Magic Bands info for the new test dates in August

Did your FP+ times affect getting a regular FP at all?

Since the regular FP makes you wait until a certain time before obtaining a new FP, I'm wondering if that plays a role in double dipping at all.

:worship:Thanks for all the info! I am really crossing my fingers that all of this stays the same for August.

it has no effect afaik.

This won't be popular, I'm sure, but I kind of hope they stop the double dipping! For those of us going in August who aren't part of the testing, I'm thinking it will be even harder to get FPs. There will be all those who did FP+, so that many FPs off the top. And then those people can pull regular FPs along with the rest of us. So a smaller pool of available FPs, with just as many people trying to get them. Does this mean the hard to get ones will run out even earlier in the day?

I know what you mean... we'll be there in Aug with no FP+, and I'm nervously waiting until Aug 4 to hear reports and look at easywdw.com/waits to see whether there is a significant impact on when FP sell out.

Well, that blows. So it's definitely 3 (or 4, with bonus) FP+ selections per day.

Ok, what's that "4, with bonus" thing?

I selected all of mine, but never say a bonus. Is that only available if you select certain rides?

Thanks!! :goodvibes

I only received the bonus FP in MK. I selected Enchanted Tales, Splash and Big Thunder and it automatically gave me Pirates. Don't know how it is determined...........

we did that this morning and it works just fine. we have both tot and tsm paper fps at the moment.

So did you obtain paper FPs with the wristband, or did you have paper tickets? Will the double dipping be available when its just wristbands? How is it possible to get paper FPs when all you have is an rfid bracelet? So confused, sorry!

If I am doing the math right in my head, the only way they will run out earlier is if they dial back the regular FP machines to accommodate the number of FP+s they are giving out. On the flip side, if they didn't dial back the machines, then the lines could get longer on standby and even FP. Whether the testing is big enough to have an effect...I dunno.

I'm going in August too, and while I don't begrudge anyone, I am so annoyed that I am not part of this testing group!
Called uk disney today as we go in aug but staying off site. So wont be part of trial. They are aware of lines likely to get longer etc as people can double dip. Though lady said it shouldn't have a BIG impact... but admitted the maths on queue numbers cant do anything but effect the fp lines. :-(
Feel worried that fps return times will be pushed back so we will get less.

Current testers have a card as well. The bands do not work with existing FP kiosks.

I have been reading all of the posts about the testing coming up in August. We will be there from Aug. 12th-21st (staying at the BCV). I am also very concerned about the impact that double dipping may have on our vacation.
We only travel at busy times (I'm a teacher)- Easter, July, August- so know what busy looks like- and also when fastpasses run out during those busy times. If I go to get a fastpass for Space Mountain at noon- and they are out- I will contribute this to the ability of the testers to double dip. I will not be a happy camper! And I will complain. I am super happy for the people who are testing (and yes a bit jealous-lol)- and given the opportunity to double dip- you would be a fool not to.(and I would for sure! :)) We shall see how this all plays out.

Could someone whose booked their fp+ tell me, can you book different attractions for different people in your group or do they all have to be the same. Under fp- we always use half of our tickets to get 1 fp and half to get another at the same time since half our group won't ride anyway. Will this strategy still work under fp+?

You can split up the fp+ selections throughout the group, but you will likely have to trade magic bands when it's time to ride.

I don't think that "double-dippers" (if it is still possible) will really have that much effect. At best, the test is giving them three extra Fastpasses, potentially at headliners, in addition to what they might have ordinarily gotten. But how many of the testers are actually going to get duplicate FP/FP+? And how many of those would have done it anyways with just FP? Sure, a power user will be able to take advantage of it, although as it stands, without jumping through a lot of hoops, they can only do it once per attraction.

I have a feeling the number of guests doing this is probably small.

What do you mean by this? I was able to trade the POTC Bonus FP for DD and MIL to ride PP at the same time as DS and I ride HM (1-2p). I just assumed we would go our separate directions at that time.

