Magic Bands and Spit Stay

My family will be visiting WDW from August 9-19, and purchashed tickets ahead of time through Orbitz. We are staying off site from the 9th-16th, and on-site from 16th-19th. The on site stay was booked through a popular travel agent (if that matters), and we can request MagicBands online.

I've linked my tickets to MDE, but I'm confused as to how this will work...
-would I use the physical ticket cards for the off site portion of our stay, or would the Magic Bands work?
- under the FP+ rules that exist today, is it correct that I would be able to book FP in advance only for the 16-19, when we are on site

Anything else I need to know? TIA!

I think you could use your MBs for park entry, because they would direct back to your MDE information which includes the ticket info. However, you should probably take your tickets along with you as an insurance policy.

Start exploring your FP+ advance booking possibilities 60 days before arrival just to confirm that your window is 30 days prior. The policy could change.

If you can't pre-book your FP+ for the whole time you'll be there, be sure to arrive at the parks early to get your FP+ at the kiosks when there are still plenty of choices (on the days you don't have advance bookings). And if they don't have what you want, check back every half hour (or as often as is convenient to you) -- what's available changes constantly since people are constantly changing their FP+ reservations (and one person's canceled TSM FP could become your new TSM FP).

I thought that you could make the changes on your app once you have three loaded. So, do you really have to go back to the kiosk, or will the app allow you to make changes to ones that are cancelled?

If your tickets aren't linked to your MDE, you surely can't use the app to see or make changes to FP+ made at a kiosk with a ticket? So if you make a set of FP+ with unlinked tickets, you'd have to go back to the kiosk.

If you use your MB to make FP+ at a kiosk, then you can use the app to *see* the FP+ you made at the kiosks. However, we were unable to *change* our FP+ on the app because we had not linked tickets to the account. You can only make changes by tapping the band at the kiosk.

So my understanding is that you have to link tickets to your MDE to use the app to make changes (just as you have to link tickets to MDE to initially pre-book FP+ online).

Not being able to use the app to make changes while in the park is another reason to consider foregoing an extra set of FP+. You have a lot less control over what FP+ you get when you get multiple sets. Depends on your preferences and style of touring.
