Birthday! I am sure we will have a once in a lifetime birthday since it will be on the cruise!

@ Marcy Mouse: Thanks! I hope the meds we are going to use kick in too! We definitely don't want to be too sick to eat..especially on the first night!!! I am hoping that it won't be an issue...I remember getting really sick a few times that I went out on the ocean home in Canada but those are some of the worst sea conditions compared to cruise weather I'm sure!

I hope I didn't leave anyone out that dropped me a line! Anyone feel free to do so...we are looking forward to getting know as many people as we can! :cool1: O

Thanks so much to those who posted responses regarding the couple's massage. We were really hoping Disney had a male and a female who did the couple's massage but apparently they only have females. We still have a bit more time to decide whether or not we are going to do this. Everyone certainly indicates it is a great experience but I am not big on the unknown (or firsts). We will see. I do appreciate the information everyone sent though. Maybe I should take the advice of taking my money and running now before we get addicted to this.

My husband has been posting on the boards for a few weeks now but I figured I am would log on and say Hello too :cool1: This will be our first cruise and we are hoping we made the right decision! We have two children...DD 3 and DS 11 mths at the time of the cruise  We tossed between spending 10 days at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or this holiday cruise since we wanted to do something special this year for the holidays and my birthday on December 27 as it will be my first one in two years Cancer Free! I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer two years ago and its been a challenging two years but all is well now :cheer2:
I just wondered if any of the repeat cruisers have any tips for us. We have signed up for the FE group and are doing some of the family friendly excursions for all ages. We are doing dinner at Palo and the kids will be attending Flouders on a few different days! Is Palo as good as everyone says it is? I guess my main concern is if the kids will have fun on the cruise given their ages? :confused3 Then the other thing that keeps crossing my mind is getting sea sick... I am a nurse and was recently told by a patient that the motion sickness patches work wonders. The day we booked the Disney Agent told us that we are in the best area of the boat for first time cruisers. We are on Deck 7 mid ship with a verandah so hopefully they were right! We are really looking forward to this vacation and by golly we don't want to spend it sick :yay:.
I look forward to meeting people from the boards as it seems like a great group!

Christie

Christie,

Congratulations on your recovery! Here's to many more special Christmases! :yay::cheer2::yay::cheer2:
The first time we cruised my DS was 3 and he loved it! It is magical for children. There are so many Disney characters to meet and so much to see and do. I think your DD 3 will love it. :wizard:
It was also my birthday on that cruise and all the Disney staff on board made it so special for me. Your birthday will be incredible as well! In fact you might want to start spending all your birthdays on board! (Wouldn't that be nice)
I have tried the sea bands and they helped a little with the sea sickness. I might try ginger products this year. Not sure if ginger really helps, but I think I am going to give it a try. I have to say I am prone, to motion sickness, but the cruise was very very mild.

:) SwimMama (Jo)

Just laughing at myself, I saw people posting"DISer's DOTD" and I read it as "DISer's do the DEED!" :lmao:

Looks like Fed Ex tried to deliver our docs on Friday and we weren't home, so have to wait till Monday. Ugh!

I can't believe how close it is!!!!

Hi JO!

Gosh wouldn't it be great to celebrate every birthday on a Disney Cruise especially on an 11 day one . We have been booked for about 6 weeks now after making the decision between the cruise and a resort. Thank god for the Florida Resident Rate! It helped us get a CAT 5 so we were very happy about that! :cheer2: I think the Disney Discounts would make it finanically sound for alot of Dis'ers to move to Florida :cool1::cool1::cool1:. All jokes aside though we are very happy to be able to go on this cruise especially after joining this board! I am probably going to pack some of the sea-bands too...we can never have enough motion sickness meds!!!:thumbsup2 I'm lucky that I am an OB nurse because most morning sickness meds help with motion sickness. I admit during both my pregnancies I was lucky enough to have morning sickness 24/7 so hopefully it was good practice for this cruise!

Ok I feel like I have blown up the board since yesterday. I had some free time and thought I may as well get to know people on here. My husband has been telling me to log on for weeks....guess he was right that I should have :rolleyes1

Is anyone doing the MVMCP on December 16? We had thought about doing it on the 17th but I guess there are no advance purchase tickets for that night. So I think we are going to go on the 16th since we can purchase tickets online in advance. With a 3 yr old and a 10 mth old I don't think we want to run the risk of not being able to get tickets on the 17th if we wait until then!

:grouphug:
Christie

We are doing MVMCP on the 12th. We figure the crowds will be less and we're there early to get back onto U.S. time before the cruise.

Can't wait! Now, if I could only get the printer to work so I could get my lesson plan done I could use an hour to work on FE gifts!!! :headache:

I am wondering if someone could give me an idea about getting on and off the boat on excursion days.

We have 2 diving excursions planned, and they are in the mornings. We have a 4 year old that will be in the Oceaneers Club while we are gone, but the thought of leaving her in there all day doesn't thrill me. Are we able to get right back on the boat after an excursion?

Also curious about any other on boarding/ off boarding protocol?