I was told this morning by IT that you can use FP+ on some days and FP- on other days, but not both on the same day. She said the "system" will know if you have FP+ booked for that day and not let you get FP- that day. She also said you can opt out by not getting MB and not responding to the email. You will then have RFID cards that can be used in the FP-machines. We have to opt out as IT cannot fix our MDE for all 12 people in our party!

So if we are staying there 10 days we could try FP+ for say 5 days if we wanted to and then do regular FP the other days (assuming no double dipping is allowed?) I am probably jumping the gun as we do not have an e-mail yet but can customize bands etc on MDE...

I have a question about the testing that someone may be able to answer, I skimmed back a few pages and didn't see it posted anywhere, sorry in advance if I missed it!

I just got an email to participate in the Magic Band testing during our trip in August. The problem is, the party make-up is my mom, my sister, my son, and myself, we are staying in 1 room, but everyone is paying their own way (well, I'm paying for DS since he's 5!). The room charging thing isn't a big deal, I can put my cc on file, I'm sure no one would charge anything back to the room. The tickets are the issue, I bought DS and my tickets thru Undercover Tourist and DM & DSister are buying their tickets once we get there. I'm assuming we can't do the FP+ thing without the reference # on the ticket, right? So can we sign up now without that information? If we wait to link everything once we get there, will there be any good times left for the FP's? Because it sounds like to me you either use the Magic Band to get FP's or use your unlinked tickets to FP's at the machines. I really want to use the Magic Band, but this trip might not be the best one to try it out on!

Ok, our test day is over (grouchy kiddos and tons of tour groups don't mesh well).

The bands worked as intended the entire 2 days.

The front desk concierge CM managed to delete my entire itinerary within 30secs of me asking to switch out RNRC to TOT. This was part of our test assignment to request they make some changes. He had no idea what he did wrong and I had to tell him to get a manager who was unable to recover my itinerary and I had to book our day all over again and she couldn't recover our exact times so I'm not sure where they went off to. TBH I was pretty pissed off that he did something like that without understanding the consequences of him clicking away since it had taken me forever just to book those FP+ selections.

All the bands worked to open both our rooms and to gain access to the resort.

We were curious how they would handle the magic bands in regards to parking but we were just waved through when the CM saw the parking pass.

The bands all worked at the park entrance and the CM working the touch points was asking about the bands and told me that there were covers I could purchase for the bands that supposedly made them more comfortable. While I'm sure that he was trying to be helpful, it came across as a Disney money grab which seems really distasteful.

The bands all worked at the touch points and the merge points and at Star Tours they addressed the kids by their names which would have been nice but the kids had the bands all mixed up so it upset my ODS to be addressed by YDS's name. ( they are often confused as twins which was part of his over reaction)

Everyone who saw the bands and saw them in use (guests and cast) thought they were completely awesome and exciting. So I guess Disney hit the mark with that part of it. And we have the plain gray bands not a customized one.

I was able to double dip and we are park hopping later on so we will see if we can pull FPs at another park with the room keys.

I was not able to add more FP+ selections, I tried using the website and the app.

The bands are not connected to the park FP machines so our return time for TOT overlapped our FP+ time.

We gave away our TSM FPs so no guests were harmed in our experiments. LOL

The bands also worked at QS locations. We didn't eat TS or buy things so not sure of how they work there.

I will post this as a separate thread but I hope this answers some questions.

Yes in your case you would. What we mean by switching bands is that. I get a fp+ using my band for ride A at say 9 and a separate fp+ for ride B also at 9 using my kid's band because my kid won't ride either ride. Then I use my band to ride A and hers to ride B back to back in the same time frame. In this case, I will need to physically switch bands.

I just wasn't sure if you could select 3 different rides for each member of our group or if it was 3 total for the whole group, meaning I could no longer pull off the above scenario.

Thanks for taking the time to post about your experience. Bummer they messed up your itinerary. Could you elaborate on the "assignment" to have them make a change? We got the email inviting us to be testers in August, but I didn't see anything in particular they wanted us to do.
