Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Was thinking of you and your town, Melanie, when Mitch went yard -- :cool1:

We do not decorate much, but no big tree this year. My tabletop tree will be out and our cat sitter will make sure the big pressie for DD6 will be there before we get home. Disney is decorating for me this year. :santa:

We have lucked out with no political phone calls, but the daily negative ad fliers in the mail are awful. We got 6 in one day last week, all for one race! :scared:

It can never hurt to try Jedi Mind Tricks on the Magic, TheBeadPirate, you never know :wizard:

I am on Goblet of Fire in my 2 Day Potter-A-Thon :goodvibes

So sad to see the pounding St. Vincent got. One of my favorite vacations/places ever visited is a small private island in the Grenadines called Palm Island. Really no where to go to get out of a storm there :sad1:

Happy Sunday, Everyone! :cheer2:

Thanks for everyones replies. Daughter just informed here her best friend from NY also invited her to the Justin Bieber concert for next year! So, if i tell her she can't go to the FL one, but she can go to the NY one......Hmmm, details.flights, when is it, our school breaks are not the same...I can deal with that all after our cruise!! Solved!!

Lori - We were in Key West last month and my kids loved cruising around town in a Nev. Brought back memories of Celebration. I think we'll wait a few years though to introduce them to Fantasy Fest:rotfl:

Any locals planning on going to the Cape in early January when it gets here? If DH is in town, I would love to.

Happy Halloween to everyone.

Mickeysquared - that sounds like a solution, not an easy one, but a whole other adventure :goodvibes Glad you are recovering, I know I missed something in my post and it was that! :rolleyes1

I don't usually put up my Christmas decorations until the first week of December anyway, so that seems like a wash to do it this year. I'll put a wreath on the door, maybe a knick knack on the table, but certainly no tree and all that. Like Caryn, Disney is doing my decorating for me this year. :)
Caryn, just watched a new Deathly Hallows trailer this morning. Gave me chills and I'm not even a Potter-phile. I hope it is as good as it looks to be.

They played what seemed to be an extended trailer during the game last night -- I agree, chills  The book has so much information and back story that it will be very hard to cover all bases. 1 2-part movie is a good start :thumbsup2

Off to fix Snow White's costume. She got black marker on it at MK getting White Rabbitt's 'graph'. She will be wearing it on the boat, too -->

Happy Halloween Everyone!

We are headed outside to put up our 'grave yard scene'. Then dinner and trick or treating.

Have a great day.:flower3:

Now I'm nervous, DDs and I are trying to get all the way through Book 7 before the HP7 movie comes out in November. (We've already read it once, but need to refresh again.) I had hoped the movie would come to Uganda before we left because I'm not looking forward to trying to fit it into our agenda in FL - if we could even find a theater it was still playing in by mid-Dec.

But I just read an interview where the actors described it as very "gory." My girls are 7 and 9 - gory isn't really what I'm going for as far as movie experiences. I mean we've read the books, and movies 1-6 were fine for the most part because they knew what to expect. But am nervous that I won't be able to preview #7 before they see it. Thoughts???

Had a lovely Halloween - no trick-or-treating (really looking forward to that next year when we move home) - but had a great brunch with friends from church and then went to other friends' for an evening bbq.

Can't believe it's November already tomorrow!!!! :scared1: Boy, I really need to get moving on these FE gifts!

Well, my first thought is it will still be up in theaters, in the US, through January to get the school vacation crowd etc.

It does look gory. Have you seen the extended trailer online? Your girls sound very grounded and having read the book at least once they will be somewhat aware of what is coming, but it might be depicted in a manner they are not expecting, you know? I am happy to give you my opinion after seeing it, but I am a mother of a 5 yr old who does not yet know the HP story. It is a tough call. Anyway you could escape one evening for a late show and pre-view it and see?

Caryn

I've seen the extended trailer online - but not sure how much of that is part #1 and Part#2. The interview I read discussed Fred's loss of an ear and Ron's splinching, which evidently are more graphically depicted in the movie than in the book (although the ear scene was pretty clear in the book). Splinching never seemed terribly gruesome in the books, personally.

We'll see. If it doesn't come to Uganda, I'll rely on you guys to let me know how it differs from the previous films. :thumbsup2

3Princess: That is tough! I didn't let DD9 see HP6 for awhile but she hadnt gotten to that book so didn't know what was coming regarding Dumbledore. Ive just been cautious abt the HP movies b/c of potential nightmares--and b/c the books are so much better I dont want her to be a I'll find out from the movie person...but you don't have that problem! :)

Decorations: I went into a drawn out explanation abt why we should go light on decorations this year (back to back remodels, etc.)...bc I can't say I don't want to ruin 11 nights of relaxation with coming home to putting away decorations. Not sure how successful I'll be... bc DH loves Christmas! And we always do a live tree etc. But he uses a siphon system to keep it watered while we are skiing so that isn't a big deal, but darn I will be busy with laundry! Wish me luck with Christmas "lite".

Gorgeous day in SW Missouri. Now gotta go finish up in prep for our 700-1000 trick or treaters! Chicken Chili in the crock pot, dips ready to be put together, DH in good mood bc he shot an 85 today, witha triple bogie on a par 3. We will be rockin tonight---until at least 8:30!

Have a fab Halloween everyone! pirate:

We are not puting any decorations up this year mainly because we dont arrive home until the 8th Jan and I really wont feel like taking them down as soon as we are home.

I am doing the cc 5K!
My 2 sons are also planning to join me if they are allowed. I have read in a few posts that children have been allowed before and they can now run it in well under 40 mins. I may be joining some of the walking groups depending on how early I get up. But also will meet in the gym if someone wants a gym buddy.

