Magic carpet ride

I'm new here (to the camping board) and I keep noticing that people talk about/post pictures of campsite rugs. I've never heard of or considered such a thing and I must say that it's brilliant! Will any outdoor rug work and are some materials better than others for this kind of thing? If it will help keep dirt/sand/whatever out of the tent, I'm sold! Plus it just sort of makes it all more homey.

It's actually a camping mat. Made of a plastic material weaved so there are small holes for dirt and water to fall/drain thru. Wal-Mart has them in the RV section in automotive.

Camping mats are the best. Could not imagine camping with out them.
