To the dismembers that have recently been to the resorts/parks. We have magic bands and was going use them on our trip in April. Will the restaurants / stores still scan our bands or do we put a credit card on file on the app. Can you use your phone to pay for dining, etc in the park? We didn’t want to carry a credit card around

I can't comment on the recent occurrences, but I can tell you about several times we have encountered in the parks when Magic Bands didn't work. Thank goodness we had a credit card with us, or we would have been quite hungry.

We’ve been back a few times since the reopening and I suggest having a card on your person for backup. There have been times at Epcot while eating at the booths that the magic band didn’t work. Also once inside the RIV at the coffee station it didn’t work. Mobile ordering worked all the time though. We have not had any negative experience on Mobile ordering. Have a great trip!

You can charge back to your room reservation with the magic band.
You would add a credit card in the app if you mobile order.
You can also now purchase merchandise in the stores via the app as well instead of going to a register.
Pre/During/Post Covid it has been/is/will be a good idea to carry a credit card in case the magic band or the app are not working properly.

In January, I was able to use my MB easily to charge to my room. The only time I had a problem was in the Basin store at the GF.

I went in February, September, and November without any issues with my magic band. I never encountered a problem with mobile ordering either.

I second others who say you need a CC backup - my magic band has almost never worked (just ask me about the time we spent 2 hours trying to get into the park with the CM saying he could see our tickets when he scanned our band with his ipad, but the entry scanner wouldn't recognize them so he couldn't let us in) and I would also say each adult in your party needs one (on our last trip my magic band was working fine the first 2 days so I didn't take my own card with my to the park on the 3rd day, and OF COURSE that is when it stopped working). The app, however, worked like a charm for me on our last trip and I never had any trouble ordering or paying for food
