"Magic Bands" aka "Tacky Bands"

Please search for the customization thread...my MB is painted Cinderella blue with a glitter topcoat and 50+ Swarovski rhinestones Super-Glued on (including on top of the RFID--no issues). You can make it look however you want with a little DIY elbow-grease.

Besides, if you're only going for one trip, you shouldn't complain. I'm an AP holder who makes at least 50 day trips/year. Oh, the horror of matching my MB with whatever outfit I pulled out of my closet to go to class in the morning in before a Disney trip!! :rotfl2:

I would LOVE to see this!! I searched but I couldn't find the thread you mentioned. Do you have a link or pictures you could share?? :cheer2:

For those that really don't want to wear the MBs, can't you just put them in a pocket or in a bag? You would have had to put a room key somewhere..and sure, the room key is a lot flatter but the MB easily fits in a pocket. Or wear it on a lanyard around your neck.

I haven't been on a trip with a Magic Band yet. However, I wouldn't consider it a fashion accessory. It's a necessary piece of equipment that has an important function. If it works properly and doesn't require me to waste time working out its issues, I don't really care what it looks like.

I was worried that the MB would irritate my wrist. But thank god it didn't, and after one day I didn't even noticed that I had MB on. I bought some of the accessories to bling it up.

It felt weird to take it off at the end of our trip, like something was missing! :rotfl:

Our family loves the bands, we actually stayed onsite just to get them because it is convenient and fun. The coolest part was that they sent one to our 1 year old so she gets to join in the fun. Only issue is why can I not either link a credit card or even add some money into an account linked to my band so I do not have to carry anything at the park (besides the kids)

You can link your credit card to your reservation and use your band in the parks for charging back to your room reservation. You always-ALWAYS- should carry some cash, a credit card (or debit, check, etc) and a photo ID with you while you are in the parks. Technical difficulties can occur without notice.

I don't understand why it is absurd. The rest of the year I would choose jewelry to coordinate my outfits. You can have an awesome Disney vacay and still care about your clothing and accessories.

I get lots of people consider it part of the Disney experience but I just have never liked wearing things like that. I didn't realize that made me an absurdity to be laughed at.

I thought we were going to have a choice of a card. Now, it seems that choice is gone.

No one is going to care if what the heck you're wearing matches your MB. They will be too busy having fun with their family and friends.

First world problems at their finest.

First world problems at their finest.

Until a lion at AK escapes its enclosure and goes on a killing spree, everything discussed on the DIS Boards is a first world problem.

I don't want to wear the band. I was hoping to use a card. I guess I'll just have to carry the band. I've had bands on my wrists for other things, and usually can't wait to get them off.

Maybe I'm just not thinking correctly but I haven't really taken into consideration whether they would work with my outfits.

Maye they should have a black band, black goes with everything.

If you're staying at the Disney resorts you can ask for a card. If you're not, you can use your ticket.

That was not my intent. I was just frustrated that I thought I would have the choice to avoid them. Some people just don't like certain things and I never liked the livestrong etc. bands at all even when they were at their most popular. I'm sorry for coming across that I think I am better than people who like the bands. That isn't what I intended. Most people at Disney look better than I do without even trying. I was pretty frustrated to hear the card option was off the table from a different thread.

From what it says on Disney's own website, the card is NOT off the table. You just have to ASK for one at the resort. They won't give it to you automatically anymore. If they deny you a card, ask for a manager. Tell them it says right on Disney's website that you can ask for a card. And you want a card. If you can't have one, tell the manager they need to take that off the website.

Does it really matter? If you don't like them, take them off for pictures or don't wear them.

Can you imagine the plastic-not-so-fantastic MB in the heat of summer. ICKO...... All slimy with perspiration.

I just read the first page, so other people may have reassured you of this, but you don't have to wear your MB. I'm not crazy about bracelets, and the MB rides up on my wrist to where it's kinda tight and then leaves an imprint, know what I mean? I always carry a wristlet in the parks with my ID and money, chapstick, etc, and I usually just loop my MB on the strap that I carry on my wrist. The CMs don't care when I hold it up to the FP+ scanner, no big deal at all.

I don't think that they look so bad but I worry that they will be hot when it's 95 degrees outside.

Wow. People here really need to learn to respect other people's opinions. Once again, a post about someone's valid opinion about what something looks like to her, followed by multiple posts bashing the op for daring to have a negative opinion about something at disney.

:thumbsup2

Which hotel? This isn't true according to the information posted on Disney's website.
"The MagicBand uses radio frequency (RF) technology and can be read by short and long-range readers located at the Walt Disney World Resort. If you prefer to use an RF card, which cannot be detected by long-range readers, you can request an RF card at your Disney Resort hotel"

I had read things like that in several places on the website. But nope. We're at ASMusic. I haven't met anyone here that has a card.

The one thing I like about them is that you can wear them swimming, although a guard at TL says they come off all the time in the wave pool (no wonder -- I lost the elastic holding the bun in my hair) I have yet to make it more than a few hours wearing it. I don't find it comfortable at all, and I often wear bracelets.

I haven't used the MB and comfort and fashion style never occurred to me. I am just thrilled that I will be able to glance at everyone in my parties arm to make sure they have their pass and not find out one is missing on the bus or monorail. I also won't have to search for my card when I get back to my room tired and with my arms full.