I hope everybody has a safe and fabulous Trick or Treat Day. My Halloween will be very low-key. DD will be at a friend's house, and DH is working. I did not even purchase candies. I will be the Grinch of Halloween. I think it is going to be a Harry Potter movie marathon this evening for me. popcorn::

I was at the mall yesterday, and it is decorated for Christmas. :santa: That is bad manners especially before Halloween. We (I) decided not to decorate our home for Christmas. The main reason is that I do not want to get home from a relaxing trip and spend the last few days of my vacation doing laundry AND putting away decorations. :laundy:
What is everybody doing: decorating or not decoration?

Yesterday, there was a fire at DL's Paradise Pier. It does not sound like it was a major crisis. There was a fire in a restaurant's oven. :firefight

I know hurricane season ends at the end of November, but all these hurricanes so late in the season are making me a bit nervous. I hope they are all gone from the Caribbean by mid-December.

Happy Halloween

Take care and talk to you soon.

Things that I am looking forward to: the election (I want it over/ tired of phone calls and commercials); DD's Sadie Hawkins; my sister's birthday; 4 day Veteran's Day weekend, and Thanksgiving in Las Vegas!

.

Uh...yah....the Xmas decor before Halloween is a bit disgusting!

We (well..."I") will be putting out minimal decor for the holiday since we won't be here. I have a small woodsy type tree that is usually upstairs on the landing that I think we'll put in the living room. We got a new kitten in May, and although he's growing fast, there's still enuf kitten in him that we think a regular tree would be a BAD idea even if we were home for the holiday!

And....regarding leaving the critters (whoever asked that earlier...) we have a neighbor boy (college age) who cat sits...comes over and cleans up boxes, feeds, waters and plays with the kitten each day. We also have open invite to several neighbors and my sister/niece to come over and play with Dolce whenever they can. The more play he gets, the less he tortures the 16 year old cat who does NOT want to play with him! (at least that's our hope!) :sad2:

Just thought we'd let you know- the Magic looks in pretty good shape!

We've been in Key West the past couple days and went down to Mallory Square and watched her dock. It's hot today!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! :hippie:

Welcome to all the new families! :dance3:

I can't believe Halloween is here, Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and then time to cruise!! Since we booked this cruise a year ago it feels like we have been waiting forever! Last Christmas Eve we surprised the kids with the news that we were going on this Christmas cruise. We wrapped up Disney pins and gave them to them. I could not wait a whole year to surprise them.

Finally feeling ready for cruise. Bought dresses for formal and semi-formal nights, dress clothes for boys, pirate costumes ready to go (my DH and I are dressing up too) pirate:, and finally set up excursions and transportation. WooHoo!
Now all I have to do is wait for the final count on FE to get them ready. I am looking forward to our first FE with such a fun group of Disers :woohoo:

I think it is time to start running too! I am contemplating the Castaway Cay 5K. Anyone else running it? Or has anyone run it in the past who can tell me about it?

I hope everyone has a safe Halloween! I have to carve more pumpkins today, since the pumpkins my sons and I carved last week have already rotted...Yuck! :scared:

SwimMama :santa:

I am planning to jog the 5K! Wanted to do it on our Xmas 09 visit, but had a delayed docking due to high winds, so didn't want to delay the arrival to Serenity Bay with DH any more! :)

Here are some links I've found:

:banana::yay: Training!!!! :)

I know someone on this cruise has family in Barbados- I'm sorry, I don't remember who, but we wanted to send well wishes that all of your family is safe.

Apparently Hurricane Tomas needed to visit. Although it appears St Lucia took the brunt of the storm Weather Underground said Dominica and Barbados had some damage as well as flooding.

We had the Christmas decoration discussion the other day. I usually go all out, lights outside, inside. But it can often rain quite a bit here between Christmas and New Years....I can'tcount the number of times my luminaria have gone out. So, I am going to put some lights in the front window, inside, on a timer and only non light up decorations outside. That will have to do this year.

As far as the cat, our son,Mike, will have brought his cat here with him for the school break. We have had the next door neighbor kids do the feeding etc. But I think the mom got stuck with it the last time. Now, my mother has said she would come over every couple days and check on the cat, but she's not in the best of health. So......just not sure what to do.

Hey everyone.

Its midnight here in England so before I head off to bed I wanted to be the first to officially say:

:thanks:Thanks for the warm welcome! This is a great group and we are looking forward to meeting in person.:jumping1:

We have been :idea:plotting and planning about FE all day - should we or shouldn't we? Will what we want to use be ready in time? The list of questions floating in our minds goes on... I know the deadline is tomorrow so we will not miss our chance!

Thought there might be snow as a snow flurry passed through this afternoon, but it melted as quickly as it fell. It is chilly tonight for all the trick or treaters. Hope you have a safe and happy Halloween.

I had been away for a couple of weeks, so I may have missed some of the posts. If you have sent a Facebook request, please send me a Private message with your real name. I am doing my best to keep it limited to only people on the cruise in case folks are posting info that may be considered sensitive.

Had a great night here. Gave out candy with a neighbor and it was a very mild night for Iowa.

Just wanted to remind anyone on late dinning who might want to sit with other DISers to PM me their names and reservation numbers. We have requested the PLA rotation. I sent the original list to concierge tonight but anyone else who would like to join us can let me know and I will add them to the list.

Also, we have not gotten the final word from DCL about the Private Wine Tasting but if you would like to be included please PM me your names and reservations. Right now we have requested Dec 20th at 2pm for this event.
