Magic bands faded???

Yeah, all of ours have done that as well. We did swim in them; sounds like it was the chlorine. I may or may not have already purchased some printed ones as a surprise for our November trip.... :rolleyes1

If you try ArmorAll, be sparing and do it well in advance of wearing them. If not, it will leave greasy spots on your clothes. (Plus IMO it smells like vomit, so I'd use something by Mothers or Meguiars instead).

Strange. I have a box of about 30 and not a one is faded. We do swim in ours some trips

Ours have done the same thing, but I made them look great again with just the tiniest bit of oil, I used baby oil, just a tiny tiny bit on the tip of my finger and rubbed it in. Worked great and the bands are like brand new!

All of ours from 2014 are fine. We did swim in them. Maybe a sunscreen problem? We only used spray on sunscreen.

I have a long chain of MB's dating back to testing time, and all mine look fine. Some of them have been in pools some not.
I bought a villain band recently and have noticed the graphics feel a bit tacky if you touch them a lot, but that's the only mild MB issue I've noticed

All of ours (standard ones) have done this. I think it's sunscreen. I clean them with a tooth brush and detergent. The "dustiness" then goes away, and they look brand new. The reason that I think it's sunscreen residue and not fading is that we have some that we didn't wear, but I had them in my purse at the parks. They look just fine. We keep ours in a dark closet at home, and I don't think they get enough sun exposure to really fade. The plastic could be deteriorating some though, but I still think it's sunscreen.

EDIT: BTW, we use zinc oxide based sunscreen cream, not sprays. It also leaves a little bit of a white residue on your clothes sometimes. I didn't swim in mine, but DS and DH did. All of ours look the same.

Last February my kids used their souvenir money to buy the plain magic bands, one bought red and one blue.

We are going back again and I took them out of a drawer where they sat the last year and they are all faded, almost dusty looking/feeling.

I rinsed them under water and when they are wet they look great but as soon as dried, they look faded again.

Is this normal and is there anything that can be done to make them look more vibrant again?

The magicbands are made of rubber and rubber will naturally "bloom" with temperature change and such. This process makes the band appear chalky or like it's dusted in baby powder. Simply wipe it clean with dish washing liquid and water, dry it, and then rub a little bit of olive oil or Hunter's boot polish onto the band and it will be good as new!

This thread began 1.5 years ago. MB2s are now the norm. Closing.
